OPERATING PRECAUTIONS
Thisisapropane,direct-fired,forcedairheater.It'sintendeduse
isprimarilytemporaryheatingofbuildingsunderconstruction,
alterationorrepair.
Propaneisheavierthanair.Ifpropaneleaksfromaconnection
orfitting,itsinkstothefloor,collectingtherewiththe
surroundingair,formingapotentiallyexplosivemixture.
Obviously,propaneleaksshouldbeavoided,sosetupthe
propanesupplywithutmostcare.ReadenclosedOdorFade
andPropaneSheetforadditionalinformationaboutdetecting
propaneleaks.Leakchecknewconnectionsorreconnecting
withasoapandwatersolutionandfollowallconnection
instructionsherein.Also,askyourpropanedealerforadviceon
thepropaneapplicationandsupplyinstallationandaskhimto
checkitifthereareanyquestions.
Thisheaterwasdesignedandcertifiedforuseasaconstruction
heaterinaccordancewithANSIZ83.7/CGA2.14.Checkwith
yourlocalfiresafetyauthorityifyouhaveanyquestionsabout
yourapplications.Otherstandardsgoverntheuseoffuelgases
andheatproducingproductsinspecificapplications.Yourlocal
authoritycanadviseyouaboutthese.
Direct-Firedmeansthatallofthecombustionproductsenter
theheatedspace.Eventhoughthisheateroperatesveryclose
to100percentcombustionefficiency,itstillproducessmall
amountsofcarbonmonoxide.Carbonmonoxide(calledCO)is
toxic.Wecantoleratesmallamountsbutnotalot.COcanbuild
upinaheatedspaceandfailuretoprovideadequateventilation
couldresultindeath.Thesymptomsofinadequateventilation
are:
•headache
•dizziness
•burningeyesandnose
•nausea
•drymouthorsorethroat
So,besuretofollowadviceaboutventilationintheseoperating
instructions.
ForcedAirmeansthatablowerorfanpushestheairthrough
theheater.Propercombustiondependsuponthisairflow;
therefore,theheatermustnotberevised,modifiedoroperated
withpartsremovedormissing.Likewise,safetysystemsmust
notbecircumventedormodifiedinordertooperatetheheater.
Whentheheateristobeoperatedinthepresenceofother
peopletheuserisresponsibleforproperlyacquaintingthose
presentwiththesafetyprecautionsandinstructions,andofthe
hazardsinvolved.
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
1. Checktheheaterthoroughlyfordamage.DONOToperatea
damagedheater.
2. DONOTmodifytheheateroroperateaheaterwhichhas
beenmodifiedfromitsoriginalcondition.
3. Useonlypropanegas.
4. UseonlyVAPORWITHDRAWALpropanesupply.Ifthere
isanyquestionaboutvaporwithdrawal,askyourpropane
dealer.
5. Mountthepropanecylindersvertically(shutoffvalveup).
Securethemfromfallingorbeingknockedoverandprotect
themfromdamage.
6. Locatepropanecontainersatleast(USA)7ft.(2.13m),
(Canada)10ft.(3m)fromtheheateranddo notdirect
exhausttowardcontainers.
7. IMPORTANTUseonlythehoseandregulatorassembly
providedwiththeheater.Matchthecolorstripeonthe
hang-tagattachedtothehoseassemblywiththecolor
onthelabellocatednearthepropaneinletfittingonthe
heater.Inspecthoseassemblybeforeeachuseoftheheater.
Ifthereisexcessiveabrasionorwear,orhoseiscut,replace
withhoseassemblylistedonpartslistbeforeusingheater.
8. Foreitherindoororoutdooruse.Adequateventilationmust
beprovided.Figure 1.(alsosee"OperatingPrecautions").
9. Ifatanytimegasodorisdetected,IMMEDIATELY
DISCONTINUEoperationuntilthesourceofgashasbeen
locatedandcorrected.ReadenclosedOdorfadeand
PropaneSheetforadditionalinformationaboutdetecting
propaneleaks.
10. Maintainminimumclearancefromnormalcombustible
material(likepaper).Figure 2.
11. Duetothehighsurfaceandexhausttemperatures,adults
andchildrenmustobserveclearancestoavoidburnsor
clothingignition.
12. Operateonlyonastable,levelsurface.
13. Donotusewithductwork.Donotrestrictinletorexit.
14. Useonlytheelectricalpowerspecified.Theelectrical
connectionandgroundingmustcomplywithNational
ElectricalCode-ANSI/NFPA70(USA)andCSAC22.1
CanadianElectricalCode,Part1(Canada).
15. Useonlyaproperlygrounded3-prongreceptacleor
extensioncord.
16. Donotmove,handleorservicewhilehotorburning.
17. Donotadjusttheheatercombustiontubeelevationwhile
heaterisrunningorhot.Adjustmentstoelevationshould
onlybemadeaftertheheaterhascooledtotouch.
18. Useonlyinaccordancewithlocalcodesor,intheabsenceof
localcodes,withtheStandardfortheStorageandHandling
ofLiquefiedPetroleumGasesANSI/NFPA58andCSA
