POSiPal - Handheld RF Terminal
Introduction
The POSiPal handheld radio frequency (RF) terminal provides a portable, wireless, on-line connection to your
Margin*Plus POS database. It allows for instant access and updating of many POS functions.
Features:

• Perform Price/Cost/Base GM changes
• Add items to a Promo
User Information
Using the Stylus The stylus is a pen-shaped pointing instrument, used to select items and enter
information. Tap the screen once to select an option or a field. Tap the screen twice in
quick succession ('double tap') to select an item from an alpha list.
Note: You should never use a regular pen or any other item in place of the stylus, as this
could damage the screen.
Using the Scanner To scan bar codes, make sure the scanner is enabled then aim the scanner at the bar
code. Press either the right, left or center scan trigger. Make sure that the red scan
beam covers the entire bar code. A green light and a beep will indicate a successful
scan.
Controlling the Contrast/Back light
The Function button (bottom right) allows you to adjust the contrast of the screen and
control the back light.
To adjust the contrast:
1. Press and hold the Function button (bottom right).
2. Press the 'up' scroll button at the top of the terminal to lighten the screen,
or the 'down' scroll button to darken the screen.
To turn the back light on or off:
1. Press and hold the Function button (bottom right).
2. Press any application button.
Resetting your POSiPal
A soft reset will restart the terminal, while saving all stored records and entries. To
perform a soft reset, hold down both the 'up' and 'down' scroll buttons (top right), then
press the App 4 button (located above the Function button).

Getting Started
Start/Stop the SQL Server on Margin*Plus
Before you can use your POSiPal with Margin*Plus, you must activate the software that
allows it to connect to your main server. Run F-43-36-20 Start SQL Server and select 1.
Start Server. At the 'Enter port number' prompt, enter the port that your POSiPal will be
connecting to.
Note: The system will default to the port you selected last time, which will be '12001' in
most cases.
You will have to restart the SQL Server each time you reboot your Margin*Plus server.
Power On/Off Press the red Power button to start the terminal. Once the unit initializes, the 'My Info'
screen will display. Using the stylus, tap anywhere on the screen to continue.
After approximately one minute of inactivity your POSiPal will time-out and power itself off.
Press the red Power button to turn it back on, then tap the screen to return to where you
left off.
Initializing the POSiPal Software
W hen you first turn on your POSiPal it will load the 'My Info' screen. Tap the screen with
the stylus to display a screen with the word 'Start' on the top left.
Tap 'Start' then select 'POSiPal' from the drop-down list. POSiPal will initialize, displaying
the 'POSiPal Startup' screen when complete.
Log On/Log Off/Shutdown
Log On: The 'POSiPal Startup' screen indicates that the unit has connected to the server but has
not yet been logged in. Tap the Logon button to access the 'POSiPal Logon' screen. Use
the stylus to enter your password, then tap the 'Enter' button.
Note: You will use the same password that you use at the cash register. Before a
password will work on your POSiPal it must be set up in Margin*Plus using 'E-21-11-1
Clerk Maintenance'.
Log Off: Tap the 'Exit' button until you get back to the 'POSiPal Main Menu'. Tap the 'Clerk Off'
button.
Shutdown: Tap the 'Exit' button until you get back to the 'POSiPal Startup' screen. Tap the 'Shut
Down' button. Tap the 'Exit Sure?' button to confirm that you want to perform a shutdown.

Commonly Used Buttons
The following buttons are used consistently throughout the POSiPal programs:
Enter After using the stylus to put data into an input window, press the 'Enter' button to select.
Exit Use this button to go back one screen or form (similar to the <F4> button in M*P).
Clear (Clr) This button will clear the data from the selected input window.
Delete (Del) When entering data into an input window, use this button as a 'backspace' to erase the character
before your cursor.
Help This button will provide some basic instruction for each screen or form.
Using the Alpha Keypad
Using the stylus, tap the keyboard icon on the bottom task bar to access the Alpha Keypad. Tap the letters one at
a time to enter alpha characters into an input prompt. Tap the keyboard icon again to hide the Alpha Keypad.
Selecting Items
Use any of the following methods to select an item:
Item Use the number keypad to enter an item number into the input window, then press the
'Item' button to select.
Description Use the alpha keypad to enter a description or portion of a description into the input
window, then press the 'Desc.' button to select.
Note: If your selection produces a list of items, double tap an item you want to select.
Scanner# Use the number keypad to enter a scanner # into the input window (using the same entry
method as in M*P) then press the 'Scan' button to select.
Bar code Scan Use the bar code scanner to scan the product.

Clerk Off Use this button to take your Clerk ID out of POSiPal and return to the 'Logon' screen.
Item Functions This button is not currently active.
Procedures Use this button to select the POSiPal Procedures Menu. The available procedures are:
Shelf Labels
Physical Inv. Count
Inventory Adjustments
Purchase Orders
Price Changes
Add To Promo
Options This button is not currently active.

POSiPal Procedures Menu
Procedures - Shelf Labels
Use this program to add items to the shelf label work file.
Enter an item at the input window using any of the techniques discussed on page 3. The item details will
be displayed. Use the stylus to modify any of the following fields, if necessary:
Label Price The system will default to the current retail price. You can modify the price that
you want to appear on the shelf label. Note that changing the price in the shelf
label work file does not permanently change the price in the Inventory Master File.
Qty This field will default to one label. Modify this field if you require more than one
shelf label for this item.
Type This will default to the current Label Type for this item. You can modify this field
by tapping the 'Down Arrow' at the right side of the input window.
If you change the Type you will see the following prompt:
Change Type to xxxx? Cancel Exit
Tap the 'Change Type...' button to permanently change the label type for this
item, or tap the 'Cancel' button if you don't want to change the label type.
Scanner# This will default to the scanner# that is currently at the top of the list in the Item
Master File. To select a different scanner# to print on the shelf label, tap the
'Down Arrow' at the right side of the input window. This will produce a list of the
scanner numbers available for this item. Use the stylus to select the scanner#
you want to use on the label.
Tap the 'Enter' button when complete, or 'Exit' to cancel this label.

Procedures - Physical Inv. Count
This program allows you to enter an inventory count, which can then be processed using M*P.
After entering the program, select the first item to count using any of the techniques discussed on page 3.
You will see this screen:
Choose whether or not you want to include pricing information in your count (this will usually be 'No').
The following screen will be displayed:

The fields which can be modified are as follows:
Bin Key in a Bin location, to identify where the item is located. This can be up to 6
alpha/numeric characters.
Note: The Bin number will be carried over to each additional item, until you
change it.
Price (optional) This field allows you to enter the retail price, if you chose to use Cost/Retail.
Otherwise it is display only.
Cost (optional) This field allows you to enter the cost, if you chose to yes Cost/Retail. Otherwise
it is display only.
Count Use this field to enter your counted quantity.
Tap 'Enter' when complete, or 'Exit' to cancel counting this item.
Continue counting all items. When you're done, follow the instructions in your Margin*Plus Advanced
Training Manual to update the count. You will not need to load the data, just begin by creating the work
file and carry on from there.
Procedures - Inventory Adjustments
Use this program to enter Inventory Adjustments.
Use one of the techniques discussed on page 3 to select the first item. You will see a screen like the
following:
Using the stylus, choose the Cost and Adjustment Type from the drop down windows. Tap 'Enter' when
complete.
Note: You will only be asked for the cost and adjustment type after the first item. Your selections
will be used for the remaining items, until you exit the program.

Once you have selected the cost and adjustment type to use, you will see a screen like the following:
Enter your count using one of the following methods:
Adjust Enter the +/- value you want to adjust by. The system will figure out the
New On Hand value.
New O/H Enter the New On Hand value. The system will figure out the Adjustment
quantity.
Tap the 'Enter' button when complete. The system will fill in which ever field you left blank. A small
window will appear asking you to confirm that the information is correct.

Procedures - Purchase Orders
This program can be used to create Purchase Order Tags, which can then be imported into the Margin*Plus
Purchase Order program (C-11-2 Purchase Order Maintenance) using the RF option.
Use one of the techniques discussed on page 3 to select the first item. You will be prompted to select an
existing P/O Tag or create a new one. This Tag will be used for all remaining items, until you exit the
program.
Use the stylus to select a Tag from the drop down window, or tap 'New' to create a new Tag.
If you select 'New', you will be prompted to enter the new Tag name. This can be up to six
alpha/numeric characters. Tap 'Enter' when complete.
Once you have chosen a Tag you will see a screen similar to the one below:
The 'On Hand' and 'On Order' windows are display only. Use the stylus to enter the quantity you want to
order. Tap 'Enter' when complete.
Xrec Tap this button to delete an item from the P/O Tag
Once all of the items have been added to the Tag, create a Purchase Order header using C-11-2
Purchase Order Maintenance. Select the RF option from the bottom of the screen then select the Tag you
want to import.

Procedures - Price Changes
This program can be used to make Cost, Retail and Base GM changes. The changes can be updated as you go,
or added to a 'Delayed Price Change' file, which can then be updated using B-8-11-2 Price Change Update in
Margin*Plus.
Use one of the techniques from page 3 to select the first item. This will produce the following screen:
Use the Stylus to select whether you want the Price Changes to be updated as you go, or whether you
want them to be saved in the Delayed Price Changes file. Once you've made your selection, tap 'Enter'.
You'll see a screen similar to the following:
Use the Stylus to change the Cost, Retail or Base GM% as required. As you make changes to the Cost
and Retail the new margin will appear in the 'Margin' field.

This program has some additional buttons, as follows:
Re-Calc Use this button to Re-Calculate the Cost, Retail or Base GM field, based on the values in
the other two fields. Enter the values you want in the other two fields, then clear the field
you wish to Calculate and tap the Re-Calc button.
Reset This button will set all fields back to their original values.
If you change the Retail price, POSiPal will automatically change the 'Label' field to 1. You can also select
a different Label Type or Scanner# for the shelf label if necessary.
When you are satisfied with the new values, tap the 'Enter' button. If you chose the 'Update Now' option
the new values will be applied to the item immediately. If you chose the 'Update Later' option the new
values will be added to the Delayed Price Changes file.
Use B-8-11-1 Price Change List to print the contents of the Delayed Price Changes file, then update using
B-8-11-2 Price Change Update.
