WORK AREA

PERSONAL SAFETY
CAUTION! Wear protective equipment approved by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) or American
National Standards Institute (ANSI) when using the tool.
1. Head Protection
a. Always wear impact safety goggles that provide front and side protection for the eyes.
b. Wear the appropriate rated dust mask or respirator.
c. Wear earplugs if the power tool or work environment is noisy.
d. Wear a full-face shield if your work creates metal filings or wood chips.
e. Wear a hard hat to protect your head from falling objects.
2. Gloves
a. The gloves should provide protection based on the work materials.
b. Wear suitable gloves to reduce the effects of vibration.
3. Protective Clothing
a. Wear protective clothing designed for the work environment and tool. Examples are electrical non-
conductive clothes or clothes treated to resist corrosive liquids or materials.
4. Foot Protection
a. Steel toe footwear or steel toe caps to prevent injury from falling objects.
b. Non-skid footwear is recommended to maintain footing and balance.
5. Control the tool, personal movement and the work environment to avoid personal injury or damage to tool.
Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use your common sense.
a. Keep articles of clothing, jewelry, hair, etc., away from moving parts to avoid entanglement with a tool.
b. Do not operate any machine/tool when tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medications.
c. Do not overreach when operating a tool. Proper footing and balance enables better control of a tool in
unexpected situations.
d. Use clamps or other practical ways to support or secure the workpiece to a stable platform. Holding the
workpiece by hand or against your body is not stable and may lead to loss of control and injury.

ELECTRICAL SAFETY
WARNING! To reduce risk of electric shock, be certain that it is connected to a properly grounded receptacle.
1. Disconnect tool from power source before cleaning, servicing, changing parts/ accessories or
when not in use.
2. Protect yourself against electric shocks when working on electrical equipment. Avoid body contact with
grounded surfaces such as pipes, radiators, cooking stoves and refrigerators. There is an increased chance
of electrical shock if your body is grounded.
3. Do not disconnect the power cord in place of using the ON/OFF switch on the tool. This will prevent an
accidental startup when the power cord is plugged into the power supply.
4. Do not alter any parts of the tool or accessories. All parts and accessories are designed with built-in safety
features that may be compromised if altered.
5. Make certain that power source conforms to requirements of your equipment.
6. When wiring an electrically driven device, follow all electrical and safety codes, as well as the most recent
Canadian Electrical Code (CE) and Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS).
7. This device is only for use on 120 V (single phase) and is equipped with a 3-prong grounded power supply
cord and plug.
8. DO NOT use this device with a 2-prong wall receptacle.
a. Choose an available 3-prong power outlet.
b. Replace 2 prong outlet with a grounded 3-prong receptacle, installed in accordance with the CE Code and
local codes and ordinances.
CAUTION! All wiring should be performed by a qualified electrician.
POLARIZED PLUG
Double insulated tools eliminate the need for a three wire grounded power cord and grounded power supply system.
Instead the tool is equipped with a polarized plug that requires a polarized outlet/power supply.
1. A polarized plug has two blades of different widths, allowing only one way to insert the plug into the outlet.
2. Reverse the plug if it does not fully fit into the outlet.
3. If the outlet does not accept a polarized plug, contact a qualified electrician to install a polarized outlet.
4. Do not alter the plug as that can compromise the built-in safety feature.

POWER CORD
1. Insert the power cord plug directly to the power supply whenever possible.
a. Use extension cords or surge protectors only when the tool’s power cord cannot reach a power supply
from the work area (see below).
2. Do not operate this tool if the power cord is frayed or damaged as an electric shock may occur, resulting in
personal injury/death or damage the tool.
a. Inspect the tool’s power cord for cracks, fraying or other faults in the insulation or plug before each use.
b. Discontinue use if a power cord feels more than comfortably warm while operating the tool.
c. Take the following steps if either of the above situations occur:
i. Tag or mark the tool as ‘defective’ or ‘out of service’ until repaired.
ii. Contact an electrician or qualified person to replace the power cord.
3. Prevent damage to the power cord by observing the following:
a. Never use the cord to carry the tool.
b. Do not pull the plug from an outlet by the cord.
c. Keep the power cord clear of the tool and the tool’s work path while in operation. The cord should always
stay behind the tool.
d. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts.
e. Do not allow people, mobile equipment or vehicles to pass over unprotected power cords.
i. Position power cords away from traffic areas.
ii. Place cords in reinforced conduits.
iii. Place planks on either side of the power cord to create a protective trench.
f. Do not wrap cord around tool as sharp edges may cut insulation or cause cracks if wound too tight.
Gently coil cord and either hang on a hook or fasten with a device to keep cord together when storing.

EXTENSION CORD
1. Never use an extension cord that doesn’t match or exceed the amperage rating of the tool. Using a cord that
is too long or an incorrect gauge could cause the following hazards:
a. Fire from overheating.
b. Electric shock from melting or damaging the cord’s insulation.
c. Underpowering the tool causing a functional failure, resulting in personal injury or damage the tool.
d. A cord that is too long may create a hazard to others moving within the work area.
2. Use the tool without an extension cord whenever possible. Only use an extension cord as a temporary means
of reaching the power supply. Also unroll the cord completely to prevent it from overheating and damaging
the electrical insulation.
3. When operating a power tool outside, use an outdoor extension cord marked 'W-A' or 'W'. These cords are
rated for outdoor use. Constructed of more durable materials, they can withstand temperature changes, UV
light (sunlight) and moisture, reducing the risk of electric shock.
4. Use in conjunction with a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI). If operating a power tool in a damp
location is unavoidable, the use of a GFCI reduces the risk of electric shock. It is recommended that the GFCI
should have a rated residual current of 30 mA or less.
LOW VOLTAGE
Low voltage may cause overheating due to higher power current being drawn to the tool that will shorten
the motor life.
An extension cord may cause a drop in power to the tool if too long or the amperage rating is not correct. This may
result in the following:
• The tool will not activate when switched on.
• The tool may switch on, but fails to maintain power when applied to a workpiece.
• The tool may overheat, possibly starting a fire.
Test the tool by plugging it directly to the power supply. If it powers on, change the extension cord with the correct
rating and as short as needed. The workpiece may also need to be relocated closer to the power supply.

ELECTRIC POWER TOOL PRECAUTIONS
WARNING! Immediately switch off the power tool if any of the following occurs:
• Malfunction of the plug, receptacle or damage to the power supply cord.
• The switch or trigger is broken.
• User sees or smells smoke.
• The user smells the odor of scorched insulation.
• A safety guard moves stiffly and/or doesn’t return to the safe position.
• The shear blades move in an unsafe way.
1. Ensure power supply matches the voltage of the tool’s motor (see Specifications).
2. Make sure the power switch is in the OFF position before connecting the tool to the power supply.
3. Do not place the tool down until the shear blades have stopped moving. The shear blades may catch the
surface of work material and wrench itself free, causing injury to the user or others in the work area.
4. Never use a tool with cracked or worn shear blades Change the shear blades before using.
5. Do not start the tool when the shear blades are touching the work piece.
6. Always use both hands when operating the tool, unless the tool is designed for single hand use.
7. Hold tool by insulated gripping surfaces when performing an operation where it may contact hidden wiring
or its own cord. Contact with a live wire will electrify exposed metal parts and shock the operator.
8. Before using the tool on a work piece, test the tool by running it at the highest no-load speed for at least
30 seconds in a safe position. Stop immediately if there is any abnormal vibration or wobbling that could
indicate poor installation of the shear blades. Check the tool to determine the cause.
9. Do not allow the tool’s motor to overload and/or overheat by taking work breaks.
10. When the tool is in operation, keep hands away from the shear blades and the area it is being applied to.
11. Do not use the tool on any material containing asbestos.
12. Do not touch the shear blades or the surface that has been cut with this tool immediately after use. The
surface will be hot and may cause an injury.
13. Do not allow persons who are not familiar with the tool or have not read these instructions to use the tool.

SHARP BLADE
WARNING! Do not let comfort or familiarity with the product gained from repeated use replace strict adherence
to safety rules. Using this tool unsafely or incorrectly can result in serious personal injury or death.
1. Keep hands away from the cutting area and the blade. Ensure that both hands and any power cords or other
objects are clear of the cutting path.
2. Ensure that the workpiece is properly supported to prevent body exposure, blade binding, or loss of control.
3. Hold the power tool by its insulated gripping surfaces when performing an operation where the cutting tool
may contact any electrical wiring.
a. Contact with a live wire will also cause exposed metal parts of the tool to become live and potentially
cause a shock to the operator.
4. Always use blades that are correctly sized and shaped for the arbor holes. Blades that do not match the tool’s
mounting hardware will run erratically, causing loss of control.
5. Do not use damaged or incorrect blade washers or bolts.
6. Do not use dull, dirty or damaged blades. To clean blades, remove the blade from the tool, clean it with gum
and pitch remover, hot water or kerosene.
a. Do not use gasoline to clean the blades.
7. Ensure that all blade adjustment levers are tight and secure before making any cuts.
8. ALWAYS hold the tool firmly with both hands, unless it is designed for single hand use. NEVER place your
hand or fingers in line with the blade.
9. Do not force the tool. This can cause uneven cutting, loss of accuracy and loss of control.
SPECIFIC SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
WARNING! People with pacemakers should consult with their physician(s) before using this product.
Operation of electrical equipment in close proximity to a heart pacemaker could cause interference or failure of
the pacemaker.
TOOL USE AND CARE
1. Use the correct tool for the job. Do not force a tool or attachment to do the work of a larger industrial tool.
Maximize tool performance and safety by using the tool for its intended task.
2. This tool was designed for a specific function. Do not modify or alter this tool or use it for an
unintended purpose.
3. Securely hold this tool using both hands, unless it is designed for single hand use. Using a tool with only
one hand can result in loss of control.
4. Maintain tools with care (see Maintenance).
5. Remove adjusting keys and wrenches from the tool before operation or connecting it to a power source. A
wrench or key that is left attached to a rotating part of the tool increases the risk of personal injury.
6. Avoid unintentional starts. Be sure that the ignition switch is in the neutral or OFF position when not in use
or before connecting it to any power source.
7. Do not carry the tool with fingers near or on the trigger/switch.

UNPACKING
1. Carefully remove the parts and accessories from the box. Retain packaging material until you have carefully
inspected and satisfactorily installed or operated the tool.
2. Make sure that all items in the parts list are included.
3. Inspect the parts carefully to make sure the tools and accessories were not damaged while shipping.
WARNING! Do not operate the tool if any part is missing. Replace the missing part before operating. Failure to
do so could result in a malfunction and serious personal injury.

OPERATION
WARNING! Do not operate this tool until you have read this entire manual. Follow all safety information,
warnings, cautions, and notes provided.
WARNING! The edge of sheet metal is very sharp. Always wear protective gloves when handling sheet metal.
CAUTION! Do not cut across a welded seam as this may damage the blades.
CAUTION! Do not obstruct the motor vents in the Cover (no. 48) during use. Obstructions may cause the motor to
overheat during use, possibly damaging the tool.
1. Plug the power cord into a circuit breaker protected 120V 60Hz power outlet.
2. To turn on the tool slide the power switch (38) forward to the ON position. The upper shear blade (12) will
begin to move up and down at high speed.
NOTE: It is a good idea to make a few practice cuts on scrap material before cutting your workpiece.
3. To cut material, fit the tool rest (1) over the edge of the material and slowly move the tool forward along the
desired cut line of the material.
NOTE: It is the movement of the upper shear blade against the lower shear blade that causes the material
to be cut.
4. To stop cutting, slide the power switch back to the OFF position.
5. Unplug the tool.

ADJUSTING THE CUTTING BLADES
If the tool is operating properly but not cutting satisfactorily, you may have to adjust the blades.
1. Turn off and unplug the tool before attempting any adjustment.
2. Use a small tool (less than 3 mm in diameter) to reach through the motor vents in the side of the cover
(no. 48) and adjust the fan.
3. Turn the fan (part of no. 30) until the cutting blades are open as far as possible.
NOTE: You can use an automotive feeler gauge (not included) to measure the gap between the blades.
4. To determine the best spacing, use this formula: Distance in mm=0.2 x thickness of steel plate in mm.
NOTE: For softer material, reduce the gap. For harder material, increase the gap.
5. Loosen the socket head screw that holds the upper shear blade in place.
6. Adjust the upper shear blade until the space between the upper and lower cutting edges is between
0.1 and 0.6 mm.
7. Tighten the socket head screw to fix the upper shear blade in position.
MAINTENANCE
1. Maintain the tool with care. A tool in good condition is efficient, easier to control and will prevent
unnecessary problems.
2. Keep the tool handles clean, dry and free from oil/grease at all times.
3. Follow instructions for lubricating and changing accessories.
4. Inspect the tool fittings periodically. Have damaged or worn components repaired or replaced by an
authorized technician.
5. Inspect the tool fittings, alignment and hoses and power supply cord and components periodically. Have
damaged or worn components repaired or replaced by an authorized technician.
6. Sharp tools are safer than dull tools. Applying excessive force while using a dull tool can lead to slips and
cause damage to your workpiece or personal injury.
7. Maintain the tool’s label and name plate. These carry important information. If unreadable or missing,
contact Princess Auto Ltd. for replacements.
CAUTION! Only qualified service personnel should repair the tool.
REMOVING AND REPLACING BLADES
1. Unplug the tool before attempting any maintenance.
2. Remove the screw and washer holding the upper shear blade and remove the upper shear blade.
3. Remove the screw and washer holding the lower shear blade and remove the lower shear blade.
4. To reinstall new or sharpened blades, reinstall the lower shear blade first and tighten it so that it
does not move.
5. Reinstall the upper shear blade and leave it just loose enough to slide.

ADJUSTING THE UPPER SHEAR BLADE
1. The upper shear blade (no. 12) has adjusting screws (no. 8) and screws (no. 6) that are used to adjust the
blade’s position. Loosen the screw with a wrench.
2. Loosen and hold the lock nut (no. 7) with a box wrench (not included).
3. The adjusting screw can now be adjusted. The upper shear blade should be adjusted for different material
types and thicknesses.
4. Ensure that the blades will operate properly before use. The tool should always be tested on scrap material
before use on final work material.
5. When sharpening the blades, maintain the original dimensions of a 12° angle on the upper shear blade with
an 8° angle across its thickness.
6. When sharpening the blades, maintain a 4° angle on the butt of the lower shear blade.
NOTE: When working with sheet steel, the formula for adjusting the upper shear blade is Gap = steel thickness
divided by 5.
NOTE: The gap should be slightly smaller for rubbery or soft materials and slightly larger for hard materials.
REPLACING CARBON BRUSHES
After extended use, your electric metal shear may not run as smoothly. If it starts or runs slowly, makes a grinding
noise or will not run at all, the problem may be worn carbon brushes. To replace the carbon brushes:
1. Unplug the tool before beginning maintenance.
2. To examine the condition of the brushes, unscrew each brush cap and remove each brush.
NOTE: Record the position of each carbon brush as you remove it, so you can replace them in exactly the
same way. Carbon brushes wear into the armature. If they are replaced in a different orientation, they will have
to undergo additional wear before they will fit properly again.

3. When replacing a carbon brush, insert it into the brush holder carbon end first, with the spring end
to the outside.
4. Replace the brush cap and tighten it by turning it clockwise.
NOTE: When replacing carbon brushes, always replace both brushes at the same time.
5. After replacing the carbon brushes, let the tool run for 2 minutes before use. This will allow the carbon
brushes to wear into the armature.

LUBRICATION
Only use the lubricants supplied with the tool or specified by the manufacturer. Other lubricants may not be suitable
and may damage the tool or cause a malfunction during use.
1. Plug in the tool, turn it on and let it run freely for one minute.
2. After the tool has run for one minute, turn it off and put 3-4 drops of light machine oil in the oil port on the
head of the tool (See image below).
3. Also apply a small amount of oil to the space between the arbor and the shaft sleeve.
CAUTION! NEVER use a penetrating oil to lubricate the tool. Penetrating oil may act as a solvent that will break
down the grease and cause the tool to seize up.
STORAGE
When not in use for an extended period, apply a thin coat of lubricant to the steel parts to avoid rust. Remove the
lubricant before using the tool again.
DISPOSING OF TOOL
If your tool has become damaged beyond repair, do not throw it out. Bring it to the appropriate recycling facility.
TROUBLE SHOOTING
If the tool does not function properly or if it is missing parts, contact Princess Auto Ltd. for a solution. If unable to
do so, have a qualified technician service the tool.

c. Portez des bouchons d’oreilles si l’outil électrique ou l’environnement de travail est bruyant.
d. Portez un écran facial panoramique si votre travail produit des limailles ou des copeaux de bois.
e. Portez un casque de protection pour vous protéger de la chute d’objets.
2. Gants
a. Les gants doivent protéger en fonction des matériaux travaillés.
b. Portez des gants appropriés pour réduire les effets des vibrations.
3. Vêtements de protection
a. Portez des vêtements de protection conçus pour l’environnement de travail et pour l’outil.
Des exemples sont des vêtements en tissu non conducteur ou en tissu traité pour résister aux liquides
ou aux produits corrosifs.
4. Protection des pieds
a. Chaussures à embout d’acier ou à coquilles d’acier pour éviter les blessures dues à la chute d’objets.
b. Les chaussures antidérapantes sont recommandées pour maintenir la stabilité et l’équilibre.
5. Gardez le contrôle de l’outil, de vos mouvements et de l’environnement de travail pour éviter les blessures
ou le bris de l’outil. Restez alerte, portez attention à vos gestes et faites preuve de bon sens.
a. Tenez les vêtements, les bijoux, les cheveux, etc. à l’écart des pièces mobiles pour éviter de les faire
coincer par l’outil.
b. N’utilisez pas d’appareils ou d’outils si vous êtes fatigué ou sous l’effet de drogues,
d’alcool ou de médicaments.
c. N’utilisez pas l’outil si vous devez étirer les bras pour vous en servir. Une stabilité et un équilibre
appropriés sont nécessaires afin d’avoir un meilleur contrôle de l’outil en cas de situations inattendues.
d. Utilisez des brides ou autres moyens pratiques pour fixer la pièce à travailler sur une plate-forme
stable. Une pièce à travailler tenue dans les mains ou appuyée contre le corps n’est pas stable et risque
d’entraîner une perte de contrôle et des blessures.

SÉCURITÉ EN ÉLECTRICITÉ
AVERTISSEMENT ! Pour réduire les risques de choc électrique, assurez-vous que l’appareil est branché dans un
réceptacle correctement mis à la masse.
1. Déconnectez l’outil de la source d’alimentation avant le nettoyage, l’entretien, le remplacement de pièces ou
d’accessoires ou lorsqu’il n’est pas utilisé.
2. Protégez-vous contre les chocs électriques lorsque vous travaillez en présence d’équipement électrique.
Évitez le contact entre votre corps et les surfaces reliées à la terre comme les tuyaux, radiateurs, cuisinières
et réfrigérateurs. Il y a un risque plus élevé de choc électrique si votre corps est relié à la terre.
3. Ne débranchez pas le cordon d’alimentation au lieu d’utiliser l’interrupteur d’alimentation MARCHE/
ARRÊT sur l’outil. Ceci permet d’éviter une mise en marche involontaire lorsque vous branchez le cordon
d’alimentation dans la prise électrique.
4. Ne modifiez aucune partie de l’outil ou des accessoires. Toutes les pièces et tous les accessoires sont
conçus avec des dispositifs de sécurité intégrés qui seront compromis s’ils sont modifiés.
5. Assurez-vous que la source d’alimentation est conforme aux exigences de votre équipement.
6. Au moment de câbler un appareil électrique, respectez tous les codes en matière d’électricité et de sécurité,
ainsi que les versions les plus récentes du Code canadien de l’électricité (CE) et du code du Centre canadien
d’hygiène et de sécurité au travail (CCHST).
7. Cet appareil ne doit être utilisé qu’avec un courant monophasé de 120 V et est muni d’un cordon
d’alimentation et d’une fiche à 3 broches.
8. N’utilisez PAS cet appareil avec une prise murale à 2 broches.
a. Choisissez une prise de courant libre à 3 broches.
b. Remplacez la prise à 2 broches par une prise à 3 broches mise à la masse, installée conformément au
Code de l’électricité, ainsi qu’aux ordonnances et aux codes locaux en vigueur.
ATTENTION ! Tout le câblage doit être installé par un électricien qualifié.
FICHE POLARISÉE
La double isolation des outils élimine le besoin d’un cordon d’alimentation à 3 fils mis à la terre et d’un système
d’alimentation mis à la terre. Au lieu de cela, l’outil est équipé d’une fiche polarisée qui doit être branchée sur une
prise électrique polarisée.
1. La fiche polarisée comporte 2 lames de largeurs différentes, ce qui ne permet l’insertion de la fiche dans la
prise que d’une seule façon.
2. Si la fiche ne s’insère pas complètement dans la prise, tournez-la.
3. Si la prise n’accepte pas la fiche polarisée, contactez un électricien qualifié pour faire installer
une prise polarisée.
4. Ne modifiez la fiche d’aucune façon car cela compromettrait les dispositifs de sécurité intégrés.

CORDON D’ALIMENTATION
1. Autant que possible, insérez la fiche du cordon d’alimentation directement dans la prise électrique.
a. N’utilisez des rallonges ou des limiteurs de surtension que lorsque le cordon d’alimentation de l’outil est
trop court pour atteindre la source d’alimentation depuis l’aire de travail (voyez ci-dessous).
2. N’utilisez pas cet outil si le cordon d’alimentation est effilé ou endommagé, car un choc électrique peut se
produire, ce qui pourrait causer des blessures, la mort ou des dommages à l’outil.
a. Avant chaque utilisation, inspectez le cordon d’alimentation de l’outil; vérifiez qu’il ne soit ni fissuré, ni
effiloché et que l’isolant et la fiche ne soient pas endommagés.
b. Arrêtez d’utiliser l’outil si le cordon d’alimentation est trop chaud au toucher.
c. Si une des situations décrites ci-dessus se produit, prenez les mesures suivantes :
i. Attachez sur l’outil une étiquette indiquant qu’il est défectueux ou ne fonctionne pas, jusqu’à ce
qu’il soit réparé.
ii. Contactez un électricien ou une personne qualifiée pour faire remplacer le cordon d’alimentation.
3. Pour éviter tout dommage au cordon d’alimentation, observez les précautions suivantes :
a. N’utilisez jamais le cordon d’alimentation pour transporter l’outil.
b. Ne tirez jamais sur le cordon d’alimentation pour enlever la fiche de la prise.
c. Maintenez le cordon d’alimentation à l’écart de l’outil et de la zone de travail de l’outil pendant son
utilisation. Le cordon doit toujours se trouver derrière l’outil.
d. Tenez le cordon à l’écart de la chaleur, de l’huile, des rebords coupants ou des pièces mobiles.
e. Veillez à ce que personne, ni aucun matériel mobile ou des véhicules n’écrasent les cordons
d’alimentation non protégés.
i. Disposez les cordons d’alimentation loin des zones de passage.
ii. Placez les cordons d’alimentation à l’intérieur de conduits renforcés.
iii. Placez des planches de chaque côté du cordon d’alimentation pour créer un couloir protecteur.
f. N’enroulez pas le cordon autour de l’outil car les bords tranchants risquent d’entailler l’isolant
ou des fissures peuvent se former sur le cordon s’il est enroulé trop serré. Enroulez délicatement
le cordon et suspendez-le à un crochet ou attachez-le sur un support pour qu’il reste enroulé
pendant son rangement.
