TheballastshouldbeconnectedtoanACmainssupplyintherange195‐265V.Inthecaseofasupply
undervoltagetheballastwillkeeprunningbutbelow165Vitwillreduceitsoutputpowerinorderto
keepthelamplit.Ifthesupplyreachesaround125Vtheballastwillswitchoff.Supplyover‐voltages
shouldbeavoidedastheycandamagetheballast.
TheGreen/YellowEarthwireinthemainscablemustbeconnectedtosupplyearthtoensureoperator
safety.
OutputConnectors
Theoutputconnectorsvarydependingontheindividualconfiguraon.Alabelplacedaboveeachoutput
connectorindicatesthetypeandpoweroflightfixtureitissuitablefor.Onlyonelampmaybeconnect‐
edatame.Theballastwillautomacallysensewhichsocketisinuseandsupplytheappropriatepow‐
er.(OnunitsforusewithLTMfixturestheremaybeapowerselectswitchonthefrontpanel.Theballast
willonlystartiftheswitchisinthecorrectposion.)
Start&Stop
Theballastcanbestartedusingthefrontpanelcontrols,thebuonsorswitchesonthelighthead,or
remotelyusingDMX.WhenusingARRIfixturestheballastcanbestoppedandstartedfromthehead
usingtherockerswitch.Forsafetyiftheballastispoweredupwiththerockerswitchclosedtheheadwill
notstartunltheStartbuonispressedortherockerswitchisopenedandre‐closed.
AutoStart
Theballastcanbesettostartassoonaspowerisappliedbypunginto‘AutoMode’.Todothishold
theModebuonfor5secondsunlthe‘Auto’LEDlightsupatthecornerofthedisplay.Repeatthe
processtotaketheballastoutofAutoMode.Theautomodesengisrememberedatpower‐off.
DMX
TheDMXacveLEDwillilluminatewhenaDMXsignalisdetected.TheStartandDimmerbuonswill
notfunconinDMXmode.TheDMXbasechannelisindicatedonthedisplayandthischannelcontrols
dimming.ThenextchannelupcontrolsballastON/OFF—sengavalueabove50%switchestheballast
on.TochangeDMXchannelholddowntheStopbuonandadjustusingtheUpandDownbuons.

Theballastoffers4outputfrequencysengs.3ofthesemodesofferflicker‐freelight,and‘Silent’isa
low‐noisesengbutthelightoutputisnotflicker‐freeandthecamerashouldbesetupaccordingly.
Duringnormaloperaontherecanbeadegreeofmovementinthearcofthelampwhichcanbepicked
upbythecamera.Selecngahigheroperangfrequencycanreducetheamountofarcmovement.
Thehighestfrequencymodeavailableontheballastisthe1000Hzmodewhichcanbehelpfulinprovid‐
ingthemoststablearcforHighSpeedFilming.Howeverthereisthepossibilitywiththismodethat
‘acouscresonance’inthelampcausessignificantinstabilityandsomemanualtuningoftherunning
frequencymayberequired.TodothisholddowntheStartbuonandusetheUpandDownbuonsto
adjustthefrequencywhilstlookingforthemoststablelightoutput.Theoperangfrequencycanbe
adjustedintherange900‐1100Hz.Thismodeisonlyavailableon9kWlampsorlowerinpower.
AutoScan
In1000Hzmodetheballastcanautomacallytunetheoperangfrequencyratherthanusingmanual
tuningasabove.Togetthebestresultswithautomactuningthelampshouldbeuptofulloperang
temperature(runformorethan20minutes).HolddowntheStartbuonandthenpresstheFullbuon
for2seconds.Thedisplaywillchangetoarotangpaern,andyouwillheartheballastscanning
throughtheoperangfrequencyrange.Thefullscantakesabout100seconds.Attheendofthescan
periodtheballastmovestothefrequencywhichshowedthebeststability.Insomecasesasmallmanual
frequencyadjustmentmayberequired.ToabortthescanatanypointpressStartandFullfor2seconds.
VoltDropCompensaon
Theballastmeasuresthevoltdropinthecablebetweentheballastandthelightfixture.Thisallowsthe
powerlossinthecabletobecalculated.Theoutputpoweristhenincreasedbythisamountsothelamp
runningpowerremainsattheratedvaluenomaerwhatheadleadlengthisused.
