This manual has been prepared for the owner and operators of a Powermatic Model 64ATable
Saw. Its purpose, aside from machine operation, is to promote safety through the use of ac-
cepted correct operating and maintenance procedures. Completely read the safety and mainte-
nance instructions before operating or servicing the machine. To obtain maximum life and effi-
ciency from your table saw, and to aid in using the machine safely, read this manual thoroughly
and follow all instructions carefully.

As with all machines, there is a certain amount of hazard involved with the use of this table saw. Use the
machine with the respect and caution demanded where safety precautions are concerned. When normal
safety precautions are overlooked or ignored, personal injury to the operator can result.
Read, understand and follow the safety and operating instructions found in this manual. Know the limita-
tions and hazards associated with this table saw.
Electrical grounding. Make certain that the machine frame is electrically grounded and that a ground lead is
included in the incoming electrical service. In cases where a cord and plug are used, make certain that the
groundingplug connectstoa suitableground. Follow thegrounding procedureindicated in theNational Electri-
calCode.
Eye safety. Wear an approved safety shield, goggles, or glasses to protect eyes. (NOTE: Common eye-
glasses are not safety glasses.)
Personal protection. Beforeoperatingthe machine,remove tie,rings,watch andother jewelry androll up
sleevesabove theelbows. Remove allloose outerclothing andconfine longhair.Protective typefootwear
should be used. Where the noise exceeds the level of exposure allowed in Section 1910.95 of the OSHA
Regulations,use hearingprotective devices. Donot weargloves.
Guards. Keep the machine guards in place for every operation for which they can be used. If any guards are
removedfor maintenance,DO NOTOPERATE themachine untilthe guardsare reinstalled.
Work area. Keep the floor around the machine clean and free of scrap material, saw dust, oil and other liquids
to minimize the danger of tripping or slipping. Be sure the table is free of all scrap, foreign material and tools
before starting to cut. Make certain the work area is well lighted and that a proper exhaust system is used to
minimize dust. Powermatic recommends the use of anti-skid floor strips on the floor area where the operator
normallystands and thateach machine’swork area bemarked off. Provideadequate workspacearound the
machine.
Operator position. Maintain a balanced stance and keep your body under control at all times. Do not stand
in line with the saw blade or work piece and do not allow anyone else to do so. Never climb on or near the saw.
Do not overreach. Use a support table or have a helper or “tailman” take stock away from the back side of
theblade.
Housekeeping. Before turning on machine, remove all extra equipment such as keys, wrenches, scrap, and
cleaningrags away fromthe saw.
Careless acts. Givethe workyou aredoing yourundivided attention.Looking around,carrying ona conversa-
tion, and “horseplay” are careless acts that can result in serious injury.
Disconnect machine beforeperforming anyservice ormaintenance orwhen changingblades. Amachine
under repair should be RED TAGGED to show it should not be used until the maintenance is complete.
Alignment. Check the alignment of the splitter, fence and miter slot to the blade.Acaution decal is installed
oneach guard andsplitter toremind theoperator of thedangers ofmisalignment.
Maintain tools in top condition. Check the saw blade for cracks or missing teeth. Do not use a cracked or
dull blade or one with missing teeth or improper set. Make sure the blade is securely locked on the arbor.
Hand safety. Keep hands clear of the blade area. Do not reach past the blade to clear parts or scrap with the
sawblade running. Neversaw freehand. Avoidawkwardoperations andhand positionswhere asudden slip
could cause your hand to contact the blade.
Safety devices. Always use the splitter, blade guard, push stick and other safety devices for all operations
where they can be used. On operations such as dadoing or molding where the blade guard cannot be used,

use feather boards, fixtures and other safety devices and use extreme caution. Reinstall the splitter and blade
guardimmediately aftercompleting theoperation thatrequiredtheirremoval.
Saw blade rotation. Be sure the saw blade rotates clockwise when viewed from the motor side (left side) of
themachine.
Adjustments. Makeall adjustmentsto themachineand operationalsetup withthe poweroff. Never remove
theinsert with theblade running.
Material condition. Do not attempt to saw boards with loose knots or with nails or other foreign material, on
its surface. Do not attempt to saw twisted, warped, bowed or “in wind”stock unless one edge has been
jointedfor guidingpurposes priorto sawing.
Large stock. Do not attempt to saw long or wide boards unsupported where spring or weight could cause the
board to shift position.
Job completion. Iftheoperator leavesthe machineareafor anyreason, heshould turn “off”thepower tothe
table saw motor and wait until the saw blade comes to a complete stop before his departure. In addition, if the
operation is complete, he should clean the table saw and the work area. NEVER clean off the table saw with
power “on”and NEVER use the hands to clear sawdust and debris; use a brush.
Replacement parts. Use only Powermatic or factory authorized replacement parts and accessories; other-
wisethe table sawwarranty andguarantee isnull andvoid.
Misuse. Do not use this Powermatic table saw for other than its intended use. If used for other purposes,
Powermatic disclaims any real or implied warranty and holds itself harmless for any injury or damage which
may result from that use. Do not equip this table saw with a motor larger than five (5) horsepower at 3600
RPM. Doing so voids the warranty and Powermatic holds itself harmless from any injury which may result.
If you are not thoroughlyfamiliarwith theoperation ofTable Saws, obtain advice fromyour supervisor,instruc-
toror otherqualified person.
Drugs, alcohol, medication. Do not operate this machine while under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or any
medication.
Health hazards. Some dust created by power sanding, sawing, grinding, drilling and other construction
activities contains chemicals known to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm. Some ex-
amples of these chemicals are:
* Leadfromlead-based paint.
* Crystalline silica from bricks and cement and other masonry products.
* Arsenic and chromium from chemically-treated lumber.
Your risk from these exposures varies, depending on how often you do this type of work. To reduce your
exposuretothese chemicals,workin a well-ventilatedarea, and workwith approved safetyequipment, such
as those dust masks that are specifically designed to filter out microscopic particles.
Use proper extension cord: Make sure your extension cord is in good condition. When using an extension
cord,be suretouse oneheavy enoughto carrythe currentyourproduct willdraw. An undersizedcord will cause
a drop in line voltage resulting in loss of power and overheating. The table below shows the correct size to use
dependingon cordlength andnameplateampere rating. Ifin doubt,use thenext heaviergauge The smallerthe
gaugenumber,theheavier thecord.

Remove the saw and accessories from the shipping
carton and inspect for damage. Any damage should
bereported toyour distributorand shippingagent im-
mediately.

3. Do not remove wax coating from table until saw
is assembled.
4. Start assembly in the area where saw will be
used. This area should be clean and tidy in order to
makeit easy tofind anydropped fastenersand tools.
5. Unwraponlythehardware packagesthat oneis
workingon.
6. A mobile light should be used to illuminate ob-
scureareas.
7. The use of a socket wrench with ratchets and
extensions will greatly reduce assembly time.

Removetheprotective coatingfromthe sawtablesur-
facewith asoft clothmoistened witha goodcommer-
cialsolvent.
NOTE: Donot useacetone,gasoline, orlacquer thin-
ner to remove the protective coating, as it can dam-
age plastic parts and painted areas. Do not use an
abrasivepad onthe tabletop.
STAND ASSEMBLY
Tools required
12mm & 10mm wrenches
phillips screwdriver.
Note: Exceptfor therubber feet,only finger tighten
all nuts. Stand assembly nuts should be fully tight-
enedonlyafterthesawhasbeenattachedtothestand.
If you are using a mobile base, the stand should be
tightenedonlyafterplacingthesawinthemobilebase.
TIP: It may be easier to assemble stand in an up-
side-downposition. Illustrations areshownright side-
upforthe purpose ofclarity.
1. Assemble two leg sets using the long cross
braces attached to the inside of the legs. The lower
cross braces go into first set of square holes located
approximatelycenter ofeachleg. See Figure1. The
bottom holes on the legs do not apply to this ma-
chine. Use(32) 5/16-18x5/8 carriagebolts,(32) 5/16
hex nuts, and (32) 5/16 flat washers to assemble the
stand.
2. Attachthefour shortbraces toone setof legsas
shownin Figure 2.
3. Complete the stand assembly by attaching the
other set of legs as shown in Figure 2.
4. To attach rubber feet to each leg, first use a
Phillipsscrewdriverandscrew the1/4-20x1panhead
screw through the recessed hole of the rubber grom-
metas shownin figure3. Push thescrewthrough the
hole provided at the bottom of each leg, and tightly
fasten down with 1/4 flat washer and 1/4 nut.
5. Remember, leaveall otherstand assemblynuts
onlyfinger tight!

MOUNTING SAW TO STAND
Tools required
12mm wrench.
Tip: Remove all contents from box except saw and
one extension wing. Put some soft padding on floor
besidebox. Fold backcarton flapsandgently rollbox
upside down on topadding. Lift offbox, being care-
ful not to let extension wing fall.
1. Place table top upside down with its surface on
a flat floor, and place stand, with legs upside down,
atop the cabinet. See Figure 4.
2. Align the holes of stand with holes on bottom
flangeof saw baseand tightlysecurewith four5/16-
18x 1 hexhead screws,four 5/16hexnuts, four5/16
flatwashers,andfour 5/16springwashers. Thescrew
heads should be inside of the saw body (see inset,
Figure4).
3. Carefullyset themachine to itsupright position.
4. With the saw located at the place of operation,
(witha solidfoundation),spread thestandlegs toself-
align the machine. (If using an optional mobile base,
placethe machineonto thebase now). Whenallfour
legs are seated solidly on the floor (or base), tighten
down securely all nuts and screws in the stand as-
sembly.
NOTE: If the saw is to be used without the metal
stand provided, care must be taken to provide a hole
inthestand orbench utilized bythe operator tofacili-
tatethe removalof sawdust.
CAUTION: If there is any tendency to slide,
walk, or tip over during operation, the
stand or bench MUST be secured to the
floor.
ASSEMBLING HANDWHEELS
& LOCK KNOBS

1. Attach handwheel knob (A) by inserting screw
(B)through hollowknob andinto the3/8" locknut(C).
SeeFigure5. Lightlyscrewassemblyintohandwheel.
2. Tightenthenut (C)tothehandwheel justenough
sothat thereis adequatelooseness inthe knob(A) to
allowfree rotation.

3. Attachthe elevatingand tiltinghandwheels with
lock knobs to the elevating and tilting screws on the
machine,as showninFigure 5. Makesure theslot in
both handwheels engages with the roll pins in the el-
evatingand tiltingscrews.
MOUNTING THE MOTOR
Tools required

3mm and 4mm hex wrenches
WARNING: Make sure motor is
disconnected from power source while
assembling the saw.
1. Carefully set motor on its end with the pulley
sticking straight up, as shown in Figure 6.
2. Installtwo5/16-18 x1-3/4 carriageboltsthrough
theholes in thepulley coverseat. See Figure 7. Slip
a bushing over the bolt shafts and temporarily install
two 5/16 fiber washers, two 5/16 wing nuts, and two
E-ringsas shown.
3. Laythepulley coverseat onthe motorasshown
infigure 8.
4. Installmotorbase platewith four5/16-18x 1hex
head screws, four 5/16 flat washers, four 5/16 lock
washers,and four5/16 nuts,with thescrew headson
themotorside, asshownin Figure8. Slightlytighten
two of the nuts to temporarily secure components.
5. Assemble the motor base plate to the cast mo-
torbracket asshownin Figure9. Slip pinthroughand
secure with the hex head set screw.
IMPORTANT: Before mounting the motor assembly
to the saw, turn the trunnion handwheel so that the
saw blade is in the 90 degree vertical position (or the
saw's pointer is on the zero mark).

6. Install the motor assembly onto the protruding
studs at the back of the saw. See Figure 10.
7. Tighten down setscrews in top of cast motor
bracket with hex wrench as shown in Figure 10.
8. Use an assistant or get a support block (a 2 x 4
forexample) approximately21"to 22"long. Lift motor
up and position block under the motor to support its
weight.
9. Slightly loosen motor base screws.
10. Align pulleys using a straight edge as shown in
Figure11.NOTE: If apulleyneeds tobe adjustedon
the shaft, loosen the set screws, slide the pulley for-
ward or back as needed. Re-tighten set screws.
11. Mountthe drivebelt tothepulleys byraising mo-
toroff thesupport block. Withthe drivebelt mounted,
lower the motor back to rest on the support block.
12. Position pulley cover seat in line with pulleys,
but not so it will interfere with belt operation.
13. Adjust themotor allthe wayback onthe slotsof
the base, then move it all the way to the right. See
Figure12. Thiswillpreventthemotorfromrisingabove
thetable whentilted at45 degrees. Lockdown motor
base screws.
14. Removepulleycoverwingnutswithwashersand
install pulley cover, as shown in Figure 12, over the
bushing and carriage bolt. Replace the wing nut and
washers and tighten down the pulley cover so that it
fitssnugly over thepulley coverseat.
15. Removesupport block. Test forunhindered op-
erationof thebeltby turningthecomponents byhand.
Adjust as necessary.
MOUNTING BLADE GUARD &
SPLITTER
Tools required
12mm and 19mm wrenches

1. Disconnectsawfrompowersource.
2. Attachsplittermountingbracket tosaw trunnion
using pin, nut and washer as shown in Figure 13. In-
sertthe pininto thetrunnion holeuntil itis flushonthe
otherside,then hold awrench on theflat of thepin to
stabilizeit, whiletightening thenutcounterclockwise.
Theupperbracketissecuredto thelowerbracket with
four 5/16-18 x 1 screws, four 5/16 flat washers, and
four 5/16 hex nuts.

3. Loosentopscrews(A)on themounting bracket,
andthescrew (C)ontheinside splittermountingplate,
asshown inFigure 14. Theslottedlegs ofthe splitter
assembly will slide onto the screws. (You may need
to loosen set screws (B), Figure 13, to slide bracket
torequired positiononpin.)
TIP: Theslotted sectionof thesplitter maybedifficult
to position over the screw on the mounting plate (C).
Push the splitter guard toward the back of the saw
thenpushdown ontheguard,allowingthe slottedsec-
tiontoslideonto thescrewso thatthenut andwasher
compresstheguard's feet againstthe plate.
4. When splitter assembly is properly situated,
tighten screws (A), (B), and (C).
SAW BLADE INSTALLATION
Tools required
Arbor wrench
12mm wrench
12mm socket wrench with extension.
1. Disconnectmachinefrompowersource.
2. Raise the arbor to its highest point and remove
thearbornut,showninFigure 15,byturning nutcoun-
terclockwise.
3. Remove the flange and place saw blade on the
arbormaking surethe cuttingedge ofthe teethat the
top of the blade face toward the front of the saw, as
shownin Figure16.
4. Slidetheflangeonthe arborand startthe nuton
the threads. Snug the nut against the flange using
the wrench while holding saw blade with thumb and
fingertips.
5. Lowerthesaw bladeandwedgeablock ofwood
between the blade and the table to keep the blade
frommoving.Tightenthebladesecurelywiththe arbor
wrench.
6. See page 20 to align the splitter with the saw
blade.
CAUTION: Before operating the saw, the
splitter must be aligned with the blade to
help prevent kickback.

MOUNTING TABLE INSERT
Tools required
3mm hex wrench.
1. Place the table insert in the saw blade opening.
Witha straight edge,check tosee iftheinsert islevel
with the surface of the table. See Figure 17.
2. If the insert is not level, correct it by using the
straight edge and turning the four 1/4-20 x 5/16 set
screws in or out until the insert is flush with the table.

1. Have an assistant hold the wing in place while
thethree 7/16-14x 1-1/4screws areinserted withthe
7/16lock washers. Donottightenscrewscompletely.
(NOTE: Ifanassistant isnotavailable, holdthewing
inverticalpositionandinsertone7/16-14x1-1/4screw
and one 7/16 lock washer into the middle hole. See
Figure18. Fingertighten thisscrewto thesaw'stable,
then pivot the wing to horizontal position, and install
theothertwo screwsfinger tight.)
2. Thefrontedge ofextensionwingis themostcriti-
caland mustbe flushwith thefrontedgeofsaw table.
Ifnecessary,tapthe edgesof thewingwith ahammer
andblockofwood(orrubbermallet)untilthefrontedge
of wing lines up with edge of table.
4. Clamp a straight edge across both the exten-
sionandtable top. Level thesurface of thewing with
the table top, then tighten the middle screw.
5. Repeatstep4atthe frontand backof theexten-
sionwing. Tighten eachscrewas thatpartof thewing
comes flush with the table.
6. Repeatprocessforotherextensionwing.

INSTALLING DUST SHROUD
Tools Required
Small adjustable wrench
phillips screwdriver.
TIP: Sincethe dustshroudis installedfrom beneath,
aid from a helper to install the screws and tabs will
make this task much easier.
1. Fromunder thesaw, positionthedust shroudat
anangletogothroughthe openingbetweenthe stand
andthe saw. Set thelip ofthe shroud tosit onthe top
side of the stand as shown in Figure 19.
2. Attach two 3/16-24 x 5/8 pan head screws and
two 3/16 star washers to the tabs, and reaching in
from the motor side of the saw, push the screws
throughthe holesprovided inthe stand.
3. Attach two 3/16 nuts from the bottom side, and
with both tabs positioned over the lip of the shroud,
tightendown both screws.
INSTALLING SWITCH
NOTE: Theswitchcannot bemounteduntilthefence
and rails are mounted. Attach the switch under the
first screw from the left on the front rail. See Figure
20. The switch mounting bracket has a slot for ad-
justment.
The table saw is equipped with a push-button switch
with safety device, shown in Figure 20. When the
safety key is inserted into the start button, the button
cannotbe pushedin,thus preventingaccidentalstart-
ingof the saw. It is recommendedthat thesafety key
be placed on the machine whenever the machine is
not in use.

MITRE GAUGE ASSEMBLY
1. Mount the gauge body to the bar, making sure
the pins underneath the body fall in the holes in the
bar. See Figure 21.
2. Place the fiber washer on to the threaded rod,
andscrew on thehandle.
3. Slide the mitre gauge into the left hand slot on
the saw table.
MOTOR DISCONNECT PLUG
The motor is supplied with a special disconnecting
plugto facilitatemotor removalfor sawtransportation
convenience. Beforeconnectingor disconnectingthis
special plug, always make sure that the saw's main
cordis unplugged.
DADO INSERT
Dadoing is cutting a rabbet or a wide groove into the
workpiece. The dado insert, shown in Figure 22, is
includedas standard equipmentwith yoursaw.
CAUTION: Do not use the standard table
insert for dadoing operations.
GROUNDING INSTRUCTIONS
1. Allgrounded, cordconnected tools:
Intheeventofamalfunction orbreakdown,grounding
providesa pathofleast resistancefor electriccurrent
to reduce the risk of electric shock. This tool is
equipped with an electric cord having an equipment-
groundingconductor anda groundingplug. The plug
must be plugged into a matching outlet that is prop-
erly installed and grounded in accordance with all lo-
calcodes and ordinances.
Do not modify the plug provided - if it will not fit the
outlet, have the proper outlet installed by a qualified
electrician.
Improperconnectionof theequipment-groundingcon-
ductor can result in a risk of electric shock. The con-
ductor with insulation having an outer surface that is
greenwith orwithout yellowstripesis theequipment-
groundingconductor.
If repair or replacement of the electric cord or plug is
necessary, do not connect the equipment-grounding
conductorto a liveterminal.

temporary adapter should be used only until a prop-
erly grounded outlet can be installed by a qualified
electrician.* Thegreen-colored rigidear,lug,and the
like, extending from the adapter must be connected
to a permanent ground such as a properly grounded
outlet box.

the plug. No adapter is available or should be used
with this tool. If the tool must be reconnected for use
ona different typeof electriccircuit, thereconnection
should be made by qualified service personnel and
after reconnection, the tool should comply with all lo-

ADJUSTMENTS

BLADE ADJUSTMENT
1. Toraiseandlowerthesawblade,loosen thefront
lockknob (A)onthe elevatinghandwheelasshownin
Figure24.
2. Turnfronthandwheel(B)clockwise toraise saw
bladeand counterclockwisetolower sawblade.
3. Tighten lock knob when the desired height of
bladeis reached.
4. To tilt the saw blade to the left, loosen lock knob
(C)onthe tiltinghandwheelas showninFigure 24.
5. Turn handwheel (D) to tilt saw blade to desired
angle, as read on indicator scale on front of saw.
6. Tightenlockknob(C).
RESETTING THE POINTER
Tools Required
3mm hex wrench
Aftera longperiodof timethetilt pointeronthe frontof
the saw may require adjusting. If this is necessary,
dothe following:
1. Set the saw blade to cut a perfect 90 degrees.
2. Removethefront lockknobandraisehandwheel
(A & B, Figure 24) to make the pointer's set screw
accessible as shown in Figure 25.
3. Loosenthesetscrewandmovetheindicatorpoint
to "0" on the scale.
4. Locksetscrew andreinstall handwheelandlock
knob.

45 AND 90 DEGREE POSITIVE STOPS
Tools required
Adjustable wrench (or pliers)
Convenientaccess to theseadjustments willbe from
the back side of the saw.
1. Disconnectmachinefrompowersource.
2. Raise the saw blade to its maximum height.
3. Set the blade at 90 degrees to the table by turn-
ing the blade tilting handwheel clockwise as far as it
will go.
4. Place a square on the table and check to see
that the blade is at a 90 degree angle to the table.

the screw has been loosened, adjust to the proper
positionbyholding thestopscrew(D)withonewrench
while tightening the lock nut (C) with the other.
MITRE GAUGE ADJUSTMENT

Your mitregauge isequipped withindividually adjust-
able index stops at 90 degrees and 45 degrees right
andleft. Theindex stopscan be adjustedby tighten-
ing or loosening the three adjusting screws (A). See
Figure28.
To operate the mitre gauge, loosen lock handle (B)
and move the body of the miter gauge (C) to the de-
sired angle. The mitre gauge body is set to stop at 0
degrees and 45 degrees left or right. To move the
gaugebeyond these points,the stop link(D) mustbe
flippedout of theway.

TOCHECKANDADJUSTTHE90DEGREESETTING

1. Setthegaugeat 90degrees asshown inFigure

2. Placea metalsquare againstthe faceofthe mi-
tregauge and alongone edgeof themiter gauge slot
and check to see if edge of square fits flush with the
mitre gauge. See Figure 29.

ALIGNING SPLITTER TO BLADE
CAUTION: The splitter assembly must be
aligned with the saw blade to help
prevent kickback.
1. Lay a straight edge against the saw blade and
the splitter as shown in Figure 30.
2. If splitter and blade do not line up, loosen the
lowerscrews onthe splittermounting bracket(D)and
thelower screwson theinsidesplitter mountingplate
(E) as shown in Figure 31.
(NOTE: Thisadjustmentismoreeasily performedwith
the aid of a helper since the mounting plate screws
areadjustedfrom theunderside of thesaw. Asocket
wrench with extension may be necessary to loosen
the two screws).
3. Whenadjustment isfinished, tightenall screws.
CAUTION: Make sure the blade guard and
splitter are parallel with the table mitre
slots to prevent binding.
ALIGNING BLADE TO T-SLOT
1. If the blade is not aligned with the slot in the
table,loosenthe screwsonthetrunnionbrackets(#17
and#54- seepage35) andbumpthe tableasneeded
with a mallet.
2. Re-tightenscrewssecurelywhenfinished.
