PowerShield SAFEGUARD PSG750 User manual

1. INTRODUCTION
Thank you for choosing PowerShield. This PowerShield
SAFEGUARD UPS is designed to provide safe and reliable
usage with minimal maintenance. Before you start please
read this manual. It contains instructions relating to safety,
installation, operation, maintenance and warranty of this
UPS. Please keep this manual in a safe place for future
use.
2. SAFETY INSTRUCTION
This section contains important safety instructions that
should be followed during usage of Power Shield product.
Changes and modification to any this unit not expressly
approved by Power Shield will void the product warranty.
ATTENTION: Electrical Safety
Maintenance must be performed by qualified
personnel. Failure to do so could result in an electric
shock.
Replace battery only with Power Shield supplied
battery.
Although the product may be unplugged from mains,
hazardous voltage still may be present through the
battery.
High current through conductive materials could
cause severe burns.
Check that the input power cord, output receptacles
are in good condition.
In order to maintain compliance with the EMC
directive, output cords attached to the UPS should not
exceed 10 meters in length.
Total leakage current from connected equipment and
the UPS must not exceeded 3.5mA for a pluggable
A type UPS.
CAUTION: Battery Safety
When replacing the batteries, use the same number
and type of batteries. See www.powershield.com.au
Do not dispose of batteries in a fire. The battery may
explode. Do not open or mutilate the battery.
Released electrolyte is harmful to the skin and eyes.
A battery can present a risk of electric shock and high
short circuit current. The following precaution should
be observed before replacing batteries
This unit contains no serviceable components other
than battery. Repairing of the product must only be
performed by qualified service personnel.

3. PACKAGE CONTENTS
You should have received the following items inside of
package:
- PowerShield SAFEGUARD 750VA UPS
- PowerShield User’s Manual
- Communication / USB cable
- SAFEGUARD Veiwer CD monitoring software
Note: Before installation, please inspect the unit and make
sure that no damages have occurred during transit. If any
damage is found, please notify your dealer. Please keep
the shipping materials in the event the product must be
returned to a repair centre for service.
4. PRODUCT OVERVIEW
SAFEGUARD will protect your telephone system, PC and
other electronic devices from various power quality issues
including power loss. This UPS features three LED
indicators to display the status of UPS.

UPS & SURGE PROTECTION (x3) – These outlets
will provide power while mains power is present and
the UPS is “ON”. It will also provide power for a
limited time from the internal battery when the mains
fail.

FULL TIME SURGE PROTECTION (x3) – These
outlets do not provide any backup power when mains
fail. They do however provide continuous protection
against surges and the like and are perfect for
peripherals that do not need battery backup

5. GETTING STARTED
Placement
Avoid placing SAFEGUARD in
CONNECT EQUIPMENT & INITIAL STARTUP
CONNECTING MODEM/PHONE/NETWORK
Connect a single modem/phone/network line into surge
protected “ IN” connector on the back panel of the unit.
Connect from “OUT” connector to the computer with
telephone line cable.
CONNECTING USB COMMUNICATION CABLE
To allow for unattended OS shutdown, start up and status
montoring, connect the USB communication cable at one
end to the UPS and the other end to the PC.
COLD START FUNCTION
When the UPS is “OFF” and there is no utility power, it is still
possible to cold start the UPS to power the loads providing
your battery has sufficient charge.
WALL MOUNT of UPS
SAFEGUARD can be mounted to a wall surface. Use
template provided on your product box flaps as a template
to position the mounting fastener (not supplied).
Wall mount this product as follows:
1. Cut the template from your product box and hold the
cardboard template against the wall in the desired
location.
2. Use thumbtack or tape to secure the template against
the wall. Use pin to puncture the centre of each circle to
mark the wall.
3. Install the mounting fastener at marked location. Leave
the head of both fasteners 8mm out from the wall. The
fastener must be able to support 7.0kg.
4. Mounting the unit by positioning the keyhole slots over
the mounting fastener heads.
6. SOFTWARE INSTALLATION
1. Insert the SAFEGUARD Viewer CD into CD-ROM drive
and then follow the on-screen instructions. If there no
screen shows when inserting the CD after 1 minute,
please execute setup.exe for initiating installation
software.
2. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the software.
3. When your computer restarts, the monitoring software
will appear as an orange plug icon located in the system
tray, near the clock.
Plug the AC input cord into the
wall outlet. Turn on the UPS by
pressing the “ON/OFF” button
on the UPS. For the best
results, charge the battery for at
least 4 hours before initial use.
Once UPS is fully charged, you may now
proceed to connect equipment

Only devices that require battery backup
such as PCs should be plugged into
these outlets
FULL TIME SURGE PROTECTION (x3)
Devices like printers that do not require
battery backup should be plugged into
these outlets. These devices will be
protected against surges and spikes
CAUTION: NEVER connect a laser printer
or scanner to the “UPS & SURGE
PROTECTION” outlets. This may cause
damage to the unit.
7. STATUS INDICATOR AND BEEPER
SAFEGUARD provides status indicator through three
LEDs located at side of the product as well as audible
beep. The indications are shown below.
8. BATTERY REPLACEMENT
SAFEGUARD has user replaceable batteries. Please read
following warnings and instruction carefully before
proceeding with the battery replacement.
1) Remove watches, rings, or other metal objects.
2) Use tools with insulated handles.
3) Wear rubber gloves and boots.
4) Do not lay tools or metal parts on top of batteries.
5) Turn off UPS (Make sure all indicators are off)
6) Turn off mains (AC supply)
7) Disconnect AC input cord from the mains
1 TURN the unit over and Remove
the screws located on the bottom
of the UPS to open the battery
cover.
2 LIFT the battery out of its
compartment and disconnect first
the Red and then the Black wire
connecting it to the UPS. Replace
the same type of battery.
3 Slide the battery compartment
cover back to close the battery
housing.
9. TROUBLE SHOOTING
Check Power Shield FAQ web page or phone technical
support for an assistance with a problem that cannot be
resolved using the trouble shoot table below:

11.Warranty and Service
WARRANTY CONDITIONS
The standard warranty is two (2) years from the date of
purchase. Power Shield’s standard procedure is to
replace the original unit with a factory reconditioned unit.
Power Shield will ship the replacement unit once the
defective unit has been received by the service
department, or cross ship upon the receipt of a valid
credit card number. The customer pays for shipping the
unit to Power Shield. Power Shield pays ground freight
transportation costs to ship the replacement to the
customer within Australia capital cities metro areas only
WARRANTY CLAIMS
First please follow the troubleshooting procedure
described above. If you are unable to solve your
problem then please call 1300-305-393. You will be
required to provide the following details
The model number, serial number, and the date
purchase of the UPS. Be prepared to troubleshoot the
problem over the telephone with technical support. If
unsuccessful the technical support will issue a
Returned Material Authorization Number & Warranty
Procedure Document. Our technical support personnel
will also guide you through the process

Problem Probable Cause Solution
The UPS will not turn on. Battery is disconnected or utility power is
not available at the wall outlet. Connect the battery and ensure power is
available at the wall outlet. Ensure that
the UPS is turned on
Yellow LED is on, and 2 beeps
every 30 seconds. But mains are
normal.
UPS is not connected properly to the
mains. Connect the UPS according to the
installation guide.
Circuit breaker has tripped Reset circuit breaker on the UPS
UPS shutdown after a few
seconds and circuit breaker has
tripped.
UPS output is short-circuited, possibly
due to defective equipment. Disconnect your computer from the UPS
and then reset the breaker.
Inadequate runtime Battery is not fully charged. Charge the unit at least 4 hours.
Battery is near the end of useful life. As a battery ages, the amount of runtime
available will decrease. Replace battery.
