Safety notes for intrinsically safe
RF module
The intrinsically safe RF module ALI 4.621 EX must only
be connected with the intrinsically safe sensors

Only use 1.5 V AA MN 1500 batteries from Duracell.
Each individual battery is intrinsically safe. Batteries can
be changed within the explosive area. When handling
batteries with the explosive area, necessary precaution
must be taken to avoid short-circuiting the battery
terminals.
The intrinsically safe RF module does not require
maintenance.
The circuit parameters meet the intrinsic safety require-
ments Ex ib IIC.
The maximum cable length between the intrinsically safe
RF module and the sensor not exceed 1 m.
The installation and operation of the intrinsically safe
OPTALIGN smart system must be in accordance with
the European regulations (EN 60079-10-1:2009 ff) and
equipment safety law as well as the general recognised
rules of the technology and the operating manuals
ALI 9.123.X or DOC 12.200.X.
The most current regulations regarding servicing,
maintenance and testing, as they appear in ElexV § 13,
EN 60079-14 and EN 60079-17 must be observed. The
rules of the manufacturer as they appear in this manual
must also be observed.


1. Mounting the intrinsically safe RF module
Connect the cable ALI 4.505-0,2 to the intrinsically safe RF
module ALI 4.621 EX by inserting the cable plug into the four-pin
socket on the side of the module with a groove.
The intrinsically safe RF module passes alignment readings from
the intrinsically safe measurement sensor to the OPTALIGN
smart EX computer [and “ROTALIGN smart EX edition] internal
antenna. The module covers direct line of sight distances of up
to 10 m / 33’ depending on the prevailing environmental condi-
tions. Its electronic compartment complies with code IP65 (dust
tight and protected against water jets). The intrinsically safe RF
module is powered using 2 ‘AA’ size batteries. The operating time
for the batteries is 14 hours – based on an operating cycle of 50%
measurement, 50% standby.

Match the red dot on the plug to the groove on the socket to
ensure proper plug orientation.

Mount the intrinsically safe RF module on the support posts of the
bracket fixed on the shaft of the right machine (usually moveable
machine) as shown in the figure below. The module clamps on the
support posts. It is recommended to mount the RF module on to
the bracket frame.

2. Switch the intrinsically safe RF module on
After mounting the sensor on the support posts, connect the
module to the sensor by inserting the opposite end of the cable
into the 8-pin sensor socket, noting the keyway orientation.
Switch the intrinsically safe RF module on.
The operating time LEDs blink for 3 seconds. The module is now
ready for operation. When the instrinsically safe RF module is
switched on, it supplies power to the sensor. If no measurement
action is activated in the intrinsically safe computer, the power
supply to the sensor stops.

3. Establishing wireless communication between the
intrinsically safe sensor and com uter
a) After entering machine dimensions as described in the product
specific operating instructions, press m. The measurement
screen as shown below appears.
b) Press qto access the context menu so as to choose the desired
data transmission mode. Use f/gto highlight 'Sensor
selection'.
c) Press eto confirm selection. The selection screen appears.
Use f/gto highlight 'Scan'.

d) Press eto scan the neighbourhood for any intrinsically safe
RF modules.
e) After the scanning process is completed, any intrinsically safe
RFmodules detectedwill belisted. Use
f/gtohighlight the
connected intrinsically safe RF module.

f) Press eto confirm selection and proceed with measurement.
4. Changing data transmission mode from intrinsically safe RF
module to cable [only possible with ALI 3.600-2 EX and ALI
12.100 EX Sensors]
a) Repeat steps 3a) and 3b), then press eto confirm selection.
b) Use f/gto select 'Port1' for cable transmission.
c) Press eto confirm selection and proceed with measurement.
