ACQUAINTED
Before
usingyour
Presto®
TaterTwister™
electriccurlycutter,study
the
diagrambelow
(Fig.
A)
to
becomefamiliar
with
the
variousparts
ofthe
unit
and
read
the
instructions
carefully.
Before
initialuse,
and
aftereachsubsequentuse,wash
the
cuttingbowl
and
see-through
hopper
in
warm,sudsywater.
The
cuttingblade,which
is
permanently
attached
tothe
cuttingbowl(Fig.
B)is
very
sharp;
handle
withcare.Wipe
the
motorbasewith
a
damp
cloth
to
clean.Neverimmerse
the
motorbase
in
water
orany
otherliquid.

HOW TO USE
IMPORTANT:Alwaysmakesure
the
powerswitch
is OFF and the
cord
is
unpluggedbefore
you
assemble
or
disassemble
the
curlycutter.
1.
Attach
the
see-throughhopper
tothe
motorbase
by
positioning
the
lockingtabs
onthe
hopperinto
the
slots
onthe
motorbase(Fig.
C).
Rotate
the
hopperclockwiseuntil
it
locksintoplace(Fig.
D).

Prepare
a
vegetable
for
cutting.
The
vegetable
should
beat
least
as
wide
asthe
driveplatform,
but
no
largerthan
the
metalportion
ofthe
cutting
bowl.Largervegetables
maybecuttofitonthe
platform.
For
bestresults,trim
a
smallportion
off
oneendofthe
vegetable,
soyou
have
aflat
surface
to
attach
tothe
driveplatform(Fig.
E).
This will
help
assurethat
the
vegetablestays
firmlyon
the
driveplatformduringprocessing.Always
be
sure
the
powerswitch
isOFF
beforeinserting
or
removingfoodfrom
the
unit.
3.
Center
the
vegetable
onthe
driveplatform
(Fig.
F)and
push
the
vegetabledown
firmly
until
the
ribs
onthe
driveplatform
are
pushed
fully
into
the
vegetable.
4.
Position
the
cuttingbowlover
the
vegetable,
sothe
handles
onthe
bowl
are
alignedwith
the
handles
onthe
see-throughhopper(Fig.
G).
Push
the
bowldownslightly
until
the
centering
device
onthe
cuttingbowl(seeFig.
B,
page
3)
is
positioned
inthe
center
ofthe
vegetable.
Itis
very
importantthat
the
vegetable
is
centered
on
the
driveplatform
and
securelypositionedwith
the
centeringdeviceembedded
inthe
vegetable
before
the
unit
is
turned
ON.
CAUTION:
The
cuttingblade,which
is
per-
manently
attached
tothe
cuttingbowl,
is
sharp.
Handle
with
care.
5.Useone
hand
to
hold
the
cuttingbowl
in
place
and
turn
the
unit
ON
with
the
otherhand
by
slid-
ing
the
ON/OFF
switch
up.
Slowlypressdown
onthe
cuttingbowlhandles
to
begincutting
the
vegetable.
Once
the
handles
onthe
cuttingbowl
meet
the
handles
onthe
hopper (Fig.
H),
wait
a
few
seconds,
to
ensure
the
vegetable
is
fully
cut,
and
turn
the
unit
OFF.
6.
Remove
the
cuttingbowl
and
empty
outthe
curly
cut
food
and
prepare
for
eating
or
cooking.

pages
6 and7.
7.
Remove
the
portion
ofthe
vegetablewhich
is
remaining
on the
driveplatformbeforecutting
ad-
ditionalvegetables
and
cookwith
cut
vegetables.
(Occasionally
theendofthe
vegetable
maybe
stuck
tothe
centeringdevice
onthe
cuttingbowl.
If
this occurs,removebeforecuttingadditional
vegetables.)

this,take
a
potato
and
make
a
lengthwise
cut
from
the
center
of the
potato
to the
out-
sideedge(Fig.
I).
Thenposition
the
potato
onthe
drive
platform
andcut
with
the
curlycutter.

correctly,
you
will
get
potato
rings
shapedlike
the
letter
C.
Use
only
the
following
cleaned
foods
in
yourcurly
cutter:
Beets
(peeled),
cucumbers,
kohlrabi
(peeled),
onions
(peeled),potatoes(washed
or
peeled),sweet
potatoes
(washed
or
peeled),turnips(peeled),yellowsquash,zucchini
The
product
isnot
designed
tocut
tomatoes
or
cheese.
QUESTIONS
AND
ANSWERS
Sometimes
my
vegetables
won't
stay
on the
drive platform,
won't
cut
properly,
or
mush
rather than cut.
What
causes this?
Improperpositioning
may
result
inthe
vegetable coming
offthe
platform,thuspreventing
the
vegetable
from
being
cut
properly
andin
some
cases
evenmushing.
To
ensure
proper
cutting,
be
sure
to
followthese
steps.
1.
For
bestresults,trim
a
smallportion
offoneendofthe
vegetable
to
make
a flat
surface
to
attach
tothe
driveplatform.Thiswillhelpassurethat
the
vegetable
stays
firmlyonthe
driveplatformduringprocessing.
2.
Push
the
vegetabledown
firmly
onto
the
driveplatform,makingsure
the
vegetable
is
centered
onthe
platform.
3.
Whencuttingcurvedvegetables,such
as
zucchini,
cuta
portion
off
each
endof
the
vegetable(Fig.
J)
until
you
have
a
straightpiece
to
attach
to the
driveplat-
form.
Thiswillmake
it
easier
to
center
the
vegetable
onthe
driveplatform
and
position
the
centering deviceproperly.
4.
When
cutting
cucumbers,
always
place
thefirmestend
down
onto
the
drive
plat-
form;
this
is
usually
theend
withfewest
seeds.
Thiswillassurethat
the
cucumber
stays
firmlyonthe
driveplatformduring
processing.
5.Be
sure
the
centering device
is
embedded
inthe
vegetablebeforeturning
the
unit
ON.
6.
Hold
the
cuttingbowl
in
placewhileturning
the
unit
ON.
Curvedvegetablesshould
be
cutoffon
each
end
until
you
have
a
straightpiece
to
attach
tothe
driveplatform.

Sometimes when cutting vegetables, such
as
zucchini
and
onion,
my
curls break apart
while
they
are
being cut.
How can I
prevent
this?
Makesure
youare
using
fresh
andfirm
vegetables.Overripevegetables
may
tend
to
break
apartduringcutting.
Use
only
the
recommendedfoodslisted
on
page
5.
How
do I
process
vegetables whose diameter
is
greater than
the
cutting bowl?
Cutthe
vegetable intosmallerpiecesthat
will
fit
within
the
metalportion
ofthe
cuttingbowl.
The
pieces
of
vegetableshould
beat
least
as
wide
asthe
driveplatform
butno
largerthan
the
metalportion
ofthe
cuttingbowl.
The
piecesneed
notbe
round.Even
a
squarepiece
will
process
beautifully
as
long
asitis
centered
onthe
driveplatform.
CARE
AND
CLEANING
Be
sure
the
powerswitch
isOFFandthe
unit
is
unpluggedbeforeremoving
the
see-through
hopper
from
the
motorbase.
Beforeusing
forthefirst
time
and
after
eachuse,wash
the
cuttingbowl
and
see-through
hopper
in
warm,sudsywater.
The
cuttingblade,which
is
permanently
attached
tothe
cuttingbowl,
is
verysharp;handlewithcare.Wipe
the
motorbasewith
a
dampcloth
to
clean.Neverimmerse
the
motorbase
in
water
orany
otherliquid.
DEEP
FRYING
INSTRUCTIONS
1.
Followmanufacturer'sdirections
for
deep
frying.
2.
Pourrecommendedamount
ofoilor
shorteningintodeep
fryer
and
preheat.
3.
Beforedeep
frying,
removeexcessmoisture
from
food
by
blottingwith
toweling—
moist
foods causeexcessfoaming
and
spattering.
Donotadd
water
orwet
food
to
cooking
oil.Evensmallamounts
of
waterwillcause

spatter

occur.
