Stop the burglar in a few seconds
with a PROTECT Fog Cannon®
Thank you for buying this PROTECT Fog Cannon®. These instruc-
tions are intended for everyday users of the fog-protected
premises, and for the security supervisor with responsibility for
the entire alarm installation. Please read the following pages
carefully to ensure maximum security, satisfaction and product
lifetime.
PROTECT A/S is a wholly Danish-owned rm, with production
facilities in Aarhus – the second-largest city in Denmark. The
company is the world’s biggest manufacturer of Fog Cannon™
products for burglary protection, and distributes to more than
50 countries.
A Fog Cannon™ is intended to serve as a supplementary security
product for an alarm system. A Fog Cannon™is a generator
that uses a heating element to convert harmless liquid into a
thick, dry, white fog-like cloud. This fog has a disorienting ef-
fect – and you cannot steal what you cannot see... Security fog
protection helps prevent theft, vandalism and robbery.
NB! PROTECT Fog Cannon®products must only be installed
and serviced by a qualied alarm tter or electrician.

4 IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR USERS
Before use
Have you and/or others
been instructed in the
correct use of the alarm
system and fog protection
set-up? Before the alarm
tter leaves the premises,
all users should have re-
ceived instruction in how
the security fog system
works.
DON’T FORGET!
Have you or your alarm company remembered to inform the local
police and re service about your fog protection installation?
Make sure to inform your neighbours, if any, that you have installed
security fog protection.
Have you or your alarm company
remembered to place warning la-
bels on your windows and doors?
The yellow labels help prevent
break-ins, and provide valuable
information to cleaning staff and
others.
We recommend that you enter
into an annual service agree-
ment with your alarm company
that involves testing the Fog
Cannon™. See elsewhere in these
instructions.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR USERS 5
Operation
The Fog Cannon™ is primed whenever the alarm system is activated.
If you then enter the secured area, both alarm and Fog Cannon™will
be triggered.
When you disconnect alarm, the Fog Cannon™will be disconnected
automatically.
Depending on the installation
method and the Fog Cannon™
model, it may take up to 45
minutes for the unit to become
warm enough to generate fog. We
recommend that you keep your
Fog Cannon™products warmed
up at all times so they are ready
to generate fog as soon as the
alarm system is activated.
Every Fog Cannon™ is monitored by the alarm company from which it
was purchased (or the relevant subcontractor). The alarm company
can register activation of the Fog Cannon™, attempted vandalism
and errors.
An authorised alarm tter must be engaged to set the fogging time,
etc. and to replace the fog uid container (however, end users
themselves can replace the uid container in PROTECT QUMULUS®
models manufactured after 1 September 2014). The same as for
model Xtratus®.
Scan the codes with a smartphone to
check how to replace the uid container
in a QUMULUS® model manufactured
after 1 September 2014 or a Xtratus®.
QUMULUS®Xtratus®
PROTECT Xtratus®= 8 min.
PROTECT FOQUS™= 7 min.
PROTECT QUMULUS®= 8-10 min.
PROTECT 600i™= 10-15 min.
PROTECT 1100i™= 15-25 min.*
PROTECT 2200i™= 30-45 min.*
*We recommend that you keep
the power connected 24/7.

Cleaning and maintenance
Clean PROTECT Fog Cannon®products with a damp cloth without
any cleaning agents, chemicals or solvents.
If you did not air the premises within 1 hour of a Fog Cannon™
being activated, you should wipe down all horizontal surfaces with
a damp cloth without any cleaning agents, chemicals or solvents.
For additional details, see pages 10 and 11.
End users themselves can change the uid container in PROTECT
QUMULUS® models manufactured after 1 September 2014. The same
as for model Xtratus®. Fluid containers in all other models must
only be replaced by an authorised alarm tter. See the previous
section for details.

What the LEDs mean*
Low uid level: PROTECT Fog Cannon®units emit audible (short
‘beeps’) and visual signals (ashing yellow LED on the front panel)
when the uid level is low.
Overview of LED signals:
• The green LED ashes when the fog cannon is connected to
a power supply. The green LED lights constantly when the
Fog Cannon™ is hot enough and ready to generate fog
• As mentioned above, the yellow LED will ash in the event of low
uid level
• All LEDs are extinguished when the alarm is connected
• Red LED:
- One ash every 10 sec. means mains power outage**
- Three ashes every 10 sec. indicates a signal from a re alarm
system to the Fog Cannon™*
- Four ashes every 10 sec. means low battery charge**
- Constant ashing: Serious error that requires intervention from
the tter*
* Diodes for Xtratus®:
See manual page 21

8 IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR USERS

Warnings
Do not touch the nozzle, as it can become very hot and cause
burns. Never look directly into the nozzle.
Do not hang anything up immediately
in front of the Fog Cannon™.
We recommend that you maintain a
safety distance of at least 35 cm.
PROTECT Fog Cannon®units
are IP approved for indoor
use and must therefore not
be exposed to water and
moisture.
Spilled fog uid – in the form
of drips or splashes from
handling the uid and/or
installing the Fog Cannon™
– must be removed
immediately, otherwise it
may constitute a slipping
hazard.
The fog uid is a mixture of water and glycol; as such it must
not be ingested. Make sure to store the uid out of the reach of
children and pets. In the event that a large quantity of the uid is
ingested, contact a doctor without delay. In the event of contact
with the eyes, rinse immediately with clean water for at least 15
minutes. In the event of contact with the skin, wash thoroughly
with soap and rinse with clean water.
Make sure NEVER to connect the alarm system during working hours
while staff are present in the fog-protected rooms.
Min.35 cm.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR USERS 9

Instructions for preventing
unintentional activation
If the fog protection is activated unintentionally, contact the alarm
company’s control centre immediately. You should also inform the
police and re service without delay.
In order to prevent injury and/or damage to property, do not enter a
‘fogged’ area until visibility permits. Always air premises for at least
20 minutes after a Fog Cannon™has been activated. We recommend
airing premises within one hour of a Fog Cannon™having been
activated. See the section on cleaning and maintenance.
The applicable regulations concerning the installation of fog pro-
tection state that at least one verifying PIR sensor is to be installed
per fog cannon. Sensors of this kind ensure that the Fog Cannon™
only generates fog when both the alarm system and the verifying
sensor receive a signal. In this way, it is possible to trigger the
alarm without the Fog Cannon™ generating fog. It is only when
the verifying sensor registers movement in the room where the
Fog Cannon™ is tted that the
unit will start to generate fog.
The sensor (2) is a
‘conrmation’sensor
that is linked directly
to the Fog Cannon™.

10 IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR USERS

Instructions for intentional activation
In order to avoid interaction with a burglar – and to prevent the
risk of physical injury – NEVER enter a ‘fogged’ area until visibility
permits. If appropriate, wait until security personnel have checked
and secured the premises.
Always air premises for at least 20 minutes after a Fog Cannon™
has been activated. We recommend airing premises within one hour
of a Fog Cannon™ having been activated. See the section on clean-
ing and maintenance.
Interaction between fog protection
and re alarm systems
Fire alarms, automatic re-extinguishing systems (server rooms)
and ABDL systems based on sensors that are sensitive to the fog will
be triggered by activated fog protection.
ION and optical sensors are sensitive to the fog (90% of all installa-
tions). Thermal, ame and CO sensors are not.
The re service may be entitled to charge a call-out fee of up to
DKK 5,050 (Denmark, 2014) if an ABA system (re alarm system)
is activated by anything other than a re. However, this does not
apply if a passer-by reports the suspicion of a re on account of
activated fog protection.
When taking over the new fog protection system in places where
a re alarm system is tted, you should always require a full-scale
test to check interaction between all the systems.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR USERS 11

DON’T FORGET! Have you or your alarm company remembered to
inform the local police and re service about your fog protection
installation?
Annual service
PROTECT A/S recommends that you enter into a
service agreement with the alarm tter to make
sure that your fog protection system is checked
once a year.
The areas that such a service agreement should
cover are listed in the Fog Cannon™installation
manual.
The shelf life of fog uid in unopened packaging is ve years, and
two years from the date of installation.
End users themselves can change the uid container in PROTECT
QUMULUS® models sold after 1 September 2014 and the model
Xtratus®. Fluid containers in all other models must only be replaced
by an authorised alarm tter.
Power consumption
PROTECT Fog Cannon®units consume 5–10 W when the heating ele-
ment is not switched on. When the heating element is switched on,
they consume 60–80 W, which corresponds to the consumption of a
conventional light bulb.
Failure to comply with the guidelines laid down in these instruc-
tions will result in PROTECT A/S waiving all liability for any
consequences of same.
