Pyroclassic Fires PYROCLASSIC IV User manual

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
For PYROCLASSIC® IV
Your PYROCLASSIC® IV works in a different way than other fires.
We highly recommend that you read these instructions so that you will enjoy the unique
benefits of your Pyroclassic® IV.
PLEASE DO NOT USE THESE INSTRUCTIONS TO LIGHT YOUR FIRST FIRE, INSTEAD SAVE THESE
INSTRUCTIONS SOMEWHERE FOR YOUR FUTURE REFERENCE.
IMPORTANT NOTE
Pyroclassic® fires have been in production for over 25 years in New Zealand. Our experience,
along with other New Zealand manufacturers, is that most problems relating to obtaining
maximum efficiencies come from loading the fire with wet or damp firewood.
The Pyroclassic® IV has been recommended as suitable for use in Smoke Control Areas
when burning logs
We strongly suggest that you read the section regarding Firewood.

IMPORTANT
YOUR NEW FIRE NEEDS TO BE “RUN IN”
The first 2 or 3 fires in your new Pyroclassic® fire will not burn as hot
or as brightly as they will in the future as they are “curing” the ceramic
firebox, DO NOT ALLOW THE TEMPERATURES TO GET TOO
HIGH DURING THESE BURNS AS THIS CAN CAUSE HAIRLINE
CRACKS IN THE CERAMIC.
After the second firing slowly increase the temperatures until the
firebox is clean and has no soot deposits on it all the way to the back,
you can then run the fire as hard as you like –it’ll take it – temperatures
in the firebox of approximately 2000oC have been achieved under test
conditions

“Warning Note” in the alarm manufacturer’s instructions
“The Clean Air Act 1993 and Smoke Control Areas”
Under the Clean Air Act local authorities may declare the whole or part of the district of the authority
to be a smoke control area. It is an offence to emit smoke from a chimney of a building, from a furnace
or from any fixed boiler if located in a designated smoke control area. It is also an offence to acquire an
“unauthorised fuel” for use within a smoke control area unless it is used in an “exempt” appliance

5
(“exempted” from the controls which generally apply in the smoke control area ).
The Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs has powers under the act to authorise
smokeless fuels or exempt appliances for use in smoke control areas in England. In Scotland and Wales
this power rests with Ministers in the devolved administrations for those countries. Separate
legislation, the Clean Air ( Northern Ireland ) Order 1981, applies in Northern Ireland. Therefore it is a
requirement that fuels burnt or obtained for use in smoke control areas have been “authorised” in
Regulations and that appliances used to burn solid fuels in those areas (other than “authorised” fuels)
have been exempted by an Order made and signed by the Secretary of State or Minister in the
devolved administrations.
Further information on the requirements of the Clean Air Act can be found here:
http://smokecontrol.defra.gov.uk
Your local authority is responsible for implementing the Clean Air Act 1993 including designation and
supervision of smoke control areas and you can contact them for details of Clean Air act requirements.
