Description
LANtest is a handheld tool that allows network professionals to quickly and easily check the integrity of balanced twisted-pair cables and
connections in Ethernet networks. In one step LANtest checks: opens, shorts, reversed pairs, crossed and split pairs in balanced twisted
pair cables. Just put the switch in the On position, press the TEST button and LANtest automatically scans the pairs, looking for mistakes
and failures. The remote unit allows for an accurate verification of the connections in data networks.

Functionality
•It checks the nonconformity of cables, jacks, plugs and connections and detects: opens, shorts, crossed pairs, reversed pairs and split
pairs (to identify split pairs it requires a minimum cable length of 40 cm)
•It checks the integrity of the shielding
•The remote identifier allows a precise identification of the causes of anomalies
•Easy to read fault indicator (LED) and very rapid test
•Auto standby mode to reduce power consumption
Batteries
LANtest runs on 4 AAA alkaline batteries of 1.5 volts. The battery LED will light when it detects the condition of low batteries.
The use of LANtest with low batteries can affect the accuracy of tests. If LANtest is not used for over a month it’s better to remove the
batteries.
Recommendations
Do not connect LANtest to active circuits, the 2 units could be damaged. Radio frequency electromagnetic fields of high intensity can
cause erroneous readings. Do not open the two units or try to repair them in case of failures.
In case of malfunction, return the instrument to a local distributor by filling out the type of fault founded.

Test procedure
01. Put switch on the right side in the ON position to turn on
02. Connect one end of the cable under test to the RJ45 jack of main LANtest unit
03. Connect the other end of the cable to the RJ45 jack of Remote LANtest unit
04. Press TEST to run the test and display the results
05. The horizontal LEDs indicate the status of the integrity of the cables
Green-> Pairs or shield correct
Blinking green -> Pair or shield not correct
No light -> Open pair or unshielded cable
06. The vertical LEDs indicate link failures, and battery status
The faults detected ccould be:
−Shorts
−Opens
−Incorrect connections
−Reversed pairs
−Split pairs
07. To locate a fault on a specific pair, use the diagnostic feature of LANtest
08. Press and hold TEST for more than 2 seconds; LANtest scans of each pair and the shield, flashing each LED separately. If a fault pair is
found, the corresponding error status is indicated by flashing of red LED
Note: Once the tests is finished, snap the Remote unit on LANtest main unit. This configuration allows also to easily test patch cords.
