Important Safety Instructions and Battery Safety
CAUTION
To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and/or injury, always follow these basic safety
precautions when using your telephone equipment.
1. Read and understand all instructions.
2. Follow all warnings and instructions including those marked on the product.
3. Unplug this product from the wall telephone jack and power outlet before cleaning. Do not
use liquid cleaners or aerosol cleaners. Use damp cloth for cleaning.
4. Do not use the base station near water. For example, the station should not be in use near a
bathtub, wash bowl, kitchen sink, laundry tub, wet basement, or swimming pool.
5. Do not place this product on an unstable cart, stand, or table. The product may fall, causing
serious damage to the product.
6. Slots or openings in the cabinet and the back and bottom are provided for ventilation to
protect it from overheating. These openings must not be blocked or covered. The openings
should never be blocked by placing the product on a bed or other similar surface. This
product should never be placed near or over a radiator or heat register. This product should
not be placed in a built-in installation unless proper ventilation is provided.
7. This product should only be used with a 110 volt AC outlet. If you are not sure of the type of
power supply in your home, contact Qwest or your local power company.
8. Do not overload wall outlets and extension cords as this can lead to fire or electric shock.
9. Never push objects of any kind into this product through cabinet slots as they may touch
dangerous voltage points or short out parts that could lead to fire, electric shock, or injury.
Never spill liquid of any kind on this product.
10. To reduce the risk of electric shock or burns, do not disassemble this product. Take it to
qualified service personnel when service or repair work is required. Opening or removing
covers may expose you to dangerous voltages, electrical current, or other risks. Incorrect re-
assembly can cause electric shock when the appliance is subsequently used.
11. Unplug the base station from the wall outlet and refer servicing to qualified service personnel
under the following conditions:
a. If a liquid has been spilled onto the product.
b. If the product has been exposed to rain or water.
c. If the product does not operate normally when following the operating instructions.
d. Adjust only those controls that are covered by the operating instructions because
improper adjustment of other controls may result in damage and will often require
extensive work by qualified service personnel to restore the product to normal operation.
e. If the product has been dropped or cabinet has been damaged.
f. If the product exhibits a distinct change in performance.
12. Avoid using the telephone during an electrical storm. There may be a risk of electrical shock
from lightning.
13. Do not use the telephone to report a gas leak in the vicinity of the leak.
14. The antenna on the base station does not retract. To prevent injury, do not place the
telephone where persons can step, trip, or fall on the telephone.
15. Do not place metal objects on the antenna.
16. Do not stick foreign objects into any of the holes on the base station or cordless handset. You
could harm the speakers, ear pieces, microphones, or yourself.

18. Never touch non-insulated telephone wires or terminals unless the telephone line has been
disconnected at the network interface.
19. Use caution when installing or modifying telephone lines.
Battery Safety
To reduce the risk of fire, injury, electric shock, or property damage, and to properly dispose of
batteries, please read and understand the following instructions.
1. Use ONLY type AA Nickel-Metal Hydride (NiMH) rechargeable batteries in the cordless
handset and reserve battery compartment.
2. DO NOT use other rechargeable batteries or non-rechargeable batteries. The batteries could
short-circuit, and the battery shell may be damaged causing a hazardous condition.
Instruction labels are located in the handset and charging unit battery compartment.
3. Do not place the batteries in contact with water or fire.
4. Always follow basic safety precautions when using and disposing of batteries. Do not dispose
of the batteries in a fire; the cells may explode. Check with local codes for special disposal
instructions.
5. DO NOT USE ALKALINE, NICKEL CADMIUM, OR LITHIUM BATTERIES IN THE CORDLESS
HANDSET BATTERY CHARGER OR RESERVE BATTERY COMPARTMENT.
6. Periodically clean the charge contacts on both the charger and handset with a soft cloth
slightly dampened with water or mild hand soap.
7. DO NOT mix old and new batteries in this product.
8. Position positive (+) battery contact to match the instruction labels in the cordless handset
and spare battery compartment.
9. Use caution when handling batteries in order not to short the batteries with conducting
materials such as rings, bracelets, and keys. The batteries or conducting material may
overheat and cause burns or a fire.
10. Do not open or mutilate the batteries. Released electrolyte is corrosive and may cause
damage to the eyes or skin. The electrolyte may be toxic if swallowed.
11. THE BATTERIES HEAT UP WHILE CHARGING. THIS IS NORMAL AND IS NOT DANGEROUS.

Getting Started
Up to four cordless handsets may be used with your base station. The four handsets
include the one handset that comes with the base and up to three additional
handsets. The handset that comes with the base is pre-registered to work with the
base. You must register additional handsets so that they will also work with your
base. For instructions on registering additional handsets, see Chapter 7 on Page 31
of this Owner’s Manual.
Any combination of two handsets (or handset and base speakerphone) may be
engaged in calls at the same time. For example, Handset 2 and the base
speakerphone can talk to an outside caller while Handset 1 and Handset 4 talk on an

Caller ID
/Call Log
Caller ID and Call Waiting ID are optional subscription services provided by Qwest.
The system generates a Caller ID record for every incoming external call and ‘for
each Call Waiting call’ that includes Caller ID information.
Caller ID information is shown on the handset display. It shows the name and
number of the caller, and time and date of the call.
Note: If you do not subscribe to Caller ID with name, the name will not appear.
The Call Log feature stores information for incoming external calls. The Call Log
maintains a list of the last 50 calls received. Call Waiting calls are also included in
this list if you have subscribed to Call Waiting ID. Entries are viewed one at a time
and are always shown in reverse chronological order, that is the most recent call is
shown first and scrolling down in the Call Log will show the next most recent call.
Items Stored in the Call Log
Caller Name
The calling party name is displayed as received from the telephone company. If more
than 16 characters are received, only the first 16 are displayed.
Time and Date
The time and date are received as part of the Caller ID message and are stored in the
Call Log. If the information is not received as part of the message, 00:00A and 00/00
will be stored in the call log as the time and date.
