The CHG jack lets you connect an external AC or DC adapter to
operate the scanner. When you connect an adapter to the CHG jack,
the nternal batter es rema n connected and get recharged.
WARNING: Never use the CHG jack when non-chargeable batter es are
nstalled. If you try to recharge non-rechargeable batter es,
they could get very hot and m ght explode or leak ac d.
CHARGING NICKEL-CADMIUM BATTERIES
The scanner has a bu lt- n charg ng c rcu t that lets you recharge n ckel-
cadm um batter es wh le they are n the scanner.
To recharge the batter es wh le they are n the scanner, s mply connect
an AC or DC adapter nto the scanner's CHG jack (see "Us ng Standard AC
Power" or "Us ng Veh cle Battery Power").
Charg ng T ps
It takes about 10 to 18 hours to recharge batter es that are fully
d scharged. You can operate the scanner wh le recharg ng n ckel-cadm um
batter es, but the charg ng t me s lengthened.
N ckel-cadm um batter es last longer and del ver more power f you
regularly let them fully d scharge. To do th s, s mply use the scanner
unt l the low battery nd cator appears on the d splay. Then fully
charge the batter es.
IMPORTANT: Th s product s capable of us ng rechargeable n ckel-cadm um
batter es. At the end of the batter es' useful l fe, they
must be recycled or d sposed of properly. Contact your local,
county, or state hazardous waste management author t es for
nformat on on recycl ng or d sposal programs n your area.
Some opt ons that m ght be ava lable are: mun c pal curb-s de
collect on, drop-off boxes at reta lers, recycl ng collect on
centers, and ma l-back programs.
Us ng Standard AC Power
You can power your scanner from a standard AC outlet us ng an opt onal
AC adapter, such as Cat. No. 273-1665 (not suppl ed).
WARNING: Do not use an AC adapter's polar zed plug w th an extens on cord,
receptacle, or other outlet unless the blades can be fully
nserted to prevent blade exposure.
CAUTIONS: The recommended AC adapter suppl es 9 volts and del vers at
least 300 m ll amps. Also, ts center t p s set to negat ve
and ts plug properly f ts the scanner's PWR and CHR jack.
Us ng an adapter that does not meet these spec f cat ons could
damage the scanner or the adapter.
Be sure you connect the AC adapter to the scanner before you
connect t to a standard AC outlet. Then d sconnect the adapter
from the AC outlet before you d sconnect t from the scanner.
