Check display for signal strength. If a weak signal is indicated, try
moving the EMU-2™to a location in your home that is closer to the
electricity meter for a stronger signal.
Move EMU-2™away from electronic devices that may interfere with the
signal (eg. wireless routers, cordless phones).

1. POWER UP YOUR
EMU-2
™
The EMU-2™is powered by connecting the AC adapter
to the unit. Batteries may also be used as a source of
short term alternative power, but the batteries are not
intended to last more than a few days of continuous use.
If using battery power, ensure that only alkaline batteries
are used. Note that batteries do not recharge when the
unit is plugged in.
Start viewing real-time information on your
electricity use in two simple steps.
TIME & DATE
Current time and date. You may be required to
adjust for daylight savings time (see note under set
up step 2).
METER READING
Total accumulated electricity use in kilowatt hours
recorded by the electricity meter at your home. If you
are a net metering customer, the screen will show
how much energy you are sending to the grid.
CURRENT USAGE
Real-time electricity use information in kilowatts, and
dollars and cents (will adjust tier 1 or tier 2 based on
your usage). *
DAILY TOTALS
Electricity use and estimated cost *for the current
day and previous day in graphical and numerical
format.
2. WAIT FOR
EMU-2
™TO CONNECT TO
THE ELECTRICITY METER
Once powered up, the unit will attempt to connect to the
meter. The EMU-2™is ready to use once the Current Time
screen appears with the time and date displayed.
Note: If the time displayed is incorrect, go to device settings
by pressing both buttons at once (see the Online User
Guide for more information).

Electricity use and estimated cost information
for your current billing period. *
PREVIOUS TOTALS
Electricity use and estimated cost information
during your previous billing period. *
CURRENT PRICE
Current price of electricity per kilowatt hour (will
adjust to the residential inclining block rate
based your usage).*

Messages sent from BC Hydro to your device
communicating information relating to your
BC Hydro account.

Tip: The EMU-2™ has LED lights to signal high/medium/low energy usage in relation to a ‘baseline’ you
can set (please refer to the EMU-2™ Display Screens section of the Online User Guide for detailed
instructions at www.rainforestautomation.com/support/bch). Note that the LED lights and backlight only
work when the EMU-2™ is powered by the AC adapter, not batteries.
