1 Overview
This chapter describes the RCMS2902-2E1GE-BL, including the following sections:
Introduction
Features
Working modes
Ordering information
1.1 Introduction
The RCMS2902-2E1GE-BL is a modular device, providing a balanced E1 interface, an
Ethernet electrical interface, and a SFP optical interface. The RCMS2902-2E1GE-BL can be
inserted into RC001-1M/2M single-slot/dual-slot chassis or the RC002-4/16 chassis. It can
multiplex 2-way balanced E1 services and 1-way 100/1000 Mbit/s Ethernet service.
1.2 Features
The RCMS2902-2E1GE-BL provides the following features:
Provide a balanced E1 interface for transmitting 2-way E1 services and provide a Gigabit
Ethernet electrical interface for transmitting 100/1000 Mbit/s Ethernet services. At the
uplink fiber, the RCMS2902-2E1GE-BL can multiplex 2-way E1 services and 1-way
100/1000 Mbit/s Ethernet services.
Provide a SFP optical interface; support 100 Mbit/s and 1000 Mbit/s optical modules;
support setting to the 100 Mbit/s mode when the RCMS2902-2E1GE-BL is inserted with
a 1000 Mbit/s SFP optical module.
When the SFP optical interface is inserted with the 1000 Mbit/s SFP optical module, the
Ethernet electrical interface supports 100/1000 self-adaption. When the SFP optical
interface is inserted with the 100 Mbit/s SFP optical module or when the SFP optical
interface forcibly works in 100 Mbit/s mode when inserted with the 1000 Mbit/s SFP
optical module, the Ethernet electrical interface supports 100 Mbit/s.
The Ethernet interface supports self-adaption, complying with the IEEE 802.3 and IEEE
802.3u standards.
Support the NView NNM system.

Transmit network management information through overheads transmitted over the fiber,
realizing remote network management.
Support configuring Ethernet interface status through the NView NNM system.
Support configuring Ethernet rate limiting through the NView NNM system.
Support IEEE 802.3x-based flow control in full duplex mode and back-pressure flow
control in half-duplex mode.
Provide complete alarm indication.
Support remote power-off detection.
Support optical interfaceAutomatic Laser Shutdown (ALS).
Support failover from the local optical interface to GE electrical interface or from remote
GE electrical interface to local GE electrical interface.
The DIP switch supports local E1 tributary bidirectional loopback and remote E1
tributary internal loopback. The NView NNM system supports local E1 tributary
internal/external/bidirectional loopback and provides embedded Bit Error Rate Tester
(BERT) for detecting links at the line and user side, helping providing and maintaining
services.
Support upgrading the card software online.
1.3 Working modes
1.3.1 Classification of working modes
The RCMS2902-2E1GE-BL supports the master mode and slave mode.
Master mode: in this mode, the RCMS2902-2E1GE-BL is used as a local card only.
Slave mode: the slave mode is further divided into the local slave mode and remote slave
mode.
−Local slave mode: the working mode of the remote card when managing the remote
through the local card
−Remote slave mode: manage the remote card directly through the RC002 Element
Management System (EMS) where the remote card is.
1.3.2 Configuring working modes
The fourth switch of the DIP switch SW1 is used to adjust the working mode of the
RCMS2902-2E1GE-BL. ON represents the slave mode and OFF indicates the NView NNM
system automatically recognizing the working mode.
For example, if the RCMS2902-2E1GE-BL is inserted into the RC002-16 chassis at local or is
inserted at the RC001-1M single-slot chassis at remote, the RCMS2902-2E1GE-BL at local
works in master mode and the one at remote works in slave mode.
1.3.3 Viewing working modes
You can view the current working mode of the RCMS2902-2E1GE-BL through the Command
Line Interface (CLI) and RC002 EMS.
Use the show info command to view the current working mode of the RCMS2902-
2E1GE-BL through CLI.

You can use the 4th switch to configure the working mode of the RCMS2902-2E1GE-
BL. When the switch is ON, the RCMS2902-2E1GE-BL is forced to work in slave
mode. When the switch is OFF, the network management card or network
management module inserted into the chassis, such as the RC002, automatically
recognizes a working mode.
For example, if the RCMS2902-2E1GE-BL is inserted into the RC002-16 chassis at
local and is inserted at the RC001-1M single-slot chassis at remote, the RCMS2902-
2E1GE-BL at local works in master mode and the one at remote works in slave mode.
As shown in Table 4-1, you can configure E1 loopback test through the DIP switch on the
RCMS2902-2E1GE-BL.
When you configure E1 loopback test through the DIP switch, the local E1 loopback is a
bidirectional one and the remote E1 loopback is a unidirectional internal one. Figure 4-2 and
Figure 4-3 show the location and direction of the local bidirectional loopback and remote
unidirectional internal loopback.

4.3 Default settings on DIP switch
By default, the 8 switches of the SW1 are set to OFF.
By default, functions configured on the RCMS2902-2E1GE-BL are shown as below:
Optical interface ALS is disabled.
Failover is disabled.
The network management card or network management module automatically
recognizes the working mode.
BERT is disabled.
The working mode of the optical interface is automatically adapted based on the optical

5 Typical application
There are multiple module offices and wireless base stations in the transport network and
Ethernet. In these module offices and wireless base stations, you can use the RCMS2902-
2E1GE-BL to receive services from buildings and then transmit them to the transport network
and Ethernet network through fibers.
Figure 5-1 shows a typical networking application with the RCMS2902-2E1GE-BL.
At the remote, the RCMS2902-2E1GE-BL is inserted into the RC001-1M single-slot chassis
for aggregating 2-way balanced E1 services and 1000 Mbit/s Ethernet services.
At the local, the RCMS2902-2E1GE-BL is inserted into the RC002-16 chassis.
The RCMS2902-2E1GE-BL can be connected to the server for outputting Ethernet
services.
Together with the uplink card inserted into the RC002-16 chassis, the RCMS2902-
2E1GE-BL can transmit services to the SDH/MSTP network.
The RCMS2902-2E1GE-BL can use the NView NNM system of the RC002-16 chassis
to manage the device.
