3.2 General information on the safety of the machine
The AXEO single-disc spreader is designed and manufactured to the state-of-
the-art in technology and the generally accepted rules of engineering. Neverthe-
less, operation and maintenance of the machine may pose a risk to life and limb
of the operator or other persons, as well as causing damage to the machine or
other assets in the surrounding area.
Therefore, operate the spreader only
when it is in a proper and roadworthy condition,
in awareness of safety and dangers.
This means that you must be familiar with the content of this manual, the applica-
ble accident protection regulations and the generally accepted regulations for
safety, occupational health, and road traffic, and apply these rules as required.
3.3 Instructions for the operator
The operator is responsible for ensuring the intended use of the AXEO single-
disc spreader.
3.3.1 Personnel qualifications
Before starting work on or with the single-disc spreader, all persons who are in-
volved in operation, maintenance or repair must have read and understood this
manual, particularly the chapter on safety and warning notices for the corre-
sponding activities.
The machine may only be operated by trained personnel authorised by the
owner.
Personnel being educated/trained/instructed may only work on the machine
under the supervision of an experienced person.
Maintenance and repair work may only be performed by qualified and in-
structed personnel.
3.3.2 Instruction
Sales representatives, factory representatives or employees of our company will
instruct the operator in the use and maintenance of the single-disc spreader.
The owner must ensure that newly recruited operating and maintenance person-
nel are instructed to the same extent and with the same care with regard to the
operation and repair of the machine in compliance with this operating manual.

Safety3
8
3.3.3 Accident prevention
Safety and accident prevention regulations are governed by law in every country.
The machine owner is responsible for ensuring compliance with the legal regula-
tions in force in each country.
The following instructions must also be observed:
Never permit unsupervised operation of the single-disc spreader.
Do not ride on the single-disc spreader while it is working or being transported
(no passengers).
Do not use mechanical components of the single-disc spreader to climb onto
the machine.
Do not wear loose clothing. Do not wear work clothes with belts, loose threads
or other items that could snag.
Follow the manufacturer's directions when working with chemicals. It may be
necessary to wear personal protective equipment.
3.4 Information on operating safety
To avoid dangerous situations, the single-disc spreader must only be operated
when it is in a technically safe condition.
3.4.1 Lifting and moving the single-disc spreader
The spreader is delivered from the factory mounted on a pallet.
Only lift the spreader on the pallet by means of a suitable pallet truck or forklift
truck. Note the overall weight.
Never use the hopper or any other non-indicated attachment point to lift or
move the spreader.
3.4.2 Parking the single-disc spreader
Only park the spreader with the hopper empty and on a horizontal, firm sur-
face.
If the spreader is parked on its own (without tractor), fully open the metering
slider. The return spring is relieved, and any water in the hopper will drain out.

Safety

3.4.3 Filling the single-disc spreader
Never fill the spreader while the tractor engine is running. Prevent an uninten-
tional start of the tractor's engine by removing the ignition key.
Use auxiliary equipment (e.g. bucket loader, feed screw conveyor, silo) to fill
the hopper of the single-disc spreader.
Use a suitable platform when filling manually (e.g. filling with Bigpacks).
Fill the hopper no higher than the top edge. Never exceed the maximum pay-
load.
Only fill the hopper with the spreader hitched to the tractor.
3.4.4 Checks before start-up
Before the first and all subsequent operations, check the single-disc spreader to
make sure that it is safe to operate.
Is all safety equipment on the spreader installed and functional?
Are all fasteners and load-bearing connections tight and in good condition?
Are the spreading disc and spreading vanes and their fixings in good condi-
tion?
Are all catches securely fastened?
Is anyone standing in the danger area of the single-disc spreader?
Is the drive shaft cover in good condition?
Check the height. The distance between frame and ground must not be great-
er than 120 cm.

Safety3

3.4.5 Operation
If the single-disc spreader malfunctions, stop the machine immediately and
secure it. Have the fault repaired immediately by qualified technicians.
Never climb onto the spreader when it is running.
Operate the spreader only with the safety guard fitted in the hopper. The safe-
ty guard must not be removed during operation.
Only operate the spreader with the servicing cover closed.
Rotating machine components can cause serious injury. Make sure that body
parts or clothing never come close to rotating components.
If your single-disc spreader has a hydraulic metering control, close the meter-
ing slider completely before adjusting the spreading volume.
Do not deposit any parts (such as screws, nuts) into the spreader hopper.
Flying spreader material may cause serious injury (e.g. to the eyes). Make
sure that there are no persons within the spreader's working range.
If the wind speed becomes too high, you must stop spreading because the
specified spreading range cannot be guaranteed under such conditions.
Never climb onto the spreader or the tractor when under power lines.

Safety

3.5 Use of the spreading material
Incorrect selection or use of spreading material may cause serious injury or envi-
ronmental damage.
When selecting the spreading material, inform yourself about its effects on
persons, the environment, and the machine.
Follow the directions of the spreading material manufacturer exactly.
3.6 Hydraulic system
The hydraulic system is under high pressure.
Fluid escaping under high pressure can cause serious injuries and environmental
damage. The following instructions must be observed to prevent danger:
The maximum approved operating pressure must never be exceeded.
Depressurise the hydraulic system before any maintenance work . Switch off
the tractor's engine. Remove the ignition key to prevent the engine being
started again.
Always wear protective goggles and safety gloves when looking for leaks.
In the event of injuries involving hydraulic oil, you must consult a doctor im-
mediately since severe infections can result.
When connecting the hydraulic hoses to the tractor hydraulics, make sure
that the hydraulic systems are depressurised on both tractor and single-disc
spreader.
Connect the hydraulic hoses of the tractor to the hydraulics of the spreader
using only the specified connections.
Prevent any contamination of the hydraulic circuit. Only hang the couplings in
the brackets provided. Use the dust caps. Clean the connections before join-
ing them.
Check the hydraulic components and hydraulic hoses regularly for mechani-
cal defects, such as cuts, chafe marks, crushing, cracking, porous sections,
etc.
Even when stored correctly and under approved loads, hoses and hose cou-
plings are subject to a natural ageing process. This limits their storage and
service life.
The hoses may only be used for a maximum of 6 years. The storage time must
not exceed 2 years.
The date of manufacture of the hoses is stamped on the hose coupling in month
and year
Replace hydraulic hoses if damaged or aged.
Replacement hydraulic hoses must meet the technical requirements of the
equipment manufacturer. In particular, note the different maximum pressure
ratings of replacement hoses.

3.7 Service and maintenance
Service and maintenance work involves additional hazards that do not occur dur-
ing operation of the machine.
Take particular care when carrying out maintenance and repair work. Work
very carefully and with awareness of danger.
3.7.1 Qualifications of maintenance personnel
Welding and work on the electrical and hydraulic systems must be carried out
only by qualified technicians.
3.7.2 Wear-prone parts
Observe the maintenance and repair intervals specified in this operating man-
ual exactly.
Also observe the maintenance and repair intervals for third-party compo-
nents. See the supplier documentation for the relevant intervals.
We recommend that you have the condition of the single-disc spreader
checked after each season by your dealer, paying particular attention to its
guards, fixing components, hydraulic system, metering parts (such as meter-
ing slider and agitator), spreading vanes, and spreading disc.
Spare parts must at least comply with the technical standards specified by the
manufacturer. This is assured with genuine spare parts.RAUCH
Self-locking nuts are designed to be used only once. Always use new self-
locking nuts to fasten components (e.g. when replacing vanes, changing the
maintenance cover).
3.7.3 Maintenance and repair work
Always switch off the tractor engine before all cleaning, maintenance and re-
pair work and when troubleshooting. Wait until all rotating parts of the ma-
chine have stopped moving.
Make sure that no unauthorised person can start the single-disc spreader.
Remove the ignition key from the tractor.
Check that the tractor is correctly parked with the spreader. Park the spreader
with an empty hopper on level, firm ground and secure it to prevent it from
moving.
In addition, secure the raised spreader against falling (e.g. using a support
block) if you must carry out maintenance and repair work or inspection under-
neath it.
Depressurise the hydraulic system before all maintenance and repair work.
Disconnect the power supply before working on the electrical system.
Open the maintenance cover on the hopper only after the spreader has been
switched off.
Open the safety guard in the hopper only after the spreader has been
switched off.
If you must work while the PTO shaft is rotating, make sure that nobody is
near the PTO or the universal drive shaft.

Safety
13
3
Only remove blockages in the spreader hopper with the machine at a stand-
still, and never use your hands or feet. Only use a suitable tool. To prevent
blockages, always use the safety guard when filling the hopper.
Before cleaning the spreader with water, steam or other cleaning agents, cov-
er all components that must not get wet (e.g. bearings, electrical connec-
tions).
Regularly check nuts and screws for tight fit and tighten them, if necessary.
3.8 Safety in traffic
When travelling on public roads and tracks, the tractor with the attached single-
disc spreader must comply with the traffic regulations of the country in which it is
operating. The owner and driver are responsible for compliance with these regu-
lations.
3.8.1 Checks before driving
The pre-operational check is an important component of traffic safety. Before
every trip, check compliance with the operating conditions, traffic safety, and the
regulations of the country of operation.
Make sure that the permitted total weight is not exceeded. Note the permitted
axle load, permitted braking load, and the permitted tyre load.
Check the tyre pressures and the function of the tractor brake system.
Is the single-disc spreader mounted correctly?
Could spreading material be lost while travelling?
- Check the level of the spreading material in the hopper. The metering slid-
er must be closed.
- In addition, with single-acting hydraulic cylinders, shut the ball-cock to
prevent spreading material from flowing out of the hopper in the event of
leaks in the tractor's control valves.
- If necessary, switch off the electronic control unit.
Does the lighting and identification of the spreader comply with the national
regulations for use on public roads? Make sure that warning signs, reflectors,
and auxiliary lights are correctly placed.

Safety3
14
3.8.2 Road travel with the single-disc spreader
Handling, steering, and braking performance of the tractor are affected by the at-
tached spreader. For example, the high permissible load capacity will reduce the
weight on the tractor's front axle, and may affect its steering.
Be aware of the changed driving behaviour.
Make sure that you have sufficient vision when driving. If vision is restricted
(e.g. when reversing), another person is required to direct the driver.
Do not exceed the legal speed limit.
Avoid sudden turns when driving uphill or downhill or across a slope. Due to
the changed centre of gravity, there is a danger of overturning. Travel over
uneven, soft ground (e.g. entering a field, over road edges) with great care.
Arrest sideways movement of the lower link of the three-point linkage to pre-
vent the machine from swinging.
Passengers are prohibited on the spreader during transport and operation.
