Cable TV Installer: This reminder is provided to call your attention to Article 820-40
of the National Electrical Code (Section 54 of the Canadian Electrical Code, Part 1)
which provides guidelines for proper grounding and, in particular, specifies that the
cable ground shall be connected to the grounding system of the building as close to
the point of cable entry as practical.

adequate size and strength to prevent the TV from being accidentally tipped over,

7. Do not block any of the ventilation openings. Install in accordance with
the manufacturer’s instructions.
8. Do not install near any heat sources such as radiators, heat registers,
stoves, or other apparatus (including amplifiers) that produce heat.
9. Do not defeat the safety purpose of the polarized or grounding type
plug. A polarized plug has two blades with one wider than the other.
A grounding type plug has two blades and a third grounding prong.
The wide blade or third prong are provided for your safety. When the
provided plug does not fit into your outlet, consult an electrician for
replacement of the obsolete outlet.
10. Protect the power cord from being walked on or pinched, particularly
at plugs, convenience receptacles, and the point where they exit from
the apparatus.
11. Only use attachments/accessories specified by the
manufacturer.
12. Use only with a cart, stand, tripod, bracket, or table specified
by the manufacturer or sold with the apparatus. When a cart is used,
use caution when moving the cart/apparatus combination to avoid
injury from tip-over.
13. Unplug this apparatus during lightning storms or when unused for long
periods of time.
14. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel. Servicing is required
when the apparatus has been damaged in any way, such as if the
power-supply cord or plug is damaged, liquid has been spilled or
objects have fallen into the apparatus, or if the apparatus has been
exposed to rain or moisture, does not operate normally, or has been
dropped.

16. Damage Requiring Service - The appliance should be serviced by
qualified service personnel when:
A. The power supply cord or the plug has been damaged;
B. Objects have fallen or liquid has been spilled into the appliance;
C. The appliance has been exposed to rain;
D. The appliance does not appear to operate normally or exhibits a
marked change in performance;
E. The appliance has been dropped or the enclosure damaged.
17. Tilt/Stability - All televisions must comply with recommended
international global safety standards for tilt and stability proper ties of
its cabinet design.
• Do not compromise these design standards by applying excessive
pull force to the front, or top, of the cabinet, which could ultimately
overturn the product.
• Also, do not endanger yourself, or children, by placing electronic
equipment/toys on the top of the cabinet. Such items could
unsuspectingly fall from the top of the set and cause product damage
and/or personal injury.
18. Power Lines - An outdoor antenna should be located away from
power lines.
19. Outdoor Antenna Grounding - If an outside antenna is connected to
the receiver, be sure the antenna system is grounded so as to provide
some protection against voltage surges and built up static charges.
Section 810 of the National Electrical Code, ANSI/NFPA No. 70- 1984,
provides information with respect to proper grounding of the mast
and supporting structure, grounding of the lead-in wire to an antenna
discharge unit, size of grounding connectors, location of antenna-
discharge unit, connection to grounding electrodes, and requirements
for the grounding electrode. See Figure below.
20. Object and Liquid Entry - Care should be taken so that objects do not
fall and liquids are not spilled into the enclosure through openings.
21. Battery usage CAUTION - To prevent battery leakage that may result
in bodily injury, property damage, or damage to the unit:
• Install all batteries correctly, with + and - aligned as marked on the
unit.
• Do not mix batteries (old and new or carbon and alkaline, etc.).
• Remove batteries when the unit is not used for a long time.
22. Apparatus shall not be exposed to dripping or splashing and no

Protect Against Power Surges

Y Pb Pr (Component Video) Connection
IMPORTANT - If you aren’t receiving a picture with this connection, the problem might
be with your DVD player. If the DVD player is “progressive scan” DVD player, you need
to change the setting from progressive to interlace. The procedure for changing this on a
DVD player varies. Look for a button on the front of the DVD player (it might be called
resolution or display), or see if there is a switch on the back (it might be labeled “int/prog”
or something similar), or the item might be in the menu system of the DVD player. Consult
your DVD player owner’s manual for instructions.

Using the example of a DVD player:
1. If necessary, connect your cable and/or antenna as described on page 5.
2. Connect your Y Pb Pr component video cables.
ConnectthreevideocablesorspecialYPbPrcablestotheYPbPrjacksonthe
backof theTVandtotheYPbProutputsontheDVDplayer.YPbPrcablesare
coloredgreen,blueandred.JustmatchthecolorsonthecablestotheYPbPr
jacks.
3. Connect your audio cables.
Connecttheaudio(whiteandred)cablestotheAUDIORandL(COMPOSITE
INPUT)jacksonthebackof theTVandtotheaudiooutputjacksontheDVD
player.Justmatchthecolors.
Important - When using the Component video input (Y Pb Pr) jacks, use only
the Audio R/L jacks from the COMPOSITE INPUT for this connection.
Viewing the Picture from the Connected Device

Connecting the Device
Thisconnectionallowsyoutoconnectadevice,suchasavideogameconsole,thathasAudio/
Videojacks.Refertotheillustrationbelowwhichusesaudioandvideocables.
Using the example of a video game console:
1. Connect your cable and/or antenna as described on page 5.
2. Connect your video cable.
Videocablesareusuallyyellow.ConnecttheVideocabletotheVideojackonthesideof
theTVandthejackonthevideogameconsole.
3. Connect your audio cables.
Connecttheaudio(whiteandred)cablestotheRandLAudiojacksonthesideof theTV
andtotheaudiooutputjacksonthevideogameconsole.Justmatchthecolors.
4. (Optional) For models with an S-Video jack, you can use either the Video or the
S-Video connection. You cannot connect both at the same time because they share
the audio jacks.S-VideocablestintoaspecialshapedjackwhichislabeledS-Video.
ConnecttheS-Videocabletothejackonthesideof theTVandthejackonthevideogame
console.Connecttheaudiocables.

Plug in the TV and Turn It On
Plugtheendof thepowercordintoagroundedwalloutlet.Inserttheplugcompletelyinto
theoutlet.PressON•OFFontheremote,orpressPOWERontheTV’sfrontpanel.
Put Batteries in the Remote
• Removethebatterycompartmentcoverfromthebackof theremotebypushingdown
andslidingoff thecover.
• Insert2fresh“AA”batteries.Makesurethepolarities(+and-)arealignedcorrectlytothe
diagraminsidethebatterycompartment.
• Replacethecover.
Note: If you won’t need to use your remote for a long period of time, remove the
batteries to avoid damage due to possible leakage.

ItallowstheTVtosearchforallchannelsviewablethroughyourdigitaland
analogconnections.Thisissometimescalledautoprogramming.
1. FromtheAutoChannelSearchmenupresstherightarrowbuttontochoose
theSignal Type(Antenna or Cable).ThedefaultisCable.
2. WiththeSignal Typechosen,pressthedownarrowbuttontoselectStart
andpressOK.AUTO CHANNEL SEARCHrunsasitndsalltheavailable
channels.(Thisstepcantakesometime,dependingonyourcontent
provider).
3. Oncethesearchiscomplete,youcanbeginwatchingTV.Forinformation
oncustomizingyourchannelsormenuoptions,gotoChapter3.
Note: After you complete the Auto Channel Search you may see an
additional screen.“Time stored in the TV may be incorrect after a
loss of power. Please check the time in the Time menu” may appear,
reminding you that the time setting is incorrect. Go to page 33 for more
information.
Choose the Menu Language
Tosetthelanguage,usethearrowbuttonstohighlightLanguage.Thedefault
languageisEnglish.Tochooseanotherlanguage,presstherightarrowbutton
ontheremote,choosethelanguageandpressOK.

enterdigitstoaccessachannel.Intheexamplebelow,youcanenter12or012togetthe
samechannel.Toenteraone-digitchannel,suchaschannel8,justpress8.Afterenteringthe
channel,pressOK.TheCLEARbuttonontheremoteclearsallentries.
Digitalchannelscanhavebothprimarychannels(liketheanalogchannelnumber)and
subchannels.Digitalstationnumbersdisplayinalargerrectanglethatcancontainuptoeight
numbers.Numberstotheleftof the-(dash)arethemainchannelnumber;numberstothe
rightarethesubchannelnumbersforstationsthatbroadcastmorethanonesignal.
Intheexampletotheleft,press“1”,press“2”(although012isshownintheexample,
pressing“0”isn’trequired)andthenpresstherightarrowbuttontomovetothesubchannel.
Press“1”andthen“OK.”TheTVtunestochannel12-1.If channel12isbroadcasting

allowsyoutoblockTVprogramsandmoviesbasedonviolence,sexorothercontentyoumay

Onceyoublockprograms,youcanunblockprogramsbyenteringapassword.
Bydefault,thesoftwareinsideyourTVisturned“off.”ForinstructionstoturnonV-Chip,referto
Activate Parental Control below.
How V-Chip Works
V-Chipreadstheprogram’sage-basedrating(TV-MA, TV-14,etc.)andcontentthemes(Violence (V),
Adult Language (L),etc.).If youhaveblockedtheratingand/orcontentthemesthattheprogram
contains,youwillreceivethemessage:This channel has not been approved for viewing. Change
channel or press OK to enter password and temporarily deactivate the Parental Control.
Broadcastersarenotrequiredtoprovidecontentthemes,soprogramsreceivedwithnocontent
themeswillonlybeblockedif youblocktheirage-basedrating.Youcanalsoblockoutprograms
