Things to Consider Before You Connect
Protect Against Power Surges
o Connect all components before you plug any of their power cords into the wall outlet.
• Turn off the TV and/or component belk)re you connect or disconnect any cables.
• Make sure all antennas and cables tire properly grounded. Refer to the Important Safeguards
sheet packed with your "IV.
Protect Components from Overheating
• Dot-t't block ventilation holes on tiny of the components. Arrange the components so that air
can circulate freely.
• Don't stack components.
• When you place components in a stand, make sure you allow adequate ventilation.
• If you connect an audio receiver or amplifier, place it on the top shelf so the heated air from it
won't flow around other components.
Position Cables Properly to Avoid Audio Interference
• Insert each cable firmly into the designated jack.
• if you place components above the TV, route all cables down the side of the back of the TV
instead of straight down the middle of the back of the TV.
• If your antenna uses 300-ohm twin lead cables, do not coil the cables. Also, keep the twin lead
cables away from audio/video cables.
Important Stand and Base Safety Information
Choose the location for your TV carefully. Place the TV on a stand or base that is of adequate size
and strength to prevent the TV from being accidentally tipped over, pushed off, or pulled off. This
could cause personal injulT and/or damage the TV. Refer to the Important Safeguards sheet packed
witll your 'IV.
Use Indirect Light
Don't place the TV x\here sunlight or room lightii*tg will be directed toward the screen. Use soft or
indirect lighting.

Setup and Connections
ANTENNA, CABLE, CABLE BOX OR VCR
TV (Back panel)
Connect your TV
Connect the cable fronl your cable system or off air antenna to the cable
in-jack on the back of tile TV, as shown.

Plug in the TV
Plug the end of the power cord into the wall outlet. Match the wide
blade of the plug with the wkle slot in the outlet. Insert the plug
completely into the outlet.
Put Batteries in the Remote
1. Remove the battery- compartment cover on the remote,
2. Insert new batteries. Match the polarities (+ and ) on the batteries
with the diagram on the remote.
3. Put the battery compartment cover back on the remote
Turn on the TV
Press the POWER button on the remote control or the TV.

The Screen Menu
The Sc]ucn menu contains tl_e controls dmt let you adjust the Closed
Caption display, Ch)sed Caption mode and Menu Language.
Closed-Caption l_'splay Lets you choose the way closed captioning
inR)rnlafion is shown on the screen. Use the MENU button to toggle
between the following:
Off No captioning inR)rnlation displayed.
On Captioning information shown always, when awulablc.
On When Muted Displays captioning information, when available,
whenever you press the MUTE breton. The captioning information is
not displayed when the sound is not muted.
Closed-Caption Mode Lets you choose which captioning mode is used for
displaying captioning information. Use the MENU button to toggle between
the choices: CC1 and CC2.
Menu Language Lets you select the language of your choice: English,
French, or Spanish. Use the MENU button to toggle between the choices.
Using Closed Captioning
Many programs are encoded with closed-captioning information, which lets
you display the audio portion of a program as text on the TV screen.
Closed captioning is not available on all channels at all times. Only specific
programs encoded with closed-captioning information are applicable. When
a program is closed captioned, the CCicon is displayed in the channel
marker.

The Channel Marker comes tip when you first turn on the TV, change

Unlocked Displays whether the V-Chip system is locked, unlocked, or

Front Panel
VOL < Decreases the volume. When in the menu system, VOL < is used
to point left to items and adjust menu controls.
VOL > Increases the volume. When in the menu system, VOL > is used to
point right to items and adjust menu controls.
CHAN ^Scans up through the channel list. In the menu system, it points
up to items and adjusts menu controls.
CtlAN v Scans down through the current channel list. In the menu
system, it points down to items and adjusts menu controls.
MENU Brings up the Main menu. When in the menu system, it selects
highlighted items. Also returns you to the previous menu.
POWER Turns the TV on and off.

RESET Returns all picture quality controls to their original settings.
(0-9) Number Buttons Enters channel nucllbers and time settings directly
though the remote control, To enter a three-digit channel, press and hold
the first digit, then add the secocld two,
INPUT Press to toggle through available input sources (CH3, CH4, etc.).
SKIP (Commercial Skip) Press once before changing channels. The "IV"
will wait 30 seconds before returning you to tile original channel. Press
again to add more time. Press CLEAR to cancel the SKIP timer.

Press t_lice to clear the screen.

Troubleshooting
If you experience any difliculty k_ith your "[_/, check these basic remedies before calling your service
lcdlnician.
TV will not turn on or controls don't work
Check to make SLII'L'it is plugged in.
Check the wall receptacle (or extension cord) to ntake sure it is "live" by plugging in stmlething else.
Try unphlgging set fol two minutes, plugging it hack in, and then ttlrning it on again.
Problems with remote
Mayhe something is between the remote and the remote sensor.
Maybe the rei//ote is not aimed directly at the WV's rentote sellsor,
Maybe batteries in remote are weak, dead or installed incorrectly. Try replacing batteries.
Remove batteries and hoM down one or more buttons for several seconds. Install the batteries and try
remote.
Turns on or off while playing
Electronic protection circuit may have been activated because of a power surge. \Vait 30 seconds and
then turn on again, If this happens frequently, the voltage in your house may be abnormally high.
Maybe the Sleep Timer is active.
"This program is blocked" message appears on the screen
The V Chip Parental Controls have been activated. Follow these steps to deactivate them:
1. Press DISPLAY on the remote control to bring up the l'£nterPassword screen.
2. With the [_£nterPassword screen still up, press the following buttons on the remote,
one by one: MUTE, DISPLAY, CLEAR and RESET.
Blank screen or black box appears on the screen
Try another channel.
Press RESET, in case the pict__=recontrols are set too low.
Captioning may be turned on. Check the Closed Caption DiaT)lay control panel in the Screen menu.
No sound, picture okay
Maybe sound is muted. Try pressing volunle Lip btitton to restore sound.
No picture, no sound, but power is on
Mayhe cable/air function is in wrong position.
Maybe a vacant channel is tuned.
Sound okay, picture poor

Try adjtlsting sharpness function to improve weak signals.

Care and Cleaning
Care and Cleaning
CAU'IION: Turn OFF your TV before cleaning.
You can clean the TV as required, using a soft lint-free cloth. Be sure to occasionally dust the
ventilation slots in the cahinet to help assure adequate ventilation.
The TWs screen mayu be cleaned with a soft, lint-free cloth as well. Take care not to
scratch or mar the screen. If necessary, you may use a cloth dampened with warm water.
Never use strong cleaning agents, such as ammonia-based cleaners, or abrasive powder.
These types of cleaners will damage the TV.
While cleaning do not spray liquid directly on the screen, or allow liquid to run clown the screen
and inside the TV. Also, avoid placing drinks and vases with water on top of the TV. This could
increase the risk of fire or shock hazard or damage to the "IV.
