RedEarth Energy Storage is an Australian-owned and operated manufacturer of energy storage systems
Co-founded by CEO Charlie Walker, CTO Chris Winter, and non-executive director Bruce Ebzery in 2013, RedEarth Energy Storage began as a
start-up doing research and development into battery energy storage systems specifically for the Australian market.
Starting in the off-grid environment with the development of BlackMax, RedEarth has since added on-grid, commercial and industrial, and
residential systems to its suite of products, all designed to be modular and scalable to allow the end-user customer to update their systems
should their needs change.
RedEarth operates with the belief that electricity will be the primary energy source in the future, and that every business and residence can
generate more clean, green electricity than it can consume – meaning they can financially capitalise on their excess solar energy.

Overview
The RedEarth CopperHead is an Australian-made ready-to-run energy storage system for On or Off-Grid, three-phase
applications.
The system is designed to be easy to install and use. It is assembled and factory tested
prior to shipment and requires only limited programming on-site.
It uses Selectronics SP Pro battery inverters together with RedEarth’s TROPPO 4841
lithium batteries (LFP). As standard it is combined with Selectronic-certified Fronius
inverters making it an AC-coupled system. DC-coupled options with AERL MPPTs are
possible.
It is supplied with everything needed to connect the PV Solar array and a generator
(either 2-wire auto start or manual start), or the grid for grid-connected systems.
The CopperHead is designed to be installed outside in a shaded area. It has an IP54 rating and Is fitted with two replaceable air-
conditioners for hotter climates. A changeover switch is included in case there is a problem with the system. In this case the
loads are run solely off a generator (or the grid) until the system is operational again.
Remote monitoring is available subject to mobile phone coverage. This uses RedEarth’s EMU app. Starlink satellite Internet is an
option where no mobile coverage is available. Selectronics Select.Live monitoring Is also available.
CopperHead installations require the electrical connection of:
The customers load – there are dedicated terminals inside the unit
to connect to.
The AC outputs of the externally mounted Fronius PV inverters.
Generator or Grid - there Is dedicated MCB as well as generator
auto-start and generator battery trickle charger terminals inside the
unit to connect to.
Remote monitoring uses RedEarth's RedPi edge device as well as
Selectronics SelectLive- The RedEarth supplied RedPi has a built-in
SIM-card (requires mobile coverage), otherwise connect the internet
via LAN cable. Optional Starlink satellite connection can be arranged.
For a smooth installation, RedEarth offers installer training as well as tech-support during installation. RedEarth also requests
that the Installer contact RedEarth's Tech Support during installation once the system Is turned on. This confirms the remote
monitoring Is fully operational.
During factory testing all parameters are pre-set for correct operation between the SP Pro inverter, the Fronius PV inverters and
the battery bank. However, some parameters may need to be adjusted during installation (e.g., generator size, maintenance run
time, etc). Please consult this manual as well as the Selectronics Manual and comprehensive Selectronics website for additional
information if required.
NOTE: The CopperHead is not designed to act as a main switch board for the site, as it does not include space for additional
main & customer circuit breakers or RCDs. The MEN link and Earth connection need to be installed as per AS/NZS 3000:2018.
NOTE: Selectronics allows more complex installation options (such as dual phase or high-power grid T-connections) To Install
these, the installer should have experience with Selectronics and have received training directly from them. RedEarth primarily
supplies and supports our standard configurations.

Step 2. Positioning the CopperHead
The CopperHead is designed to be a free-standing, requiring access from all sides. RedEarth strongly recommends that it be
placed in a shaded area, for example under a solar array. Ensure the air vents on the doors are kept clear at all times.
Consider which Is the most suitable orientation for the CopperHead wrt the small see-thru access door for the main electrical
panel.
An important consideration is the access point for electrical connections. As per the images below, there are 2 access point
options - left-side and underneath the electrical panel behiind the main access door:
Step 3. Solar installation
The Fronius PV inverters supplied are Installed external to the CopperHead, and the AC output brought into the system via the
cable entry access points.
Note that the Fronius Inverters supplied are Selectronics certified, this means that in off-grid applications the total kW rating of
the Fronius Inverters can be up to 2x the total Selectronics inverter rating. For example, if the system has 3x7.5kW Selectronics
Inverters (total of 22.5kW), then up to 45kW of Selectronics-certified Fronius PV Inverters can be connected. In this case 3x15kW
or 2x20kW Fronius Inverters could be used.
The communication cable (CAT5/6) must be Installed between the Fronius Inverters and the CopperHead to allow proper
operation of the system.
IMPORTANT: Before positioning the CopperHead, be sure that there is an available area of 1700 x 3800 x 2500 (H x W
x D). This will allow a minimum of 90⁰ open door angle as well as walkway clearance.
