The Refix water hammer arrestor (Refix WD) is an item of pressure equipment according to the Pressurised Equipment
Directive 2014/68/EU. A non-replaceable semi-diaphragm compliant with DIN EN 13831 subdivides the vessel into a gas and
a water chamber. Compressed gas is present in the gas chamber. The water chamber is directly connected to the system
and filled with water.
Assembly, commissioning, maintenance and disassembly as of the vessel may only be carried out by knowledgeable and
qualified specialist personnel.
Reflex Winkelmann GmbH will accept no liability for any damage resulting from failure to observe the information in this
manual.
Intended use
The Refix water hammer arrestor must be
inserted upstream of devices with quick-
closing valves (e.g. washing machines,
dishwashers), in order to damp pressure
peaks to an admissible level.
Use only in systems that are protected in
compliance with DIN EN 1717.
The vessel is certified according to ACS and
WRAS.
Corrosion of the vessel is highly unlikely
because it is made of corrosion-resistant
steel.
Any infringement or any other use to the contrary is classed as improper and will result in the loss of all warranty and
liability.
In particular, improper use comprises:
•Use in potable water systems.
•Mobile use.
•Outdoor use.
•Use with oils.
•Use with flammable media.
•Use with foam-forming substances.
•Use with distilled water.
•Use with fluid group 1 media according to Directive 2014/68/EU.

Safety
•Comply with national standards and regulations for the operation of pressurized equipment and accident prevention as
a priority.
•Do not cause any impermissible forces when installing the pressure vessel.
•The place of installation must be an enclosed, dry and frost-free area.
•The place of installation must be protected against flooding.
•Risk of burns due to hot surfaces, hot water or hot steam.
•Before working on the system, depressurise it and allow it to cool down. Ensure that the pressure vessel is
depressurised before starting work. To do so, use the digital pressure gauge for testing (article number 9119198).
•The min./max. permissible operating pressure (PS) must not be undershot or exceeded. The pre-load pressure must
not exceed 4 bar during storage and/or transport.
•The min./max. permissible operating temperature (TS) must be complied with.
•Damaged vessels must not be mounted or operated.
•When replacing parts, use only use original spare parts from the manufacturer.
Installation
The Refix water hammer arrestor can be installed horizontally as well as vertically or wall-mounted.
Proceed as follows for the installation:
1. Empty the system in which you want to install the Refix water hammer arrestor.
2. Switch the system to a pressure-free state.
3. Ensure that the Refix water hammer arrestor is depressurised.
4. Install the Refix water hammer arrestor in the feed directly before the device that triggers the water hammer so that the
generated overpressure is damped as quickly as possible.
5. Fill the system with water.
6. Perform a leak test and a function test.
Maintenance
The operator must maintain the system at least once a year. This includes a water quality test, an external inspection and a
test of the pre-load pressure.
Disassembly
Before any check-up or disassembling of the vessel as well as the parts which exposed to pressure, the Refix WD needs to
be pressure-less.
Disposal
Observe local regulations for the recycling or disposal of waste. The product must not be disposed of with normal domestic
waste, rather must be appropriately disposed of.
