How to Use
Line Cord Safety Tips
NOTE: This appliance has a polarized
plug (one blade is wider than the
other). As a safety feature, this plug
will fit in a polarized outlet only one
way. If the plug does not fit fully in
the outlet, reverse the plug.
If it still does not fit, contact a quali-
fied electrician. Do not attempt to
defeat this safety feature.
1. To insert plug, grasp it firmly and
guide it into outlet.
2. To disconnect the appliance, grasp
the plug and remove it from outlet.
Do not pull or yank on the cord or
appliance. Do not wrap the cord
around the appliance.
Thin Hair Lifter
The Thin Hair Lifter (item 18), is perfect
for use on thin or curly hair. Additional
teeth help to pickup hairs that may lie
flat, making them difficult to cut. To
use, snap Thin Hair Lifter onto desired
guide comb then use guide comb as
normal.
Removable Blade Assembly
The HC5030 has a removable blade
assembly that allows you to brush out
and rinse the blades under water for
easy cleaning. DO NOT rinse clipper
body in water. Blades can only be
rinsed when they are detached from
clipper body.To remove, grasp blade
assembly firmly in one hand and clip-
per in the other hand, then pull apart.
Rinse blades under running water for
10-15 seconds to remove excess hair
and debris. To reattach blade, align
notch on blade assembly with receiver
on clipper body and simply snap back
into place. DO NOT RINSE CLIPPER
BODY IN WATER.
Taper Lever
The HC5020 and HC5030 include a
Taper Lever. Use the Taper Lever to
add versatility to your hair cuts by
changing the closeness of the blades
gradually. The Taper Lever has 6
length options with the fully forward
position providing the closest cut.
Moving the lever gradually backward
increases the length.
Blade Care
The life of your clippers will depend
on frequency of use, care, hair type,
and condition. The HC5015 and
HC5020 have blades that do not
require additional oiling. To maintain
the HC5010 blades in peak condi-
tion, apply oil after every three to
four haircuts. The HC5030 has a
removable blade assembly that can
be rinsed under water. It is recom-
mended to oil the blades after each
time it is rinsed.

How to Use Styling Guide
Before Cutting Hair
1. Make sure your hair clipper is
running smoothly, with a slight
vibration.
2. Place a cape or towel around the
neck of the person whose hair is
being trimmed or cut. (A cape is
provided with models HC5015,
HC5020, HC5030).
3. This person should be seated so
that the top of their head is at your
eye level.
5. Comb out all knots and tangles.
6. Ensure the hair is dry. Hair clippers
perform best with dry hair.
7. Hold the hair clipper in the palm of
one hand with your thumb resting
firmly on the top of the hair clipper.
This grip provides comfortable
cutting control. Although the hair
clipper may be used with the left
or right hand, using it right-handed
allows you to access the taper
lever more easily.
To Attach Guide Combs
1. Select the trimming guide that
matches the length you want
the hair to be after the cut. The
trimming guides are numbered
and marked with specific lengths.
See preceding chart to determine
which combs your model contains.
2. While the clipper is off, grasp the
clipper body in one hand and a
comb in the other. Line up the
comb teeth with the blade, then
press down on the back of the
comb. When the comb is properly
engaged you will hear a “click.”
To Remove Guide Combs
1. Pull small tab on rear of comb up
and away from clipper.
2. Replace longer guide comb with
shorter desired length. Repeat
step 1, but start at the nape of the
neck flicking the clipper away from
the head just below the previously
cut hair.
3. To cut
hair at
the top of
the head
using a
scissors,
hold
the hair
between
your
fingers
and cut a
small amount at a time. Cut from
front to back. To cut hair at the top
of the head using a guide comb,
select a desired length most likely
being longer than the sides. Cut
from front to back.
4.
Remove
the
trimming
guide and
replace
with
either
the left
or right
Giving a Comfortable,
Even Cut
Allow the clipper to cut through the
hair without moving it too quickly.
Moving the clipper too quickly may
result in discomfort or an inadequate
cut. Use short strokes when cutting,
and initially use longer guide combs
until you are comfortable with the
length of the cut.
How to Give a Haircut
1. Start at the back of the head with
a slightly longer guide comb.
Holding the clipper as shown, take
slow strokes towards the crown of
the head flicking the clipper away
from the
head when
you reach
the crown.
Repeat
technique
on each
side of the
head. When
completed,
comb the
area to
remove any loose hair and to
determine whether you need any
further cutting.
