connection.
Q: Is the R1+ compatible with the GoPro Hero5 Session?
A: The R1+ is NOT compatible with the GoPro Hero5 Session yet, and we currently do not

Q: Why doesn’t the R1/R1+ live stream while recording for some of the resolutions and frame
rates?
A: The live video feed is controlled by the GoPro camera. GoPro does not support live

3. Troubleshooting
3.1 Connecting the R1+ to a GoPro Camera
To connect the R1+ to a GoPro camera,
First, connect the GoPro camera to your GoPro Capture App.
(HERO5 Users please make sure both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are enabled before
pairing with HERO5 Black using GOPRO Capture APP)
After connecting your GoPro camera to the APP, you can select your own
password.
Then, connect your R1+ to your GoPro camera with the SSID/Password
(HERO5 Users SHOULD use the SSID/Password found on your camera to log in.)
3.2 Commonly Seen Issues
a. R1+ not connecting to Hero5 (Black)
There are 2 possible causes for this issue.
1. R1+ shows GoPro SSID but it cannot connect to GoPro.
According to our customer service experience, many cases are due to
incorrectly connecting the R1+ to the camera. Please check first if their
GoPro camera connects to their smartphone application correctly. If the R1+
cannot connect to GoPro while their smartphone has no issues connecting
to the R1+, the R1+ needs to be replaced with a new one.

2. The GoPro SSID is not listed at all on the R1+.
The R1+ connects to GoPro cameras by connecting to its MAC Address. We
recently found that some Hero5 Black units use a MAC address not listed in
our R1+ source code. We have included all remaining MAC addresses in our
new 1.2.1 firmware, so you should have no issues connecting after updating
firmware.
b. While updating the R1+ firmware to version 1.1.0, It shows this
screen.
- This is caused by only adding 1 of the 2 .bin file required to perform the 1.1.0
update (BOTH r1_110.bin and r1+_110.bin MUST be placed into the R1+
folder separately)
- Also, please be advised, when updating the R1/R1+ firmware, after you copy &
paste the firmware update file to the R1/R1+ folder, you must disconnect the
R1/R1+ from your computer before rebooting it or you may run into an error.
Please keep this in mind, and advise it to your customers if the situation arises.
c. My R1+ and Hero5 are paired, but they are not connected
automatically after rebooting.
- Make sure both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are enabled, pair with Hero5 Black using
GoPro Capture APP, and connect with your R1+ using the ID/PASSWORD
shown on your Hero5 Black.

d. My R1+ shows “PREVIEW NOT SUPPORTED” when I connected with my
HERO5.
- Streaming a high frame in a wireless environment will cause the video to be
severed. The GoPro Capture App also does not seem to support streaming
high frames in a wireless environment due to hanging issues.
3.3 R1 Related Issues
a. While trying to update my R1 firmware to version 1.7.0, it says
“Firmware update failed”
- This is usually caused by a corrupted update file. Please tell the user to
download the file again from our website or send it to him directly. If the
problem persists, tell them to contact us at support@removu.com or submit a
ticket at https://www.removu.com/inquiry-form-asia-oceania/.
3.4 Updating Firmware
To Update the firmware on the R1+:
Step1. Download the appropriate firmware update file from
https://www.removu.com/r1-plus_firmware/
If you are currently running firmware version 1.1.0, please download Version 1.2.1.

If you are running a version that is LOWER than 1.1.0 (i.e. 1.0.5) you MUST update
your R1+ to version 1.1.0 BEFORE updating to version 1.2.1.
Step2. In the r1+_110.zip file you will notice there are 2 different files, after extracting
both of them, you MUST put BOTH of the files into the R1+ storage folder.
Like so:
Step3. Please make sure to disconnect your R1+ from your computer BEFORE
rebooting the R1+.
If you reboot the R1+ while it is still connected to your computer, you may run into
errors during the firmware update process.
Please follow the same process when updating to firmware version 1.2.1.
