HOW DOES INNOVOWORK?
Types of Urinary Incontinence
Stress Incontinence
If you find that you leak when you cough, sneeze or exercise, this is known as stress incontinence. This happens
when the pelvic floor muscles, which support the bladder, are weakened or damaged. Programme 1 on Innovo
strengthens the pelvic floor by delivering comfortable stimulation through the gel pads positioned on the garments.
If you haven’t used this type of muscle stimulation before, the idea may seem a little strange and the sensation
unusual, but there is no need to be concerned - your body will soon get used to this new sensation of your pelvic floor
muscles contracting and relaxing. Regularly applying this cycle of contraction and relaxation will help to improve your
pelvic floor muscle tone, strength, endurance and overall control.
Urge Incontinence
If you find that you often experience a sudden and urgent desire to pass urine and sometimes leak, this is known as
urge incontinence. This is caused by overactivity in the muscle mechanism that controls bladder function.
Programme 2 on Innovo delivers a gentle signal to the nerve that controls this muscle mechanism, helping to control
the overactivity. The sensation experienced when using Innovo to treat urge incontinence is a tapping sensation
directly under the gel pads which are activated when using Programme 2.
Mixed Incontinence
It is common for women to experience symptoms of both urge and stress incontinence. This condition is called mixed
incontinence. Usually, one type is more bothersome than the other. Treatment for mixed incontinence consists of a
combination of the stress and urge programmes.
For further treatment/programme information please see page 13.

approximately 5 sessions.
2. Make sure your skin is clean and free from oils, lotions, moisturisers etc as
these may prevent the gels pads from adhering properly.
3. We recommend that you wear high-thigh underwear, which leaves your
buttocks exposed as the gel pads need to be in full contact with your skin to
deliver the Innovo treatment programmes successfully (Fig. 6).
4. Follow this instruction manual and the Quick Start Guide carefully to ensure you

Remember that you can use Innovo to treat Stress, Urge and Mixed Incontinence. Below are suggested weekly
treatment plans for each. It is recommended that you complete just one treatment session per day and that you
follow a minimum 12-week treatment plan to achieve optimum results.
For a mixed schedule, we recommend that you alternate your use of Stress and Urge programmes every other day
e.g. A 12 week treatment plan could be broken down into 6 treatment sessions per week (3 Stress sessions & 3 Urge
sessions) to ensure that you are achieving the best treatment outcomes.
Visit www.restorethefloor.com to understand how to get the best from your Innovo product.

STEP 7: GET INTOTHE CORRECT POSITION FOR YOU
14
Fig. 20
Fig. 21
Fig. 22
Before you turn the controller on, get into the position that is most
comfortable for you:
Position A:
To optimise the results from a treatment session, it is recommended that
you remain standing with your feet flat on the floor, shoulder width apart.
You should tilt slightly forward and stand near a surface to lean on
if required (Fig. 20).
If standing you may move a little during the treatment to help you remain
comfortable, but you should avoid moving too much as this may interfere
with the effectiveness of the treatment. However, if you wish to move to a
different location, you should pause the session, move to the new location
and then resume the session.
Position B:
Where standing for 30 minutes is difficult you can carry out the treatment session in the crook lying position which is
lying on your back with your legs bent at the knee, shoulder width apart and with your feet flat (Fig. 21). To help
support your back while crook lying, you can relax your quad muscles by just letting the weight of your thighs sink
gently outwards into your hip sockets. This will help you to maintain a small anterior tilt of your pelvis, which has the
effect of slightly arching your lower back.
Position C:
The crook lying position can also be carried out with your back slightly raised (Fig. 22). Ensure the legs are bent at the
knee and your feet are flat.

8.1 TURNING ON THE CONTROLLER AND STARTING A SESSION
1. Turn on your Innovo controller by pressing the On/Off Button ( ).
2. Ensure that you have selected Programme 1. The programme number is indicated
at the top of the screen (Fig. 23). You can change programmes by pressing the
Program Button ( P) for 2 seconds.
3. Start the treatment session by pressing the Increase Intensity Button ( ). You
will see the intensity indicator rise on screen (Fig. 24). The Intensity Buttons increase
and decrease the intensity in single increments and the range goes from 0-120.
If you keep the Intensity Button pressed it will increase/decrease continuously.
4. Once you begin to increase the intensity level the treatment timer starts to
countdown from 30 minutes (Fig. 25).
8.2 INTENSITY LEVELS AND WHAT TO EXPECT
DURING A STRESS TREATMENT SESSION
1. You should increase the level of intensity gradually during
your first treatment session. This gives you time to become
accustomed to the sensation. At first you will begin to feel
the stimulation in the buttock area and as you continue to
increase the intensity, this stimulation will move forward
between the legs, giving you a ‘lifting’ sensation throughout
the pelvic floor (Fig. 26). You may achieve this pelvic floor lift
at an intensity level of approximately 30-40.
2. With time you will find that you are capable of reaching higher intensity levels,
so you should regularly assess your ability to go up another level or two. With time
(usually within 1 week), you should find that you are better able to tolerate higher
intensities and are well on your way to attaining the 70-75 recommended intensity
level. Once you can feel a strong stimulation throughout the full pelvic floor you have
reached a sufficient level. However, you should never exceed your comfort level.
Effective stimulation should be strong but never uncomfortable.
Important:
You will not feel stimulation directly under the gel pads on the front or sides of
your legs.
3. If you wish, you can now clip the neck strap onto the controller and hang it around
your neck (Fig. 27). For more information refer to page 19.

8.3 HOW TO PAUSE A TREATMENT SESSION
If you wish to pause a treatment session before it is finished, simply press the On/off
Button ( ) briefly. The stimulation will stop and the display will indicate that the
controller is paused (Fig. 28). To resume the session, briefly press the On/Off Button
again. The display will return to the timer countdown and the stimulation will begin
again. However, if the session is paused for 2 minutes or more, the intensity will be
halved when the session is resumed. This safety feature ensures that stimulation does
not feel uncomfortable when you resume treatment.
You may switch off your controller at any time during a treatment session by
pressing the On/Off Button for two seconds. The controller will power off and your
session will terminate.
8.4 FINISHING A TREATMENT SESSION
1. The treatment session is completed when the counter reaches zero. The display will
flash “00:00” (Fig. 29), stimulation is reduced to zero and the controller will beep to
indicate the end of the session.
2. Once the session is complete, switch the controller off by pressing the On/Off Button
( ) for two seconds.
3. Disconnect the leads from the controller and the left and right garments (Fig. 30).
4. If you are using the neck strap, you can remove the controller from around
your neck.
Note: If you do not switch the controller off, it will do so automatically after 10 seconds.
However, if another button is pressed within this 10-second period, the controller will
remain on for 2 minutes, at which point it will switch off automatically.
8.5 REMOVING THE GARMENTS
1. Unfasten the strap from the left garment and slowly peel the garment from the front
of the leg first until it is half detached.
2. Then start to peel from the rear until it is completely removed.
3. Lay the garment on a flat surface and repeat to remove the right garment.
4. With both garments on a flat surface replace the 8 plastic liners on the black side of
the gel pads (Fig. 31).
5. Fold each garment in half to ensure that the gel pads
remain flat when packed away (Fig. 32).
Note: The gel pads remain affixed to the garment in between
treatment sessions.

If you keep the Intensity Button pressed it will increase/decrease continuously.
4. Once the intensity level is increased the treatment timer starts to countdown from
30 minutes as the programme is running (Fig. 35).
9.2 INTENSITY LEVELS AND WHAT TO EXPECT DURING AN URGE TREATMENT SESSION
1. You should increase the level of intensity gradually during your session. This gives
you time to become accustomed to the sensation. At first you will begin to feel a
slight tapping sensation under the 2 gel pads positioned on your buttocks (Fig. 36).
Continue to increase the intensity until you feel a strong tapping, but only to a level
you find comfortable.
2. You can now clip the neck strap onto the controller and place it around your neck if
you wish (Fig. 37). For more information refer to page 19.
3. You may move a little during the treatment to help you remain comfortable, but
you should avoid moving too much as this may interfere with the effectiveness of the
treatment. However, if you wish to move to a different location, you should pause
the session, move to the new location and then resume the session.

forceful pull on the neck strap. If this happens, align the two halves of the clip (Fig. 44)
and simply push them back together until the oval button clicks into place. If it does
not “click” together, you may have one side of the clip back-to-front. Turn it around
and try again.
Using the Keylock Function during your treatment session
When you have set the intensity to a level you find comfortable, press and hold the
Information Button ( ) for two seconds to activate the Keylock Function (Fig. 45). This
“locks” the Increase and Decrease Intensity Buttons, so the intensity cannot be changed
accidentally. The other buttons will still function as normal. If you wish to increase or

Function. Deactivate the Mute Function by again pressing both the Up and Down Scroll
Buttons for 1 second.
Note: The Mute Function is overruled if there is a gel pad contact problem (see page 23)
or if there is a controller error message (see page 22).
Reset Data
The Innovo controller can store the data from 90 treatment sessions to enable you to
review your treatment progress. Once this is reviewed, the controller can be reset and
the data cleared by pressing and holding the Decrease Intensity Button ( ) and the
Information Button ( ) for 4 seconds (Fig. 47). After 2 seconds, the Total Treatment
Time will begin to flash on screen and when this resets to 00:00, your data has been
cleared. This function will not work while a treatment session is in progress. If you don’t
reset the data after 90 sessions, you can still continue to use your product. What
happens in this instance is that the data from the 91st and subsequent sessions is
written over the data for session #1, #2 etc.
