PRODUCT SPECIFIC SAFETY WARNINGS
Using the Perfect Miter Setup Blocks
1. Note how many sides the segmented object you are making
will have and locate the Perfect Miter Setup Block for that
number of sides.
2. Prepare your miter gauge so that you will be able to adjust
the angle of the face or fence. You must be able to rotate
the face or fence.
3. Position the Perfect Miter Setup Block so that the face with
the mark for the number of sides you want will be up against
the face or fence of the miter gauge and press the block onto
the miter bar of your miter gauge. (Guidelines for the correct
positioning on the miter bar are printed on the top of each
Perfect Miter Setup Block). Fig. 1.
4. Slide the Perfect Miter Setup Block on the miter bar toward
the face or fence of the miter gauge until both of the contact
points on the block contact the face or fence. Fig. 2.
5. Tighten the miter gauge to lock in the setting, making sure
that both contact points are tight against the face or fence
and the Perfect Miter Setup Block is on the gauge’s miter bar.
6. Remove the Perfect Miter Setup Blocks from the miter gauge.
The angle for the number of segments you want should be set.
>To avoid serious injury, keep hands and fingers away from the spinning saw blade. Maintain
awareness of the blade at all times.
> ALWAYS follow manufacturers’ guidelines and instructions
for all tools used in conjunction with the Perfect Miter
Setup Blocks.
>Before beginning any sawing operation, ALWAYS make
sure that ALL knobs on your miter gauge have been
tightened and the gauge will not shift during use.
>Always remove the Perfect Miter Setup Blocks from your
miter gauge before attempting to make a cut.
The Perfect Miter Setup Blocks are
designed for use ONLY with miter gauges that have a
3/4" x 3/8" miter bar.

Saw Setup and Tips for Making the Cuts
1. With your table saw turned off and unplugged, raise the blade
as high as it will go and use a small machinist’s square or
combination square to check whether the blade is square to
the table. If it is not, follow the directions in the owner’s manual
for your saw to adjust the blade so that it is square. Any tilt in
the blade will negatively affect your results. Fig. 3.
2. Check that your miter gauge slides smoothly and easily in the
miter slot on your table saw, without catching, and with no
side-to-side play. Many miter gauges have adjustment features
that allow you to fine-tune the fit in the miter slot. If your miter
gauge has such a feature and if there’s excessive side-to-side
play, or “slop,” in the fit, follow the instructions for your miter
gauge to remove the play. Never use a miter gauge if you
have to force it. Fig. 4.
3. Check that your miter gauge’s face locks securely in place
and doesn’t pivot at all during use. Any looseness or pivoting
will change the cutting angle, negatively affecting results. Note
also that the cut will always be made in the trailing end of the
workpiece when the miter gauge is in the left miter slot of
the table saw.
4. Use of an auxiliary fence on your miter gauge is highly
recommended. In fact, depending on the miter gauge, use
of an auxiliary fence might be required for setting the angle
with the 4-Sided and 5-Sided faces of the Setup Blocks. The
faces of some miter gauges might not be wide enough for
both touchpoints on the Setup Block to make contact,
altering the angle. Fig. 5.
5. Be sure to fit the bar of the miter gauge into the correct slot
for the number of sides you want to cut. The markings for the
correct miter bar positioning will be in the same color as the
indicator for the number of sides.
6. Make sure that workpieces can’t slide along the face or fence
of your miter gauge as you make the cut. If this is a problem,
it can be helpful to add adhesive-backed sandpaper to the face
or fence of your miter gauge to increase friction and provide
a better hold. Extend the sandpaper along the entire face
of the miter gauge face or fence.
7. During the cut, make sure that you apply even forward
pressure when advancing the workpiece past the blade.
Take care not to apply greater pressure to either side
of the miter gauge; applying uneven pressure could
alter the angle of the cut.
8. Make sure that your stock is machined straight and square.
Miters are a crosscut application, and any curves, cups or
twists in the workpiece can be dangerous and lead to
unacceptable results.
9. To help ensure that all pieces you are cutting for a frame are
the same length, it is best to use a stop block clamped to the
rip fence of your table saw. Universal Fence Clamps (31373,
sold separately) provide a quick and easy way of securing a
stop block to most rip fences. Once the block is clamped in
place, set the fence to the desired distance from the blade
and use it to register each workpiece for the cut. Fig. 6.
