for SCP-55 OWNER'S MANUAL
Thank you for purchasing the Roland MCB-3. The MCB-3 is aConnector Box designed exclusively for use
with the SCP-55 Sound Canvas PC Card. By connecting the MCB-3 to your SCP-55, you can connect a
microphone and an audio device to record audio signals. And you can also connect external MIDi
devices such as aMIDI keyboard.
IMPORTANT NOTES
PLACEMENT
•Do not subject the unit to temperature extremes (e.g.,
direct sunlight in an enclosed vehicle). Avoid using or
storing the unit in dusty or humid areas, or areas that
are subject to high levels of vibration.
Do not expose the unit to temperature extremes or
install it near devices that radiate heat. Direct sunlight
in an enclosed vehicle can deform or discolor the unit.
MAINTENANCE
•For everyday cleaning wipe the unit with asoft, dry
cloth or one that has been slightly dampened with
water. To remove stubborn dirt, use amild, non-abra-
sive detergent. Afterwards, be sure to wipe the unit
thoroughly with asoft, dry cloth.
•Never use benzene, thinners, alcohol or solvents of
any kind, to avoid the possibility of discoloration
and/or deformation.
ADDITIONAL PRECAUTIONS
•Protect the unit from strong impact.
•Do not allow objects or liquids of any kind to pene-
trate the unit. In the event of such an occurrence, dis-
continue use immediately. Contact qualified service
personnel as soon as possible.
•Should amalfunction occur, or if you suspect there is
aproblem, discontinue use tnvnediately. Contact
qualified service personnel as soon as possible.
•To avoid the risk of electric shock, do not open the
unit.

LMiDi OUT Connector
This connector transmits MIDI messages from
the computer. Use aMIDI cable to connect to
aMIDI device (e.g., sound module).
2. MIDI IN Connector
This connector receives MIDI messages from
an external MIDI device. Use aMIDI cable to
connect to aMIDI device (e.g., MID! key-
board).
3. PHONES Jack (stereo miniature type)
This jack is the same as the PHONES jack on
the audio output connector provided with the
SCP-55. Connect to an audio reproduction
device or headphones.
4. LINE IN Jack (stereo miniature type)
Audio signals are input to this jack. Use audio
cables to connect to audio devices (e.g., CD
Player).
5. MIC Jack (mono miniature type)
Connect the supplied microphone.

Connecting the MCB-3
Connect the MCB-3 to the SCP-55 so that the mark faces the SOUND Canvas logo on the SCP-55.

*You can also connect the MCB-3 after inserting the SCP-55 into the PCMCIA slot. Connect the MCB-3
with the Amark facing upwards.
*When connecting the MCB'3, the audio output connector is unused.
Connecting the Microphone
Connect the supplied microphone to the MIC jack of the MCB-3.

Use aMIDI cable to connect the MIDI OUT connector on the MIDI keyboard to the MIDI IN connector on
the MCB-3.

•As the SCP-55 does not support aMIDI THRU function, the SCP-55 or aconnected sound module will
not sound by playing the MIDI keyboard without using an application.
Connecting an External Sound Module
Use aMIDI cable to connect the MIDI IN connector on the external sound module to the MIDI OUT con-
nector on the MCB-3.
