Roland DP90S User manual

DP-Series
High-End, Compact Design
Compact yet feature-packed, the premium-class DP90S/90 models were designed in pursuit of perfection,
with a stylish aesthetic, supreme sound quality and touch, and friendly functionality. With the best piano
keyboard action and state-of-the-art piano sound engine onboard, the new DP pianos impress with their
stylish, compact cabinets (approx. 30 cm depth) and surprisingly large speaker enclosures built-into the
stand. Combining the best sound engine, best keyboard action, and best speaker system, the DP90S and
DP90 offer world-class sound and performance in a space-saving format. The DP90S is available in two
stunning, high-impact nishes: the brand-new polished white (PW) and contemporary polished ebony (PE).
The DP90 is available in a classic medium cherry nish and satin black. On both models, the
key-lid provides a at, uncluttered surface when closed, and a stately, upright-piano-like
music rest when opened. The lid closes slowly and safely even when released suddenly. The
custom LCD is conveniently built into the sleek front panel, providing friendly access to the
user interface. The slim, stylish appearance blends beautifully with any decor.

SuperNATURAL Piano Sound Engine
Equipped with the acclaimed SuperNATURAL Piano Sound Engine, the DP90S
and DP90 deliver the world’s best piano sounds realized through a marriage of
an 88-key multi-sampled sound engine and the award-winning technology used
in our V-Pianos. The result is a stunningly faithful reproduction of the tonal and
resonant behavior of each individual key across
the keyboard. The tone changes seamlessly
and naturally based on touch, and the decay is
smooth and natural with no artificial looping.

Historical Accuracy
In addition to the selection of onboard grand piano sounds,
the DP90S and DP90 are equipped with an Early Piano
category that contains four fortepiano variations and two
harpsichord variations. The built-in historic temperaments
are for performances with other classical instruments.
Pedals Support Expressive Playing Technique
The damper and soft pedals continuously detect the slightest differences in the
amount that they are depressed, thus supporting a full range of pedal techniques.
You’ll hear subtle and natural changes in tone, for example, when the virtual damper
is barely touching the virtual string. There are also
variations in the sustain of a sound when you
depress the pedal gradually. The pedals even support
the most subtle techniques, such as depressing the
pedal again after releasing it for an instant.
Purity, Performance, Convenience
The DP90S and DP90 never need to be tunes, so you can enjoy perfect piano
sounds in any climate. You can adjust the volume your are playing, and can also
use headphones for private practice day or night. Both pianos contain skill-building
features such as the onboard metronome, USB
recorder*, Twin Piano mode, AB Repeat, and
flexible audio controls (Center Cancel, Transpose,
and Tempo Change).
*USB memory is required for audio recording/playback. The DP90S/90
can record and play back your performances as SMF data and audio data.
Environmentally Friendly Design
The DP90S and DP90 achieve low power consumption while still delivering high-impact
performance. They also feature an Auto Off function, which, when activated,
automatically switches the power off after a specified period of inactivity. Inactivity
time is selectable from 10 minutes, 30 minutes (default), 240 minutes, and off.
Real-Feel Keyboard
The DP90S is equipped with Roland’s flagship PHAIII Ivory Feel keyboard with
Escapement. The DP90 contains an Ivory Feel-S keyboard with Escapement. With
fast key-repetition and sensitivity, these keyboards faithfully translate into sound
the subtle differences in tones from different playing styles and the force at which
they are played. The keys are finished with material
that provides moisture-absorbing properties,
resulting in a keyboard with the natural texture and
tactile sensation of real ivory and ebony.
*Both PHAIII and Ivory Feel-S keyboards feature a Progressive
Hammer-Action design. The PHAIII has a two-piece construction; the
Ivory Feel-S has a one-piece construction.

Exquisite Clarity
The newly developed Soundboard Behavior function emulates the natural
characteristics of string vibrations on the soundboard, and is not found on conventional
sampling pianos. The technology can enhance sound clarity even when many notes are
played simultaneously. Onboard Ambience and Damper Resonance effects are specially
designed for the DP90/90S to achieve a wider sound field from the compact cabinet.

The wood used to make our digital-piano
cabinets is imported from Indonesia. In
2008, Roland designated a 100-hectare
area for tree planting, where the company
has been planting trees for environmental
purposes. The area contains a mixture of
protected forest and trees designated
for digital-piano-cabinet production. This
forestation project is expected to offset
approximately 10,000 tons of CO2 over
a period of 20 years.
Ensuring high quality while protecting the environment:
Roland is ISO9001 and ISO14001 certified
At Roland, several group companies have obtained ISO9001 certification. In addition, in
January 1999, Roland also received ISO14001 international environmental management
system certification. We’re actively seeking ways to maintain harmony with the environment.
(ISO=International Standardization Organization: an organization for the promotion of
standardization of international units and terms. They provide
different categories of certification: ISO9001 Series certification
is a product quality certification for products that undergo a
certain level of quality control from the design stage to the after
service stage; ISO14001 Series certification is for environment-
related standards. Each member of the Roland Group is
striving to obtain certification.) ISO9001 ISO14001

Roland regards technologies that make effective use of limited energy resources as “Energy Saving Technology” and promotes development of
environment-conscious electronic musical instruments that incorporate such technologies in any of the product categories.
