And then you’ll discover its sound — a stunningly realistic stereo-sampled grand piano that’s built on individual
multi-samples for every key. The KR117M also features Roland’s new Solid Progressive Hammer-Action
Keyboard with Escapement, plus advanced player piano technology that reproduces the songs down to the

The KR115M, compared to the KR117M, is smaller in size, weighs less, and has a streamlined speaker system.
Otherwise its features are largely the same as the flagship model. Among the highlights: an amazing 88-note,
individually sampled stereo grand piano engine, a Solid Progressive Hammer-Action Keyboard with Escapement,
and advanced player-piano technology, with expressive, visually impressive automated keyboard movement
mechanisms. These big features make the KR115M, just like the KR117M, one of the finest digital grand
pianos available today.

Designed with the performer in mind
The KR115 is ideal for those who want to focus on their playing first and foremost. It comes without the auto-
matic keyboard movement feature, but offers other features from the KR-Grand series, including incomparable
grand piano sounds, a Solid Progressive Hammer-Action Keyboard with Escapement, a full range of automatic
accompaniment options, hundreds of different instrument tones, and the amazing DigiScore. The KR115 is a
piano that truly “has it all.”

Impressive automatic
keyboard movement
The KR117M and KR115M come with an auto-
matic keyboard-movement mechanism that will
entertain and impress. Insert any Standard MIDI
File (SMF) or other music file, and the keys will
start “playing” the music, perfectly reproducing the
songs down to the smallest detail. All eyes will be
drawn to the magical moving keys, which have
been enhanced visually on the sides for an attrac-
tive “wood” look (KR117M only). Using the large
selection of preset songs or commercially available
SMF data, you can create automatic keyboard per-
formances in any genre. You can also record your
own performances — not just with the piano tone
but with other onboard tones too. And when you
play those performances back, watch those keys
move just the way you played them!
Handy remote control
The KR117M and KR115M and KR115 can be
operated from a distance by a remote control
device, with which you can
start/stop the music, change the
volume, mute the sound, and
control effects and other func-
tions. Also, for the first time,
there is an option for remotely
accessing and controlling these pianos* with a
PDA or a wireless PC. The Intelligent Grand
has now joined the Wireless Age.

Eye-catching external display
If you connect your
own external moni-
tor or television set
to the KR117M,
KR115M and
KR115, you can
view icons and
menus from a distance, and display color scores,
the lyrics of songs, your own favorite bitmap or
JPEG photos, to complete slideshows.
Versatile CD drive and
USB memory port
The versatile CD drive
built into the KR117M
and KR115M not only
plays MIDI music data
but also standard audio
CDs. Player-piano
CDs can give you
hours and hours of enjoyment on your Intelligent
Grand. And whenever you wish, you can insert
an audio CD and listen to your favorite songs.
Also, by inserting Roland’s optional USB flash
memory device into the USB memory port, you
can play SMF data and WAV data.
3D sound
Roland’s advanced 3D Surround technology
allows you to connect external speakers to your
KR Grand (KR117M, KR115M, and KR115)
and create an immersive, three-dimensional

Record your entire performance
The Intelligent Grand (KR117M, KR115M,
and KR115) comes with a new A/V Sync func-
tion that allows you to record and play back
your entire performance. You can even add your
voice to the piano sound, for example, as well as
video images. To save your performance data,
simply attach a recorder, and replay your record-
ings on your KR Grand using the automatic
keyboard-movement function if you desire
(KR117M and KR115M only). If you want to
add video images of your performance, attach a
video camera and a DVD recorder. You can
make your own music videos!
By connecting an external monitor to your
KR-Grand, you can view icons and menus
from a distance. You can also display scores
and photos, and put on slideshows.

DigiScore electronically displays

MIDI files, or songs you record yourself on the
onboard recorder. One of the most exciting fea-
tures of DigiScore is the Touch the Notes feature,
which enables you to touch a note on the screen
and instantly hear it played on the piano.
You can also drag your finger across a
series of notes and hear a whole phrase.
Easy-to-use color LCD
touchscreen
The easy-to-use central LCD touchscreen gives
you immediate command of all major features,
including DigiScore. Simply by pushing one of
the six main control buttons alongside the screen,
or by touching a button on the screen itself, you
can access a host of advanced digital functions.
Visual Lesson makes
practicing more effective
This feature enables you to check your perfor-
mance with your eyes as well as your ears. It can
make your practicing not only more effective, but
more fun as well. First choose the course that best
suits your level, and play the notes as they appear
on the screen. When you’re done, view the Check
Screen to see how you’re doing. There you will
find a numerical score that rates your accuracy in

The KR-Grand Series fea-
tures Roland’s new Solid
Progressive Hammer-
Action Keyboard with
Escapement — which perfectly matches the feel
of an acoustic grand. It provides a heavier touch
in the lower range and a lighter touch in the
upper registers. In this new version the touch is
more delicate than before, and the keys are
more solid and balanced for a genuine piano key
feel. It also produces less fingernail noise. In
addition, on the KR117M these new solid keys
feature attractive natural wood-tone sides to
enhance the visual moving-key motion.

auto-accompaniment feature. Play simple
chords with your left hand, and
Music Assistant will automati-
cally follow and ‘‘fill in’’ your
performance while you play.

Virtual Tone Wheel for the sound

KR117M, KR115M, and KR115 boast a
Virtual Tone Wheel function that provides the

Twin Piano function means

With the Twin Piano function you can split

was to fit the most important features of the KR Series into
the compact cabinet of a mini grand. Mission accomplished!
The KR111 mini grand, like every other model in the KR
Series, boasts stunningly realistic grand piano sounds. It also
comes equipped with a Progressive Hammer-Action
Keyboard, 180 Music Assistant auto-accompaniment regis-
trations, 170 high quality Music Styles, a powerful onboard
speaker system, and a simple and intuitive LCD user inter-
face. It offers the perfect balance of luxury, affordability,
functionality, and fun. This amazing instrument has rewrit-
ten the rulebook of mini-grand design.

General MIDI
General MIDI is a set of recommendations which seeks to provide a way to go beyond the
limitations of proprietary designs, and standardize the MIDI capabilities of sound generating devices.
Sound generating devices and music files that meet the General MIDI standard bear the General MIDI
logo. Music files bearing the General MIDI logo can be played back using any General MIDI sound gen-
erating unit to produce essentially the same musical performance.
General MIDI 2
The upwardly compatible General MIDI 2 recommendations pick up where the original
General MIDI left off, offering enhanced expressive capabilities, and even greater compatibility. Issues that
were not covered by the original General MIDI recommendations, such as how sounds are to be edited,
and how effects should be handled, have now been precisely defined. Moreover, the available sounds
have been expanded. General MIDI 2 compliant sound generators are capable of reliably playing back
music files that carry either the General MIDI or General MIDI 2 logo. In some cases, the conventional
form of General MIDI, which does not include the new enhancements, is referred to as ‘‘General MIDI 1’’
as a way of distinguishing it from General MIDI 2.
SMF with Lyrics
‘‘ SMF with Lyrics ’’ refers to SMFs (Standard MIDI Files) that contains lyrics. When Music Files
carrying the ‘‘ SMF with Lyrics ’’ logo are played back on a compatible device (one bearing the same logo),
the lyrics will appear in its display.
GS Format
The GS Format is Roland’s set of specifications for standardizing the performance of sound-
generating devices. In addition to including support for everything defined by General MIDI, the highly
compatible GS Format additionally offers an expanded number of sounds, provides for the editing of
sounds, and spells out many details for a wide range of extra features, including effects such as reverb
and chorus. Designed with the future in mind, the GS Format can readily include new sounds and sup-
port new hardware features when they arrive. Since it is upwardly compatible with General MIDI, Roland’s
GS Format is capable of reliably playing back GM Scores equally as well as it performs GS music files
(music files that have been created with the GS Format in mind). This product supports both the General
MIDI 2 and the GS Format, and can be used to play back music data carrying either of these logos.
XG lite
XG is a tone generator format of YAMAHA Corporation that defines the ways in which voices
are expanded or edited and the structure and type of effects, in addition to the General MIDI 1 specifi-
cation. XGlite is a simplified version of XG tone generation format. You can play back any XG music files
using an XGlite tone generator. However, keep in mind that some music files may play back differently
compared to the original files, due to the reduced set of control parameters and effects.
