ROTEX Sanicube:
Hot water indirect cylinder.
Installation and operation instructions.

Description
The ROTEX SANICUBE hot water indirect
cylinder is an entirely new product of its kind,
developed on the basis of the latest priciples
of water hygiene and heating technology. The
tank itself is a double-skinned container made
entirely of plastic. The space between the
inner wall (10) and outer wall (12) is filled with
high-insulating foam (11), resulting in a high
level of thermal insulation and minimal surface
losses The outer skin, approximately 3-4 mm
thick, is impact and shock resistant and is
therefore an effective protection against
damage. When put into operation, the storage
tank is only filled with storage water (13). The
water is entirely un-pressurized and is not
replaced while the tank is in use.
The stored water can be heated in a
variety of ways, i.e.:
1. Via a metal-pipe heat exchanger containing
heating water (3) (supplied by an oil-, gas-
or solid fuel fired boiler) or from other heat
sources such as a solar heating system.
2. By means of an electric immersion heater
(2, 4 or 6 kW) (4).
3. By a sanitary water heat pump (8).
The sanitary water is heated in a plastic-pipe
heat exchanger (9) which occupies the entire
depth of the tank and is completely surrounded
by the storage water. In this case, the sanitary
water is not heated and stored in a large-
capacity tank (as with most conventional hot
water tanks), but is contained inside a pipe.
The heat is not stored in the sanitary water,
but in the stored water from which it is
entirely separated.

Advantages
The SANICUBE tank is a combination of a hot
water indirect cylinder and instantaneous
water heater. In this entirely new design
concept lie the special advatages of the
SANICUBE tank:
Hygienically optimised water
With the SANICUBE hot water indirect
cylinder, slow-flowing or inadequately heated
volumes of sanitary water are avoided
altogether. Deposits of sludge, rust or other
sediments, which can occur in large-capacity
tanks, cannot arise. In addition, the water
which is stored first is also discharged first
(first-in-first-out principle). The hygienic
advantages of the SANICUBE tank are
considerable.
Corrosion and maintenance free
The storage tank and the sanitary water heat
exchanger are made of plastic and are
therefore not subject to any corrosion. No
protective anode or similar corrosion inhibiting
device is necessary. With the SANICUBE tank,
maintenance operations, such as the
replacement of protective anodes or the
cleaning of the tank, are entirely unnecessary.
Minimal limescale
In the stored water compartment, it is only
possible for limescale to be deposited in the
initial phase of its use. As a result, the
immersion tube and all of the heat exchanger
pipes in the stored water remain clean. Even in
the sanitary water compartment of the
PE-X-pipe heat exchanger, the normally high
flow rates and smooth surface of the pipes
themselves prevent the accumulation of
limescale.
For hard water we recommend stopping
the pressure reduction from the general
supply to the house water supply ONCE a
year in order to flush the tank with a
higher pressure.
Economical operation
The all-round thermal insulation of the storage
tank ensures minimal losses when in
operation. The energy requirements for the hot
water generation are therefore kept at a
minimum.

Place the tank on an even and smooth floor.
Cold water
The cold water connection has to be installed
according to DIN 1988 (see illustration).
At a water pressure of more than 4 bars you
need a pressure reducer. The operational pres-
sure must be adjusted to max. 4 bars.

Hot water installation
Basically, generators of sanitary water should
be placed as near as possible to the bleeding
points. Even when the bleeding points are not
that near you can often do it without a circula-
tion line If it is impossible to avoid a circula-
tion line you can install it according to the illu-
stration 1. To minimize the heat losses, all the
hot water pipes must be carefully insulated.
Lime arising is flushed out with the hot water
of the PE-X heat exchanger. If the water is very
hard (harder then 10° dH) it is advisable to
install a filter within the warm water pipe
after the SANICUBE. Otherwise the lime ari-
sing can block up the percolators at the blee-
ding points.
When first putting into operation the
following is to do:
1. Place the tank.
2. Connect the cold water supply pipe
according to DIN 1988.
3. Connect the hot water supply pipe.
4. Adjust the pressure reducer to 4 bars.
5. Open the hot water bleeding points, fill the
pipes and flush them.
6. Connect the metal pipe heat exchanger to
the boiler.
7. When intended, install the sanitary water
heat pump WP 400, (See WP 400 installation)
8. Fill the SANICUBE with cold water until the
level indicator is between >Min.< and
>Max.<.
By unscrewing the thermometer plunge
bush you can use the upper screwing on
the side as an overflow.
9. If required connect the electric immersion
heater.
To avoid a possible discharge by gravity circu-
lation, a nonreturn valve must be installed wit-
hin the loading circuit. Generally it has to be
observed that the heating water temperature
in loading mode is higher than the adjusted
nominal temperature of the SANICUBE.
Loading regulation
If the SANICUBE is heated up with a boiler, the
boiler integrated regulation, with the sanitary
water priority, can be used to control the
storage load pump. Therefore the sanitary
water sensor is inserted (approx. 1 m) into the
plunge pipe of the SANICUBE. If such a
regulation does not exist, or when other heat
sources e.g. solid fuel fired boiler or solar
absorber are used, the loading pump can be
controlled by the LR 2.
Heat exchanger
SANICUBE is available in 3 versions.
All 3 types have the same metal pipe heat
exchanger. For different applications we offer
various heat exchangers:
SC514
With a stainless steel heat exchanger 1 x 1 m2,
content 5 l, for heating with heating water.
SC 535
With 2 stainless steel heat exchangers:
1 x 1 m2, content 5 l, for heating with heating
water
1 x 2,1 m2, content 7 l, e.g. for loading with
solar panels.
SC 500
Is heated with an electric immersion heater or
a heat pump.

Installation of the Electronic-
immersion heater
In addition to the loading possibilites with
various heat sources and energy mediums the
SANICUBE can be equiped with the following
accessories:
Electric immersion heaters:
EHS-500-1 230 V/2 kW
EHS-500-2 380 V/2, 4 and 6 kW
Both types have a screwing thread R 1 1/2".
First of all, the immersion heater must be
screwed into the thread which is placed at the
centre of the tank.
The EHS-500-1 has an integrated temperature
regulation and a limiter. It is ready to work on
delivery.
The EHS-500-2 is delivered with a separate
load regulation LR 4. This includes
temperature regulation and limiter,
thermometer and switch protection.
The LR 4 is fixed with the included metal
angles next to the plunge pipe on top. The
capillary pipe sensors are carefully inserted
into the plunge pipe (approx. 1 m).
The electrical connection of the immersion
heater and the regulation should be done
according to the enclosed wiring scheme by an
electrician. These may only be put into opera-
tion when the SANICUBE is completely
installed and filled with water.
Load regulator
To control the loading of the indirect cylinder,
we offer two types of regulators:
LR 2: to load by means of heating water -
e.g. with a boiler or remote heat.
LR 4: to load by means of an electric
immersion heater (suitable for
off-peak electricity).
All the accessories can be retrofitted at any
time and are optimally suitable to each other.
Operation
Within a period of several years, the level of
the storage water can decline to the minimum
(level indicator). In this case, the storage water
must be refilled with fresh water until the
level indicator is at the maximum.
