How to use the Transfer Bench
Place the two legs of the bench on the handled side into the bath.
When transferring onto the bench, stand with the back of your legs against the side of the bench as
close to the bath as possible, and firmly place each hand on the arm rests, if appropriate, to ensure
your body is supported and the chair is stable. Then slowly lower yourself down to sit on the edge of
the seat.
Using the support of the transfer bench handle, turn your body and slowly lift your legs over the
bath walls until both legs are in the bath, this can be done by lifting one leg at a time. Use the
transfer bench handle and the front of the seat to slide yourself across using the front lever until you
are seated in the middle of the bath.
When getting off the bench, using the arm rest and front of seat, slide across away from the bath.
Slowly lift legs over the bath wall and position yourself on the edge of the bench with your legs
close to the bath wall.
Bring the seat to an outer position
Bring your bottom to the front of the seat ensuring your feet are firmly placed flat on the floor. Place
your hands on the seat of the transfer bench, if appropriate, to push yourself into standing leading
with your head and shoulders.
Adjusting the Height
To adjust the leg length, press the button in and slide the leg piece up or down to the appropriate
notch. Your Occupational Therapist can best advise regarding the appropriate height. One leg has
extra holes, which can be adjusted to help stabilize the shower chair for uneven surfaces.
