1 General
1.1 Contents of the Instruction Manual
This Instruction Manual is part of the RUWAC machine and must
be kept immediately alongside the product, accessible at all times.
This instruction manual helps the operating personnel familiarise
themselves with the wet separator and use it for its intended
applications. It contains important information on how to operate
the wet separator safely, properly and efficiently. Observing this
information helps eliminate risk, minimise repair costs and
downtime and increase the reliability and service life of
the machine.
All persons involved in the installation, commissioning, operation,
troubleshooting and maintenance (maintenance, inspection,
repairs) of the machine must carefully read and observe this
instruction manual.
RUWAC Industriesauger GmbH assumes no liability for damage or
malfunctions caused as a result of a failure to follow the
information contained in the instruction manual!
1.2 Target group
Only personnel trained to use the RUWAC machine and familiar
with it may operate the machine. Staff responsibility in terms of
operation, set-up and maintenance procedures must be
clearly defined.
The behaviour of the machine must be monitored, and any change
that appears to be relevant to safety must be reported to the
supervisor or Safety Officer.

1.4.1 Hazard levels in Safety Precautions
DANGER
Indication of immediate danger which could result in death
or serious injury if appropriate measures are not taken.
WARNING
Indication of possible danger which could result in death or

moderate or minor injury if appropriate measures are

Handling the product will be easier if the appropriate measures

2.1 Intended use
Vacuum medium The wet separator can be used for vacuuming up dry, wet, hot,
smouldering and explosive media which may be either fine or
coarse, and for feeding back filtered air into the working area.
The wet separator is classified according to the dust classes
specified in IEC / EN 60335-2-69 and may be used to vacuum up
only dusts within the respective workplace limit values for the dust
concerned. See page 13.
To comply with the terms of the intended use, the following
measures must be complied with:
The definition of intended use given here includes reading this
instruction manual and following the instructions given in the
manual, in particular the safety precautions.
Safety devices must be serviced regularly and their correct
operation to the required safety standards checked at least
once a year.
The wet separator may only be used in industrial areas.
The wet separator may be operated only above ground.
The wet separator may be used exclusively within the
performance limits listed in section “Technical Data” on
page 27.
All inspection and maintenance operations must be performed
at the specified intervals.
The safety data sheets for the media being vacuumed up must
be complied with.

2.2 Improper use
No changes, attachments or conversions that may influence
safety may be made to the wet separator. This also applies to
installing and adjusting safety equipment and valves.
The wet separator must not be located in areas that may have
a potentially explosive atmosphere.
The stickers that are affixed may not be removed.
Damaged or illegible stickers must be replaced.
The wet separator must not be used to supply air to containers
or extract air from them.
The wet separator may be used at full vacuum only for short
periods. Longer operation at full vacuum may lead to damage
to the vacuum pump.
The wet separator must not be operated without the sealing
liquid / swirl filter / moisture separator / filter cartridges.
The wet separator must not be used to vacuum up any liquids.
The wet separator must not be operated with blocked vacuum
hoses.
The vacuuming up of objects of dust classes M and H is
permissible only if a flow velocity of at least 20 m/s is
maintained in the vacuum hose.
Never use any spare parts other than those on the Ruwac
spare parts list.
If combustible materials or reactive materials are vacuumed
up, the wet separator may be operated only when it is
equipped with effective potential equalisation and electrically
conductive vacuum accessories.
The vacuum hose of the wet separator must not be laid or
wound around the shoulder(s) or the upper part of the body.
Bodily contact with the vacuum hose must be kept to a
minimum. The vacuum hose may be guided with the hands.

2.3 Notices on the machine
The stickers shown below are affixed to the machine. If they are
damaged or illegible, they must be replaced.
The rating plate is affixed to the housing.
Replace the sticker if it is damaged or illegible.
CE mark [CE, abbreviation for Conformité Européenne]: a mark
introduced through EC law, which confirms the conformity to
(compliance with) safety requirements applicable to a product
subject to which one or more EC Directives.
Mark for the Dust class. See also page 13.
The notice alongside is attached to the wet separator.
Before the wet separator is put into operation in vacuum mode,
potential equalisation must be established and the liquid container
be checked.

2.4 Dust classes
Wet separators are divided into dust classes:
L = Low hazard
The wet separator is suitable for vacuuming up dusts that are
dry and non-hazardous to health and that have a workplace
exposure limit (WEL) of > 1 mg/m3.
M = Medium hazard, this includes class L
The wet separator is suitable for vacuuming dusts that are dry
and hazardous to health and that have a workplace exposure
limit (WEL) of > 0.1 mg/m3.
H = High hazard, this includes classes L and M
The wet separator is suitable for vacuuming dusts that are dry,
carcinogenic and otherwise hazardous to health and that have
a workplace exposure limit (WEL) of < 0.1 mg/m3.
The wet separator is suitable for dust class H.

2.5 Personnel requirements
Only personnel trained to use the wet separator and familiar with it
may operate it. Staff responsibility in terms of operation, set-up and
performance of maintenance procedures must be clearly defined.
The operator must immediately report any safety critical faults
which occur on the wet separator to the person responsible
for safety.
The Instruction Manual gives details of the target groups and
qualifications for various activities.
Operating personnel The operating personnel are instructed by the operating company
regarding the tasks they are to perform and the potential hazards
in the event of improper behaviour.
Specialist personnel Specialist personnel, because of their technical education,
specialist knowledge and experience, coupled with their
outstanding knowledge of the applicable regulations, are in a
position to perform the work entrusted them and to recognise and
avoid potential hazards. This applies in particular to electricians.
2.6 Personal protective equipment
Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (e.g. dust
mask, protective gloves, protective goggles) when working on the
filter unit and on the liquid container.
2.7 Safety devices
The wet separator may be operated only when all the safety
devices supplied are fitted and in good working order!
The following safety devices are fitted, depending on the version of
the wet separator:

2.8 Residual risks
2.8.1 Installation and storage
Always empty and clean the machine before removing it from
service or storing it.
Always place the machine on a level floor before removing it
from service or storing it.
Secure the machine against rolling away (apply the
parking brakes).
Always place the machine on a floor with sufficient
load-carrying capacity before removing it from service.
See section “Technical Data” on page 27 for data on the
machine weight.
On finishing work, always store or place the machine in a
well-ventilated area.
Ambient conditions
Storage (in the emptied and cleaned condition)
Temperature: 0°C to +30°C
Atmospheric humidity: 30% to 95%, non-condensing
Operation (in the filled and operationally ready condition)
Temperature: 5°C to +30°C
Atmospheric humidity: 30% to 95%, non-condensing
DANGER
Evolution of flammable gases
On finishing work, always store or place the wet separator
in a well-ventilated area. Depending on the materials
vacuumed up, flammable gases such as hydrogen may
be evolved.
Use a suitable sealing liquid that does not promote the
evolution of flammable gases / foam or other chemical
reactions.
Before using the wet separator, always check the
degasification valve for correct operation.

2.8.2 Work on electrical components
Unplug at the mains before performing maintenance work.
Improper work on live components could result in electrocution
with loss of life.
All covers, housings etc. related to electrical components may
only be opened by authorised qualified electricians for the
purpose of carrying out maintenance and repair work.
The wet separator must not be operated without its cladding
Never remove the affixed stickers from the wet separator.
2.8.3 Moving parts All moving parts are covered by fixed guards.
If an item of cladding is removed and the wet separator is
operated, there is a risk of injury. The wet separator may not be
operated without cladding.
2.8.4 Cleaning The wet separator may be cleaned only with water or standard
commercially available cleaning agents.
The liquid container (including the viewing window) of the wet
separator must be emptied and cleaned after every shift / after the
end of work.
If the vacuumed up material is incompatible with cleaning agents,
hazards may arise.
A check must be made to ensure the material vacuumed up will
not react chemically with the cleaning agents used or with water.
The person cleaning the wet separator must wear appropriate
personal protective equipment.

3 Setup and function
3.1 Description
The wet separator is suitable for vacuuming up dry, wet, hot,
smouldering and explosive media which may be either fine or
coarse, and for feeding back filtered air into the working area.
The dusty medium is vacuumed up via the unfiltered gas
connection (3) and the dip tube (1) into the sealing liquid of the
liquid container (2). The medium that is vacuumed up is wetted by
the sealing liquid and bonded to it. The resulting sediment settles
in the bottom of the liquid container. The air flows on through the
moisture separator (4) to the filter cartridges (5). Droplets of water
are separated out by the moisture separator (4) and are retained in
the liquid container (2). Residual particles of the vacuumed up
medium are separated out by the moisture separator (4) and the
filter cartridges (5). The filtered air is discharged from the filter
output side of the moisture separator.
