Ultrafeed Machine Damage Prevention
To prevent damage and keep your machine running smoothly,
please observe the following when sewing:
• Lower the presser foot before sewing (A)�
• Always rotate the balance wheel toward you (B)�
• Trap your threads when beginning to sew to avoid a rat’s nest of tangled thread (C)�
• Take-up arm (D) should reach its uppermost position and then start to descend before lifting the foot to remove application�
• With the machine threaded, don’t operate the machine without fabric under the foot.
WorkerB®Motor System Warnings:
• Electrical items exceeding 100 watts should not be used in the control box outlet� Exceeding this limit may blow the
control box fuse�
• Do not plug/unplug the foot control with the control box switched on� This could cause the machine to run
unexpectedly�
• Always use a grounded outlet�
• Don’t use a plug adapter or extension cord without a grounded plug.
• WorkerB Power Pack is designed to work on inverter/generator of 400W or more of the Modied Sine Wave or Square
Wave types� Pure (or Digital Synthesized Wave) Inverters/generators will not work�

• Turn off the motor when servicing, changing needle or
feet, or leaving the machine unattended�
• Do not operate in conditions where you or the machine
are or may become wet�
• Operate the machine on a rm, level surface with
adequate room for safe operation.
• Observe caution when placing your hands, other body
parts or clothing near any moving parts including but
not limited to the walking foot, needle, balance wheel
and belts�
• Do not run the machine without its covers in place�
• Do not stop the movement of the balance wheel with
your hands�
• Always use the proper voltage required for the motor.
• Do not drop the machine�
• Wear protective eyewear when sewing�
• Wear shoes when operating the foot pedal�
• Provide supervision when allowing others to use the
machine, particularly children and those who are
unfamiliar with the machine’s operation.
• Do not use the machine around ammable materials.
• Do not use a plug adapter or extension cord that
bypasses the ground pin�
• When plugging the foot control wiring into the
machine, be cautious to connect the receptacles
correctly to avoid electric shock�
• Always rotate the balance wheel by grabbing the
top of the wheel and rotating toward the front of the
machine�

Preparing to Sew
Choosing Thread Size
The key to a successful sewing project is pairing your needle with the right size of thread�
Improperly matching needle and thread sizes can result in tension issues, skipped stitches
and even broken needles� Refer to the chart below to make sure you are using the correct
size combinations�

1� Turn on the power pack (A)�
2� Adjust the speed setting by rotating the dial�
a� Turn the dial toward the “-” sign
for the slowest setting�
b� Turn the dial toward the “+” sign
for the fastest setting�

Needle Types
Ultrafeed Sewing Machines require 135x17 or 135x16 needles sizes #10 to
#22, all available at Sailrite®�
SD1 needles are optimized for ne leather; they also work
well for sewing heavy sailcloth assemblies� The needle
partially cuts, then pushes material bers out of the way.
Ball Point needles are specically designed for use with knit
or stretchy materials� The blunt tip on this needle passes
thread between material bers instead of through them.
SAN 5�2 needles can sew the same materials as Round/
Sharp Point needles but with fewer issues such as
deection, needle breakage and material damage. They are
ideal for sewing slippery threads like PTFE or lifetime thread
and are more resistant to needle gumming from basting tape�
DI needles have large, diamond-shaped cutting points
that easily sew heavy, dry and hard leather� They
produce straight seams with recessed stitches� These
needles are best for sewing medium to long stitches�
Twist Point needles have oval-shaped cutting points
that are twisted 45 degrees from the needle eye�
They are best for sewing short to medium stitches in
light to medium-hard leather� These needles produce
decorative seams of slanted, slightly elevated stitches
that closely mimic the look of hand stitching�
Perpendicular Point needles have wide, at cutting
points that are perpendicular to the direction of
sewing� They can sew very strong seams in light
to heavy leather� They produce decorative seams
of slanted, recessed stitches� These needles are
best for sewing very short to short stitches�
Triangular Point needles have sharp, three-sided
cutting points that easily sew thick or hard leather� They
produce seams with slightly elevated stitches� These
needles are best for sewing medium to long stitches�
Round/Sharp Point needles are used for all general
sewing� Serv7 needles are modied Round Point
needles that have an extended shoulder to prevent
skipped stitches and reduce needle breakage�

To help verify that the needle is correctly installed,
look through the hole on either side of the needle
bar just above the needle screw� The butt of the
needle should be pressed against the solid portion
of the needle bar. If it isn’t, loosen the needle screw
and push the needle farther up until it stops moving�

Ultrafeed needles are round on top, unlike home sewing machine needles� As a result, proper installation must be exercised
carefully� The needles have two sides: the long channel side with a groove running the needle length and the side with a short
scarf (A) (i�e�, a carved-out area) above the needle eye�
1� Push the needle all the way up into the needle bar (B)�
2� Rotate the needle so the scarf (A) faces the right as you face the front of the machine�
3� Tighten the needle screw (C)�

How to Install Center & Outside Feet
1� With the foot raised, rotate the balance wheel
so that the outside foot is at its highest position�
Loosen the screw enough to slip off the foot
(A); screw does not need to be removed.
2� Rotate the balance wheel so the needle is
at its highest position and then remove the
center foot (B)� Screw must be removed�
NOTE: If installing a feed dog, jump to “How to
Install a Feed Dog” before proceeding to step 3�
3� With the needle at its highest position, install
the center foot (B) and tighten its screw�
4� To install the outside foot, rotate the balance
wheel so the outside foot bracket is at its highest
position� Slide the outside foot underneath the
screw and push it up so it rests rmly against the
bracket and loosely tighten the screw (A)�
5� Lower the foot and rotate the balance
wheel until the needle is in its highest
position� Firmly tighten the screw (A)�
How to Install a Feed Dog
1� Unscrew and remove the needle plate (C) from the
machine bed� This will expose the feed dog (D)�
2� Unscrew (E) and remove the old feed dog from the
machine bed�
3� Install the new feed dog (F) and loosely tighten the
screws� The feed dog should be able to slightly move
side to side�
4� Lay the needle plate (C) over the feed dog (F)�
Check to see whether the feed dog is straight in
the needle plate slots (G)� Adjust as needed, then
remove the needle plate and nish tightening the
feed dog screws�
5� Reinstall the needle plate and screws into the
machine bed�
NOTE: Follow steps 3-5 of “How to Install Center &
Outside Feet” to reinstall the center and outside foot�

The Posi-Pin Safety Shear is a sacricial pin that ts through a hole in the
balance wheel face and into a mating hole in the balance wheel bushing� It
locks these components together to operate the machine and power the needle�
Why Is the Posi-Pin So Important?
This revolutionary piece of sewing machine technology is patented by Sailrite®
and can only be found on Sailrite sewing machines� Its main purpose is to prevent
internal damage in the event that the machine jams, the needle collides with
something impenetrable or a bind occurs� Turn to the next page to learn more about
how the Posi-Pin protects your Ultrafeed Sewing Machine�
What Is the Posi-Pin®Safety Shear?
Designed to Protect Your Machine
In the event of a bind or machine jam, the pin will break at the shear point (A), preventing the machine from operating,
when there is too much resistance on the machine� This prevents internal damage or misalignment� If the Posi-Pin
breaks, simply remove the broken pin, replace it with a new one and check the cap spring for damage (p� 38, 56)� Then
install a new needle (p� 7) and verify that the needle bar height has not shifted (p� 45)� You can then continue sewing
without issue�
NOTE: When the Ultrafeed is not being used, remove the Posi-Pin and place it in the Posi-Pin Keeper (B) or the storage cubby
(C)� This is to prevent the compression shaft from enduring unnecessary deformity over time�

Winding Bobbins
Disengage the Clutch
To disengage the machine, pull the Posi-Pin®Safety Shear (A) out of the balance wheel (B)� The balance wheel will now
rotate without operating the machine� Push the pin into the hole at the center of the Posi-Pin nut (C) to store�
Thread the Bobbin on the Machine
1� Thread comes off the top of cone (D) to the thread
stand arm (E)�
2� Pass thread through a hole in the spool pin (F) (most
direct route to bobbin tensioner)�
For home sewing, refer to “NOTE” on p�15�
3� Wrap thread around bobbin tensioner (G)�
4� Run under and up through a hole in top of bobbin
(H)� Place bobbin on post and push to the right� Hold
onto thread tail briey and power machine with the
clutch disengaged to wind bobbin� Stop after several
rotations and cut the thread tail off ush with the
bobbin side�
5� Continue winding until the bobbin is full� Then remove
the bobbin from the winder post by pushing the post
to the left and pulling the bobbin off� Cut the thread�
Engage the Clutch
To continue sewing, push the Posi-Pin (A) through one
of the holes in the balance wheel (I) (any will work)�
While maintaining light pressure on the Posi-Pin, rotate
the balance wheel (J) until the Posi-Pin locks into one
of the holes in the bushing that the balance wheel rides
on� Push the Posi-Pin all the way in until the shoulder is
ush against the balance wheel. Rotating the balance
wheel will now cause the machine to function�
CAUTION: Do not overll bobbin and force into
bobbin case or the machine will not function correctly�

I
It’s faster to wind while you sew!
Run thread to the bobbin winder from an extra cone of
thread� Simply place the second cone beside the primary
cone and lead the thread up through the same guides�
Follow normal bobbin winding instructions but do not
disengage the clutch�

21 Threading the Machine
1� Thread comes off the top of the cone
(A) to the thread stand arm (B)�
2� Pass the thread through one hole in
the spool pin (C) using the most direct
route to the bobbin tensioner (D)�
NOTE: For home sewing, use the spool pin
(C) to hold the thread spool (E)� Make sure the
spool is rotating clockwise to ensure the spool
pin it rides on is tightened, not loosened�
3� Pass through pig tail of bobbin tensioner (D)�
4� Loop through ear holes going down through
the rightmost hole, skipping middle hole,
and bringing thread around front and down
again through the leftmost hole (F)�
5� Thread through upper tension assembly (shown
without cover knob) (G)� Make sure lift lever
(H) is raised up to release tension plates (I) so
thread can pass through� Be sure to catch the
hooked spring end (J) with the thread last�
6� Pass through take-up arm (right to left) (K) and
then under the end cover (L)� Make sure the
thread goes behind the small metal pip (M)�
7� Pass through the needle bar thread guide hole (N)
and then down through the needle eye from left
to right (O)� Finally, pass the thread through the
hole in the presser foot from top to bottom (P)�
