Mini Grinder
Salton GC-5 Mini Grinder is designed to fit
perfectly in your hand or rest on your counter-
top. The specially designed grinding chamber
insures that your coffee is ground evenly from
whole beans to a fine ground in a matter of
seconds, an essential ingredient for an aromatic
cup of coffee.

IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS
When using your Salton GC-5 Mini Grinder or any electrical
appliance, these basic safety precautions should always be
followed;
1. Read all instructions.
2. DO NOT IMMERSE GRINDER IN WATER OR OTHER
LIOUID.
3. Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is used by
or near children.
4. Unplug from outlet when not in use...when removing or put
ting on parts...before cleaning.
5. Avoid contacting moving parts.
6. DO NOT operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug
or after the appliance has been dropped or damaged in any
manner. . .return appliance to Salton/MAXIM Housewares
INC. for examination.
7. The use of accessories or attachments not recommepded by
Salton/MAXIM Housewares INC. may cause hazards.
8. DO NOT use outdoors.
9. DO NOT let cord hang over edge of table or counter, or touch
hot surfaces.
10. Before using, make sure no foreign objects are in the
container.
11. DO NOT PLACE IN DISHWASHER.
SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS

Salton GC-5 Mini Grinder will grind a variety of ingredients from
coffee to peppercorns. It is easy to operate and clean yet small
enough to store easily. The high speed, cutting blade and
especially designed stainless steel bowl assure uniform grinding.
COFFEE BEANS
Salton GC-5 Mini Grinder will hold 1/3 cup coffee beans at a time
for grinding.. .this will give you approximately 8 level tablespoons of
ground coffee., .consult your coffee maker instructions for your par
ticular coffee machine and then adjust to your own taste.. .Press the
cover down for approximately 15-20 seconds for fine grind.. .less for
a coarser grind. Experimenting with the length of grind will enable
you to get exactly the grind you prefer for your coffee. A fine grind
exposes more surface to the water and therefore a more rapid rate
of extraction of flavor...a coarser grind which exposes little surface
is appropriate for the longer brewing cycle of percolators...check
your coffee maker instructions for the type of grind that is best.
For the freshest, most flavorable cup of coffee, grind only enough
coffee for the pot you are making...if you are making a large pot,
you may need to grind in two batches. Coffee beans will keep up
to 2 months in the freezer (in an airtight container) and can be
ground while still frozen. Fresh beans will yield the best flavor and
aroma.
GRINDING OTHER THINGS
Once you find out all the other things you can grind in the Salton
GC-5 Mini Grinder, you may want to purchase a second...one for
coffee only...the second for grinding other things.
SPICES
Herbs and spices take on a fresh, more flavorable taste when
freshly ground. Dried herbs can be combined and ground for a few
seconds giving them more flavor. Peppercorns when freshly
ground, taste totally different from canned pre-ground pepper.
Spices such as allspice...cardamon. ..celery seed...mustard
seed...coriander seed...grind very well.

NUTS
The Salton GC-5 Mini Grinder has a 1/3 cup capacity and will in five
seconds produce finely ground nuts great for adding to
recipes.. .for coarser nuts, use short bursts of grinding.
NOT RECOMMENDED
The Mini Grinder will grind most dry or brittle substances. It WILL
NOT grind anything which is moist, gummy or extremely hard
(Chocolate.. .whole nutmeg.. .candied ginger.. .etc.). It will not make
pastes of any kind from seeds such as sunflower or sesame.
Grinding cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg is not advised as the oils
and hardness can cause the plastic cover to pitt, discolor or
crack...grains such as corn, wheat, rice, barley and rye may also
cause damage to the cover. Chopping, mincing or pureeing of soft
foods is not recommended.
MAINTENANCE AND CLEANING
DO NOT IMMERSE THE MOTOR BASE IN WATER...DO NOT
PLACE THE GRINDER IN THE DISHWASHER.
To clean, unplug the unit...simply wipe the blades...stainless steel
bowl...exterior with a damp cloth or paper towel to remove any ex
cess ground coffee or ground foods.
Use a small dry brush to help dislodge dry particles of food.
The cover should be washed in warm soapy water, rinsed and
completely dried.
Make sure to clean completely after each use to prevent flavors
from one food being transferred to the next. Make sure you check
under the blades as food can collect there. A quick trick...to make
sure the bowl is clean and no food remains under the blade...with
the cover in place and the bowl empty, turn the grinder on.. .this will
dislodge any stubborn food particles.
For stubborn odors...fill the stainless steel bowl with dry baking
soda...place the cover on it and leave overnight.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
Before using your Salton GC-5 Mini Grinder for the first time..,wipe
the stainless steel bowl.. .blades. ..and cover with a damp
cloth...make sure it is completely dry.
1. Remove cover, make sure the grinder is empty and clean.
2. Place coffee or other foods (not to exceed 1/3 cup. ..approx
imately 1 oz. weighed at a time) into the stainless steel bowl.
3. Place the cover on the grinder.
4. Plug in the grinder.
5. Hold the grinder with one hand and making sure the cover is
securely in place, press down on the cover with the other
hand. . .DO NOT OPERATE WITHOUT THE COVER IN
PLACE.. .if you should release the pressure from the top of the
grinder it will automatically stop.
6. When you have reached the desired grind, release the
cover.. .DO NOT REMOVE THE COVER UNTIL THE
BLADES COME TO A COMPLETE STOP...you may wish to
grind a little, then check to see if it is the way you want, then
grind more if necessary...if additional grinding is necessary,
just repeat the above steps.. .up to 60 seconds at a time.. .the
grinder should not be run for longer than one minute at a time.
7. When the blades have stopped.. .unplug the grinder.. .remove
the cover and the ground food.
8. Clean according to directions.
9. The Salton GC-5 Mini Grinder was especially designed for
HOUSEHOLD USE ONLY.

LIMITED WARRANTY
Machines distributed by Salton/MAXIM Housewares Group are
warranted for one year from date of purchase against defects in
wordmanship and material. During that period these defects will be
repaired or the product will be replaced at Salton/MAXIM's option,
without charge. This warranty covers normal consumer usage and
does not cover damage which occurs in shipment or failure which
resulfs from alteration, accident, misuse, abuse, neglect, installation,
commercial use or improper maintenance. This warranty is effective
only if the product is purchased and operated in the USA, and does
not extend to any units which have been used in violation of wrtten
instructions furnished by Salton/MAXIM Housewares INC. or to
units which have been altered or modified without authorization of
Salton/MAXIM Housewares INC. or to damage to products or parts
thereof which have had the serial number removed, altered, defaced
or rendered illegible.
Service and Repair
DO NOT attempt to repair your Salton GC-5 Mini Grinder. Should the appliance mal
function, you should first call toll free 1-800-233-9054 between the hours of 9:00 am and
5:00 pm Central Standard Time and ask for CONSUMER CUSTOMER SERVICE stating
that you are a consumer with a problem. If the problem cannot be resolved, you will be
asked to return the machine to the factory for repair. Under no circumstances should you
attempt to open the housing and repair the machine. Should you do this, your warranty
will be voided
