Thank you for purchasing a Japanese Myojin Style Torii Gate from SamsGazebos. Assembling it may take 45 minutes and an
hour to set with cement. Minimum two persons are recommended to assemble this item for your safety. Please work on a
clean level floor for the best result. Remove the wrapping material, prepare the tools and material, and lay out the parts before
assembly in order to save you time and effort. Each kit is custom built with pilot holes for your convenience. Wash hands after
handling. Handle with care; poles are round and heavy.

◇Measure Tape
◇Shovel
◇Minimum 4 bags of ready mix cement (Get extra bags of cement for large holes.)
◇Wheelbarrow or container to mix cement
◇Water
◇Nitrile Gloves (included)
◇2 Strings (included)
◇Hardware (two 1/2” x 8”lag bolts with washers, 4 large screws (2-1/2”), 22 small screws (1-5/8”)(included)

1. Making two holes for Torii poles. Remember that you
need to set minimum 6” with cement.(See marks on posts.)
Minimum hole dimen-
sions :
12” W x 12”L x 18” D
3. Place poles with a hole at top and check which side is in
or out with a square; Torii poles are slightly inclined out-
ward and mark OUT for a short side and IN for the other.
4. Place two poles outside out.
5. Insert a NUKI through pole holes. Do it one pole
(HASHIRA) at a time.
6. Put a bottom KASAGI. Match the alphabet/number.

Check which side is in or
out and mark them
accordingly.
2. Place two wood blocks in the holes. Put an extra wood
board at top to check the level; it will facilitate the Torii
installation. Remove the wood blocks.
ATTENTION:
*Take time to check the
LEVEL; it is very difficult to
correct the Torii position
later.

9. Fit two GAKUZUKA (wider side at top) between the bot-
tom KASAGI and NUKI and fasten them with small screws.

12. Insert two KUSABI into a hole to fill the gap.
8. Alternatively, you can also do the step 7 with the Torii
on the ground.

11. Fasten a temporary wood board with large screws
where marked.

10. Insert cement frames and tie them to the NUKI. Skip
this step if you prefer not to use them.

7. Fasten the bottom KASAGI and the HASHIRA poles with
lag bolts from top.

17. Fasten the Top KASAGI and Bottom KASAGI with small
screws. Fasten the GAKUZUKA and the NUKI.
16. Put the Top KASAGI.
18. Pour mixed concrete into the holes and insert the
poles. Check the level and adjust the pole positions if it is
not level.
19. Check the level from front or back. Adjust the pole
positions if not level.
20. Untie the strings to pull down the cement frames, put
them at the bottom, and finish the cement work. Remove
the extra wood board at the bottom when the cement is
cured.
15. Gently hammer both KUSABI at the same time until a
part of the KUSABI fills the hole; it will permanently lock the
NUKI in place. Do the same for the other side of the NUKI.
IMPORTANT:
It is EXTREMLY important
that you set each side of
Torii LEVEL.

RECOMMENDED FINISHES
This product is treated with oil-based semi-transparent brown wood preservative. The color of the wood
preservative is not permanent, will show trace of green from Copper and turn to light brown over time.

R BROWN wood preservative is available at your local Home Depot ○ Rfor a darker, rustic
look.
Finishing with a deck stain is highly recommended; it is a matt finish will look same for 5 to 10 years.

R Premium paint is primer and paint in a can, available at Home Depot○ R if you prefer gross or semi-
gross finish.

Torii CARE AND USE
This product is made for a gate. This is not a structure to climb.
Do not leave it without permanent installation.
