Charging the battery
Chargethebatterybeforeusingthisdeviceforthefirsttimeorifyouhaven'tuseditfor
alongtime.
TheACChargerisoptional.UsetheSoftBank-approvedACChargerMicroUSB
1.0A(ZTDAC1)orMicroUSB1.8A(ZTDAD1).SeetheSoftBankWebsitefor
otherperipheraldevices.IfyouuseanunapprovedACCharger,itmaycause
theInternalBatterytoexplodeordamagethedevice.
•
Whenthebatterypowerislow,thebatteryiconappearsempty.
•
Ifthebatteryiscompletelydischarged,thedevicecannotbeturnedon
immediatelywhentheACChargerisconnected.Allowadepletedbatteryto
chargeforafewminutesbeforeturningonthedevice.
•
Ifyouusemultipleapplicationsatonce,orapplicationsthatneeda
connectiontoanotherdevice,thebatterywilldrainquickly.Toavoid
disconnectingfromthenetworkorlosingpowerduringadatatransfer,
alwaysusetheseapplicationsafterfullychargingthebattery.

ThissectionexplainshowtochargethebatteryusingtheACChargerMicroUSB1.0A
(ZTDAC1)asanexample.

ChecktheACCharger'susermanualbeforeusingit.
•
NeverconnecttheMicroUSBplugifthisdeviceortheACChargerarewet.
ConnecttheMicroUSBplugoftheACChargertothemultipurposePortonthisdevice
andinsertthepowerplugintoahouseholdACpowersocket.
ConnectingtheACCharger(optional)improperlymaycauseseriousdamageto
thedevice.Anydamagecausedbymisuseisnotcoveredbythewarranty.

Thedevicecanbeusedwhileitischarging,butitmaytakelongertofully
chargethebattery.
•
Ifthedevicereceivesanunstablepowersupplywhilecharging,theDisplay
maynotfunction.Ifthishappens,unplugtheACChargerfromthedevice.
•
Whilecharging,thedevicemayheatup.Thisisnormalandshouldnotaffect
thedevice’slifespanorperformance.Ifthebatterygetshotterthanusual,the
ACChargermaystopcharging.
•
Ifthedeviceisnotchargingproperly,takethedeviceandtheACChargerto
aSoftBankShop.
Afterfullycharging,disconnectthedevicefromtheACCharger.FirstunplugtheAC
Chargerfromthedevice,andthenunplugitfromtheelectricsocket.
Opening the battery charge status
Whenyouchargethebatterywhilethedeviceisoff,thefollowingiconswillshowthe
currentbatterychargestatus:

Yourdeviceprovidesoptionsthathelpyousavebatterypower.Bycustomizingthese
optionsanddeactivatingfeaturesinthebackground,youcanusethedevicelonger

Whenyouarenotusingthedevice,switchtosleepmodebyPressingthePower/Screen
lockKey.
•
Cancelunnecessaryapplicationswiththetaskmanager.
•
DeactivatetheBluetoothfeature.
•
DeactivatetheWi-Fifeature.
•
Deactivateauto-syncingofapplications.
•
Decreasethebacklighttime.
•
DecreasethebrightnessoftheDisplay.

Inserting a SD Card
YourdeviceacceptsSDCardswithmaximumcapacitiesof64GB.DependingontheSD
Cardmanufacturerandtype,someSDCardsmaynotbecompatiblewiththisdevice.
•
SomeSDCardsmaynotbefullycompatiblewiththedevice.Usingan
incompatiblecardmaydamagethedeviceortheSDCard,orcorruptthe
datastoredinit.
•
UsecautionininsertingtheSDCardright-sideup.
•
ThedevicesupportstheFATandtheexFATfilesystemsforSDCards.When
insertingacardformattedinadifferentfilesystem,thedeviceasksto
reformattheSDCard.
•
FrequentwritinganderasingofdatashortensthelifespanofSDCards.
•
WheninsertingaSDCardintothedevice,theSDCard’sfiledirectoryappears
inthe SD card folder.

fromthemisuseofdamagedSDCards,includingthelossofdata.
Formatting the SD Card
ASDCardformattedonacomputermaynotbecompatiblewiththedevice.Format
theSDCardonthedevice.
OntheHomescreen,Tap → Settings → General → Storage → Format SD card →
Format SD card → Delete all .
BeforeformattingtheSDCard,remembertomakebackupcopiesofall
importantdatastoredonthedevice.Themanufacturer’swarrantydoesnot
coverlossofdataresultingfromuseractions.

Press&HoldthePower/ScreenlockKeyforafewsecondstoturnonthedevice.
•
Followallwarningsanddirectionsfromauthorizedpersonnelinareaswhere
theuseofwirelessdevicesisrestricted,suchasairplanesandhospitals.
•
Press&HoldthePower/ScreenlockKeyandTap Airplane mode → OK to
disablethewirelessfeatures.
Toturnoffthedevice,Press&HoldthePower/ScreenlockKey,andthenTap Power off 
→ OK .

Locking and unlocking the device
Whennotinuse,lockthedevicetopreventunwantedoperation.PressingthePower/
ScreenlockKeyturnsofftheDisplayandputsthedeviceintolockmode.Thedevice
automaticallygetslockedifitisnotusedforaspecifiedperiod.
Tounlockthedevice,PressthePower/ScreenlockKeyortheHomeKeywhenthe
Displayisturnedoff,Tapanywhereonthescreen,andthenFlickyourfingerinany
direction.
Adjusting the volume
PresstheVolumeKeyupordowntoadjustthesoundvolumewhenplayingmusicor
video.
Switching to silent mode
Useoneofthefollowingmethods:
•
Press&HoldtheVolumeKeydownuntilitswitchestosilentmode.
•
Press&HoldthePower/ScreenlockKey,andthenTap Mute or Vibrate .
•
DragtounderneaththeStatusbarandopentheNotificationswindow,thenTap
Sound or Vibrate .
