of SAMSUNG's Authorized Service Stations can be obtained from the place
of purchase.

Your neVI BT 316NR relevision Set is a
p rec1s1on en gm ee r ed , po rt able, receiver
that incorporates numerous exclus iv e fea -
tures and latest advancement in electronic
technology.
The picture tube employs an implosion-
proof, tinted face-plate.
The electrontc circuits are designed to
provide safeguards against interference,
noise, and changing signal strength in
order
to maintain a constantly clear and
stable pict u re at all times. An earphone is
available at your dealer as an optional
accessory.
Installation
CONNECT .....Receiver to an outlet sup·
plying 120 volts, 60 Hertz, alternating
current (AC) only .
FOLLOW.....1nstructions on all tags and
labels before attempting to operate your
receiver.
CHECK.....To see that the antenna leads
are connected to the antenna terminals at
the back
of set.

Antenna Connections
Good television reception depends upon
many factors. Naturally the signal must
possess suffi cient strength, but if the
terrain between the transmi
tting station
and the television
set is uneven, a strong
transmitter signal does not necessarily
guarantee a clear picture . Th1s happens
because a
TV signal traveb in a straight
line, and obstructions in its path wtll
distort or "bend" it .
If there are no obstructions in the path of
the television signals, a good pictures can
be received at a greater distance.
In some areas multiple images ("ghosts")
will resu It from the reflection of the
signal from objects in the vicinity of your
antenna (See illustration below).
These secondary images can often be
minimized or eliminated by the proper
positioning of your antenna. If you live in
a
difficult reception area , or if you
experience
diff iculties consult your
dealer.
If you intend to use a previously installed
antenna, check it carefully . Weather can
destroy the effectiveness
of the antenna
and lead-in
wire .
"GHOSTS"
VHF ANTENNA
The telescopic antenna on your ;eceiver ts
designed to perform as well as any indoor
antenna and will provide an excellent
picture in most areas . For best reception,

it can be adju~ted to virtually any pos•
t1on by extending
or collapsing -and / or
tilting the rod. Adjust the dntenna by
varying the length and angle of the rod
until the clearest picture 1s obtained .
In some areas it will be necessary to use
an outdoor antenna Consult your dealer
for the best antenna to use in your area.
When
an outdoor VHF antenna is used,
disconnect the telescopic antenna leads
from the screws and connect the lead-in
wire from an outdoor antenna to the
antenna terminals.
UHF ANTENNA
The loop antenna attached to your re -
ceiver will provide an excellent picture
in most areas. For be:;t reception, rotate
and/ or tilt this antenna to any position .
When
it is necessary to use an outdoor
UHF antenna. consult your dealer.
General Operation
ON-OFF/VOLUME .....Rotate this control
rightward to turn set on and to adjust
volume .
VHF CHANNEL SELECTOR (2-13)
selects the station to be viewed. Rotate
the control clockwise or counterclock
w1se to des1reo .:nannel number.
VHF FINE TUNING tunes in the VHF
statio,, selected, for the clearest sound
and
picture . Rotate this control slowlv in
either
direction until interference appears
and
picture begins to fade. Then rotate in
the opposite
direction until sharpest
picture and clearest sound are obtained.
UHF CHANNEL SELECTOR (14-83)
.....Rotate VHF CHANNEL SELECTOR
to "U " position . Rotate UHF CHANNEL
SELECTOR u. ntil desired channel· number
is aligned with the indicator. (Press and)
turn the UHF FINE TUNING knob
slowly clockwise or counterclockwise
until sound and picture are properly
adjusted.
CONTRAST provides the proper contrast
between the black and
white portions of
the picture . Properly adjusted, it will be
possible to observe a gradation between
blacks, grays and whites in the picture .
BRIGHTNESS determines the brilliance
of the picture and is adjusted in conjunc-
tion with the CONTRAST control.

VERTICAL HOLD (Located on back of
set) stops any up or down movement of
the picture. See VERTICAL PICTURE
MOTION photo at right.
HORIZONTAL HOLD (Located on back
of set) corrects any slant in g of the
picture.

ON -OFF/VOLUME
VERTICAL PICTURE MOTION
When the picture rolls up or down on the
screen, adjust VERTICAL HOLD control,
located at the
rear side of cabinet, until
there is a single steady picture.
HORIZONTAL BARS
When the picture has slanting horizontal
bars, rotate the HORIZONTAL HOLD,
located at the
rear side of cabinet, slowly
in either direction until a stable, station-
ary picture is obtained.

Outside Interferences
"SNOW" OR WEAK PICTURE
This condition may be evident when the
signal to the receiving antenna is weak.
For the best possible reception,
an out-
side antenna may be required.

DIATHERMY
Electrically operated medical equipment
such as diathermy apparatus, may pro-
duce a herringbone pattern across the
picture and,
if severe, may even obliterate
part of the picture. This interference
normally
is of short duration, and c.;annot
be removed by receiver adjustment. The
noise source must be located and
corrected.

RADIO INTERFERENCE
Interference in the form of ripples or
unstable pictures may result from neigh-
boring receiving or transmitting equip-
ment, flashing neon signs, trolley wires or
electrical appliances.
If receiver adjust-
ment
does not remove the problem, the
noise source must be located and
corrected.

SOUND BARS IN PICTURE
Misadjustment of the FINE TUNING
control may
cause "sound bars" on the
screen . The sound bars can be eliminated
by properly adjusting the FINE
TUNING
control

Maintenance Hints
• Avoid excessively hot locations. Dam-
age to the cabinet or premature tran-
sistor failures may result.
• The bottom and rear of the cab1net are
provided with ventilation holes. Do
not place the receiver
on the top of
thick cloth, or attempt to cover these
openings in any way.
• When the receiver is not to be used for
several days, it is advisable to dis-
connect the AC plug from the wall
socket.
• The surfaces of the cabinet can easily
be damaged if not properly main-
tained. Many common household aero-
sol sprays, cleaning agents, solvents
and polishes will cause permanent
damage to these fine surfaces. Best
results for cleaning are obtained with
mild soap and a damp cloth, with a
soft cloth
for drying.
