High volume levelscan create potentiallydangerous situations by drowning out
surrounding sounds. Usecaution when drivingwhile operating the unit, and obey
all applicable laws.
Do not playyour headset ata high volume level. Hearing expertsadvise against
continuous extended play.
If you experiencea ringing inyour ears, reduce the volume ordiscontinue use.
No object filledwith liquids, suchas vases, shall be placed onthe apparatus.
Do not usewhile bicycling, runningor operating a motorized vehicle.
The apparatus shallnot be exposedto dripping or splashing.

Do not usewhere there are extremes of temperature (below 5 C or exceeding

35 C).
Sudden changes inthe ambient temperaturemay cause condensation to form
on the opticallens inside theunit. If this happens, take outthe disc, leavethe
unit for about1 hour, and then proceed to operate.
Do not insertpins, etc., insidethe unit.
This unit isequipped with asafety device which automatically turns thelaser
beam off when the disccompartment is opened.If a pinor other metal object
should get insidethe unit, however, this safetydevice may bedeactivated.
The rating labelis located onthe bottom of the unit.

POWER SUPPLY
AC adaptor
Plug one endof the AC adaptor intothe DC 4.5V socket, then plug the other endinto an
AC outlet.
Use only thesupplied AC adaptor.
If theAC adaptor is connected, the power supply automatically switches to the AC
power source andthe installed batteries disconnected.
Alkaline batteries
Install two R6/AAbatteries (not supplied)as shown in Fig.3. Observe properpolarity.
Battery replacement
If the batteryweak and discharged, blinks on the display, then thepower
automatically turns off. If thisoccurs,
replace the batteries.
Dispose of allused batteries safely and in accordancewith all applicable laws.
Note:
When you arenot going to use the unitfor one month or more, take the batteries out
of the batterycompartment.

BEFORE OPERATION
Digital Anti-shock function
In the previousanti-shock function, when skips occurred while available memory runs
out, then thesound would suffer some interruption.
The new digitalanti-shock function is designed to prevent skipping to the greatest
extent possible insteadof supplementing the skipped portion of the sound.
This is achievedby expanding the memory capacity, and inaddition full attention has
been given alsoto increasing the unit's signal reading capability.
Moreover, considerationhas been given to eliminating the basic causes ofskipping,
both from thestandpoint of horizontal shock and vertical shock.
Use this functionwhen listening during walk or playing in a car.
When the buttonis pressed first time, the anti rolling shock function turns on
automatically. appears on thedisplay. The changes to when thebuffer
memory is fullof next 10 seconds music data(Fig.4).
Note:
Press the DASbutton to turn the anti rollingshock function off. disappears.
Press the buttonagain to turn it on.
Sound may skipor mute for a few secondswhen you press the DAS buttonduring
play.
Playing may stopwhen the unit gets strong shockeven when the anti rolling shock
function is on.
Bass xpander system
Set the BASSswitch to ON to enhance thebass sound.
Auto power ONfunction
The power turnson automatically when the button is pressed.
Auto power OFFfunction
The power turnsoff automatically after about 30 seconds when all tracks on a disc
have been playedor when the button is pressedonce to stop play.

Hold function
The HOLD switchdisables the buttons from operating toprevent play from starting
or stopping dueto accidental operation. For normal use, leave the switch in the off
position.
Toprevent battery drain:
Set the HOLDswitch to the on position (Fig.6)when carrying the unit in a bag. The
button will notfunction even if the button is pressed accidentally. HOLD appears
briefly on thedisplay.
Toprevent play from being interrupted:
Set the HOLDswitch to the on position (Fig.6)after starting play. HOLD appears.
If the operatingbuttons do not function when pressed
1. Check whetherthe HOLD switch is on ornot.
2. Remove thebatteries and/or disconnect the ACadaptor from the unit. Wait a few
seconds, then reinstallthe batteries or reconnect theAC adaptor.
3. If thebuttons still do not function, insertnew batteries or charge the rechargeable
battery.

HANDLING COMPACT DISCS
Use compact discsbearing the symbolshown in Fig.7. In addition toconventional 12
cm CDs, thisunit can beused to play 8 cm CDswithout an adaptor.
Do not exposethe disc todirect sunlight, high humidity or hightemperatures for
extended periods oftime.
Discs should bereturned to theircases after use.
Do not applypaper or writeanything on the disc surface.
Handle the discby its edge.Do not touch the playing surfaceof the disc with a
soft cloth.
Fingerprints and dustshould be carefullywiped off the playing surfaceof the disc
with a softcloth.
Wipe in astraight motion fromthe center to the outside ofthe disc.
Never use chemicalssuch as recordcleaning sprays, antistatic sprays or fluids,
benzene or thinnerto clean compactdiscs.
The unit willnot play a disc that has been inserted upside down, or discs
which do notconform to theCompact Disc standard.

PLAYINGA DISC
Be sure toreduce the volume before connecting ordisconnecting the headphones.
1. Connect theheadphones , then plug the cordfrom the headphonesinto the
PHONES socket (Fig.5).
2. Slide theOPEN switch right to open the disc compartment lid.
3. Hold thedisc with the labeled side upand press it onto the pivot until it clicks into
place (Fig.8).
WARNING!
Do not insertyour fingers into the opened panel.You may damage the unit or cause
personal injury.
Do not allowyoung children to operate the unitunattended.
To remove thedisc
Remove the discwhile pressing the pivot.
4. Close thedisc compartment lid.
5. Press the button to beginplay.
The track number and elapsedplaying time forthe current track are displayed.
6.Adjust theVOLUME control as desired.
7.To stop playtemporarily, press the button.The display blinks. Press the
button again toresume.
The total number of tracksand total playingtime appear.
8.Tostop play, press the button once. The total numberof tracks andtotal playing
time appear.
To turn thepower off, press the buttononce again.

Skip play
Toskip to track 6 while track 3 is playing,press the button repeatedly until 06
appears on thedisplay.
Toskip back to track 3 while track 6 isplaying, press the button repeatedly until
03 appears.
Search (forward/reverse)
If the or button is pressedduring play, the playerwill search at high speed in
the forward orreverse direction whilethe button is being pressed. Whenthe button
is released, normalplay will continue.
PROGRAMMED PLAY
Up to 20tracks on a disc can be programmed for playin any order.
1. Press thePROG button duringstop.
The track numberand programmed numberare displayed.
2. Press the or button toselect a track.

3. Press the PROG button.
4. Repeat steps 2 and 3to programmed tracks.
5. To check theprogrammed contents afterall tracks have been programmed, press
the PROG buttonrepeatedly. The programmed track numbers sequentiallyappear
on the display.
6. Press the button to startprogrammed play.
To cancel programmedplay, press the buttontwice.
Changing a programmed
To add a newtrack to aprogrammed:
1. In thestop mode, pressthe PROG button repeatedly until isdisplayed.
2. Select atrack as explainedabove.
3. Press thePROG button.
To change a track:
1. In thestop mode, pressthe PROG button repeatedly until thetrack number tobe
replaced is displayed.
2. Select atrack as explainedabove.
3. Press thePROG button.
Note:
Programmed details cannotbe partially deletedor inserted.

SHUFF PLAY
1. Press theMODE button fourtimes during stop. SHUFF appears.
2. Press the button. Alltracks on thedisc are playedin shuff order.
To cancel shuff play, press the MODE button once.
CLEANING
Cleaning the pickuplens
Dust on thepickup lens canlead to erratic operation and interruptionof the sound
during play.
To clean thepickup lens, openthe disc compartment lid. Blow the dust off of the
lens using acamera lens blower(available at most camera stores) (Fig.9).
Do not touchthe surface ofthe lens.
Cleaning the cabinet
Use a softcloth moistened withplain lukewarm water and wrung dry.
Never use benzol,benzene or otherstrong chemical cleaners.
