3.2Residual CurrentDevice&MiniatureCircuitBreakers
The Residual CurrentDevice(RCD)is basicallyprovided
toprotecttheuserfrom lethal electricshock. The RCD will
turn off (trip) ifthe currentflowing intheliveconductor
does notfullyreturn downthe neutral conductor, i.e. some
current is passingthroughaperson downtoearthor
through afaultyappliance.
ToensuretheRCD is working correctly, the test button
should be operated eachtimethevehicleisconnected to
the mainssupply(see section5.1)
The Miniature Circuit Breakers(MCB’s)operatein asimilar
waytotraditionalfusesand areprovidedtoprotectthe
wiring installationfrom overload orshortcircuit.If an
overload occurstheMCBwill switchoffthe supply. If this
occursyou should investigatethe causeofthe faultbefore
switching the MCBbackon.
The followingtableshows the rating and circuit allocation forthe threeMCB’s

WARNING
When replacingfuses always replaceafusewiththe correct value. NEVER replacewithahighervalue/

A)Type/ Selection
Foroptimumperformanceand safety itisessentialthat only aproprietary brand LEISUREbatteryis
used withatypicalcapacity of 75 to120 Ah(Ampere/ hours). Anormalcarbatteryis NOTsuitable.
This battery shouldalways be connected when the systemisinuse.
The EC155PSU isdesignedtocharge standardlead acidleisurebatteries, howeverit may be used
withGelbatteries depending on theircomposition.Pleaseconsult the batterydocumentationfor
furtheradvice.
The battery feed is fittedwithan inlinefusebetween the batteryand the electricalharness, and is
usuallylocated immediately outsidethe battery compartment orwithin500mmof the battery. The
maximumrating of this fuseis 20Aperbattery.
B)Installation& Removal
Always disconnect the 230Vmains supply andturnthe EC155PSU chargerswitchtothe OFF (0)
positionbeforeremoving orinstallingthe battery.
When connectingthe battery, ensurethat the correct polarity is observed(black isnegative[-] and red
is positive[+])andthatthe terminalsaresecurelyfastened. Crocodileclips must not be used.
WARNING
Explosivegases may be present at the battery. Takecaretoprevent flames and sparks inthe vicinity
of the battery and do not smoke.
C)Operation/ Servicing
Undernormalcircumstances it shouldnot benecessary toremovethe battery otherthan forroutine
inspection of the terminals and “topping up”ofthe battery fluidwhereapplicable. Pleasesee
instructions supplied withthe battery.
Note: Donotoverdischargethe battery. One of the most common causes of batteryfailureis when
the batteryis discharged belowthe recommended levelofapproximately 10V. Dischargingabattery
belowthis figurecan causepermanent damagetoone ormoreof the cells withinthe battery.
Toprevent overdischarge, the EC155PSU inconjunction withthe EC5xseriescontrolpanel
incorporates abatteryprotect circuit that warns and thendisconnects the batterieswhen they fall
belowthe followingconditions:

willoccur(see below).
This cut offlevelis designed toprotect the vehicle
battery fromoverdischarge. The10.9Vlevel
ensures thereis sufficient powerinthe batteryto
run the vehicleelectronics andstartthe vehicle.
This cut offonly applies topowerdrawnfromthe
battery bythe leisureequipment; it willnot protect
the batteryif you leavethevehiclelights on.
Leisure 9V Poweris turnedoff
Thisis an emergency cutoff leveltoprotect the
battery fromseveredamage. You shouldnot rely
on this cut off levelduring normaloperation, but
manage yourpowerconsumption toadischarge
levelof 10V.
This cut offonly applies topowerdrawnfromthe
battery bythe leisureequipment that is controlled
by the controlpanelpowerswitch;it willnotprotect
the battery fromdischarge bythe radioorother
permanently connected equipment.
Note: the systemalsoincorporatesan overvoltagecut-out whichturns thesystempoweroff if either
battery voltage exceeds 15V(indicated by theleveldisplay top LED flashing).
