1Introduction
Thissection ofthe handbookwillguide youthrough the operation ofthe electricalsystem. All details
are correct at the time ofgoing to press. Pleasealso see the online version whichwillinclude anylater
updatesoramendments.
Furthertechnicaldetailsare contained in section 3 orin thesupporting technicalmanualavailablefrom
www.sargentltd.co.uk
Forthe safe operationofall electricalequipment within yourmotorhome it isimportant that you read
and fullyunderstand these instructions. If you are unsure ofanypoint please contactyourdealer/
distributorforadvicebeforeuse.
The systemhasa numberofkeycomponentsthat youwillneedto be familiarwithbefore attempting to
use thesystem, these are:
·The EC700 PowerSupplyUnit (PSU)-a combined mainsconsumerunitand 12Vcontroller
located in the bed boxorupperlocker.
·The EC700 ControlPanel(CP)-a remotelylocated usercontrolpanelused to turn circuits
on and off and to displaybattery, watertankand othersysteminformation. Thispaneluses
simple straightforward controlsandreliabledata communication to the PSU.
·The PX300 Intelligent Batterycharger300W. -Aseparate, aircooled 300Watt multi-stage
powerconverterunit that chargesthe batteriesand provides12VDC power.
·The EM40Vehicle Interface Unit -Thissmall unitislocated at floorlevelbehind the drivers’
seat. The unithousesfusesforthe fridge, vehiclebattery, radioand othersystems. It also
providesconnectionsforthe optionaltowbarharness.
2Using theSystem
2.1PowerSupplyUnit-ComponentLayout
The PSUislocatedinthefront offside upperlockerand similarlocations
2.2Activating theSystem
The EC700 systemhasa shutdown feature that canbe used when the vehicleisin storage. This
allowsthe leisureelectronicsto be turned off when not required tosave batterypower. When in theoff
state the alarmand tracking systemsuppliesare stillactive, all othersuppliesareturned off.
Before using the systemplease ensure the systemshutdown switchisin the on position (button in)the
systemisnowactive.
Note: if you plan to usethe MyAuto-Trail remote featuresthe systemneedsto be active.

ForyoursafetyitisIMPORTANTthat youfollowthese connectionsinstructionseachtimeyourLeisure
Vehicleisconnectedtoamainssupply.Thissectionassumesthat thesystemis completeandthat a
Leisurebatteryhasbeeninstalled (see 3.4).
A)Ensuresuitabilityof theMainsSupply.Yourmotorhomeshouldonlybe connectedtoanapproved
supplythat meetsthe requirementsofBS7671orrelevant harmonised standards.Inmostcasesthe
site warden willholdinformationregarding suitabilityofsupply.Ifusing ageneratoryoualsoneed
to complywiththerequirements/instructionssuppliedwiththegenerator.Pleasenotethatsome
electronicgenerators maynot becompatiblewithyourleisuresystem.Furthergeneratoroperational
information iscontained elsewhereinthismanual.
B)SwitchthePSUinternal PowerConverterOFF.Locate thegreen ‘Charger’powerswitchon the
PSUand ensure the switchisintheoff position (buttonout)before connectionto the mainssupply.
C)ConnecttheHook-up Lead.Firstlyconnectthe suppliedhook-up lead(orangecablewith blue
connectors) to the LeisureVehicleand then connect to themainssupply.
D)Check Residual Current Device operation. Locatethe RCDwithin the PSU and ensurethe RCD
isswitchedon (leverinup position).Press the ‘Test’button and confirmthat the RCD turnsoff (lever
indown position).Switchthe RCD backto the on position (leverinupposition).Ifthe testbutton
failed to operate the RCDsee section 3.18.
E)Check MiniatureCircuitBreakers.Locate the MCB’swithinthePSU(adjacent to theRCD)and
ensuretheyareallinthe on(up)position. IfanyMCB’sfailto ‘latch’inthe onpositionseesection
3.18.
F) TurnthePSUON. Locatethe black‘Shutdown’button andensureitisintheon position (press
buttonin).Locatethegreen‘Charger’switchonthePSUand turnto the onposition (press button
in). The chargerswitchwill illuminate when turned on.
G) Check correctPolarity.Locate the‘Reversepolarity’indicatoronthePSUandensurethat the
indicatorisNOTilluminated. Ifthe indicatorisilluminated see section3.18.
H)Check operation of equipment. It isnowsafe to operate the 12Vand 230Vequipment.
2.4Control Panel -ComponentLayout
Yourcontrolpanelwill havean appearanceasbelow, but depending on yourvehicle specification the
controlpanelfeatureswillvary. Not allfeaturesarepresent in allvehicles.

2.5Control Panel Operation
2.5.1Home Screen
PowerButton – pressing thisbuttonswitcheson powerat thePSUandenablesthe water
pump(s) and lightsto be switchedon andoff.When on the buttonwillbebacklit blue.
The powerbutton can alsoautomaticallyturn some ofthe lightson when itisswitched from
off to on (these canbe selected onthelighting settingsscreen, see section 2.5.5 fordetails).
Pump Button – pressing thisbutton switchesthe pumpson and off.When on thebutton will
be backlit blue.
WaterLevels – Pressing thisbuttontakesyou to the waterlevelsscreen,allowingyou to
viewthewaterlevelsin the fresh and waste tanks(where fitted).
PowerLevels – Pressing thisbuttontakesyou to the powerlevelsscreen, allowing you to
view: batteryvoltages, active batterycurrent, accurrent andsolarcurrent.
MainLights – Pressing this button togglesthemainslighton andoff,When on the button will
be backlit blue.
Awning lights –Pressing thisbuttontogglesthe awning / entrylightson and off,When on
the buttonwillbebacklit blue.
DimmedLights –Pressing thisbutton togglesthe dimmed lightson and off
Pressing andholdingthedimmed lightsbutton willchange the dimming levelwhile held.
The dimmed lightsbrightness levelcanalsobe changed in the lighting settingsmenu (see
section 2.5.5 forfull details).
Settings – Pressing thisbutton takesyou to the first settingsscreen (powersettings), from
there the othersettingsscreenscan be accessed (powersettings, lighting settings, screen
settings, time &date)
ScreenWake – aftera period ofinactivity(the defaulttime isfive minutes) the screen willpowerdown
and the backlight will switch off to help conserve power. Simplytouch the screenin anyplaceto wake
the screen.
The screen time out time can be changedon the screen settingsscreen(see section2.5.6 forfull
details)

Top bar – the top bardisplaysthe externaltemperature, relativehumidity,internaltemperature, ac
plugging status, solarcharging status, and frostwarning status. Onotherscreenshumidityisreplaced
bythe clock.
The lighting symbolisdisplayedwhen AC mainspowerisconnected tothe system.
The solaractive symbolisdisplayedwhen enough current isbeing generated bythe solar
panelto put charge into thebattery(i.e. solarcurrent greaterthan 100mA)
The frost warning symbolisdisplayed when the externaltemperature isbelow 2oC
2.5.2Waterlevelsscreen
The fresh waterlevelisshown ontheleft ofthescreen, whilst thewastewaterlevelisshownon the
right.
Please Note: that the levelson the screen will update morefrequentlyifthe pumpsare switched on.
An audiblewarning willsound forup to 60secondsand a warning message will displayonscreen, if
the freshwaterlevelfallsbelow 25%orifthe waste isfull.
Pressing the okbutton on the warning message willsnooze thewarning untilpowerisswitched off and
backon again.
The waterlevelwarningscan be disabled on the screen settingsscreen, see section2.5.6 fordetails
Levelsscreensnavigation:
Left arrow– switchesbetween the waterand powerlevelsscreen.
Home – returnsyou to thehome screen.
Right arrow– switchesbetween the waterandpowerlevelsscreen.

2.5.3Powerlevelsscreen
The powerlevels screen showsthe voltage ofleisure and vehiclebatteries, the current ofon the
active battery, the mainscurrent drawandthesolarcurrent.
The active battery isselected on the powersettingsscreen section 2.5.4.The active batterycurrent
showsifthe batteryisbeing charged ordischarged. On thescreen shown above the batteryisbeing
charged asthecurrent ison thepositive scale. Ifthebatterywasbeing discharged thecurrent would
be shown on the negative scale.
2.5.4Powersettingsscreen
Settingsscreennavigation:
Left arrow– takesyou to the previoussettingsscreen.
Home – returnsyou to thehome screen.
Right arrow– takesyouto the next settingsscreen.

Leisurebattery
– whenselected the button isbacklitblue, when not selected the button is
backlit grey.
Vehicle battery
– when selected the button isbacklitblue, when not selected the button is
backlit grey.
Smartbatte
rycharging
– smart charging monitors the leisureand vehicle batteryvoltages
and automaticallychangesthe batterybeing charged to ensureboth batteriesareoptimally
charged. When selected the button isbacklitblue, when not selected the button is backlit
grey.
Tank Fill
– pressing thisstart the automaticfilling ofthe fresh watertank, the filling process
willautomaticallystop when thetanksensors detectitisfull orafter7 minutesoffilling
whicheveroccurs sooner. The buttonwillbe backlit bluewhilefilling.
Tank Heaters
– Thisbuttonwill be backlit blue whenactive. Thisdoesn’tmean that the tank
heaters willbe switched on.The tankheaters willonlybe onwhile the externaltemperature is
below2oC and ifthere isover25%ofwaterin the tank.
Active batteryselect – The batteryhighlighted in blueistheactivebattery,thisisthe batterybeing
charged bymains(when plugged in)and the batterythat isbeing used bythe system. Pressing the
smart batterycharging button switchessmart chargingon and off, the button islitbluewhile on.
Solarbattery select –the batteryhighlighted inblue is the batterythat the solarcharging isbeing
directedtoo. Pressing the smart batterychargingbutton switchesthe solarsmart charging on and off,
the button islitblue whileon.
2.5.5Lighting settingsscreen
Lights to be automatically be switchedon with power:
On the left side ofthe screen thelightsto be switchon with the powerbutton are shown.
Pressing the togglebutton next to each selectswhich lightswillbe switchon when thepowerbuttonis
pressed fromoffto on.
Setdimming level:
In addition to holding the dimmed lightsbutton the dimming levelcan be adjustedin 5%stepsby
pressing the ‘–’buttonto reduce the lighting leveland the ‘+’buttonto increasethe lighting level.

2.5.6Settingsscreen
Software version information:
The screen displaysallofthe softwareversion information foreachpart ofthesystem: controlpanel,
powersupplyunit, EC365 communication module.Aswellasthe unique EC635 IMEInumber.
Keybeep – pressing the keybeep toggle button switchesthekeypress beep off and on.
Waterlevel alarms –pressing the waterlevelalarmtoggle button switchesthewaterlevelalarmson
and off.
Screenback light level – pressing the ‘–’buttondecreasesthebacklight brightness, while pressing
the ‘+’button increasesthe brightness
Screentimeout – pressing the‘–’button decreasesthe screen time out time, whilepressing the ‘+’
button increasesthe screen time out time.
2.5.7Time &date settingsscreen
The time and date can be changed usingtheplus‘+’and minus‘–’keys,thechangesto the time and
date are saved when the screen isexited using the navigationskeys.

2.6Operation whiledriving
The EC700 systemisdesigned to shutdown partsof thesystemwhile the engine is running. Thisisto
meet ElectromagneticCompatibility(EMC)regulationsandto ensurethe safeoperationofthe
motorhome.
Pleaseensurethesystemshutdown switchon the PSUisintheon(button in)position beforedriving
(see 2.2).Thiswillensurethe electronicsystemisactiveandwill thereforebeableto controlthe
charging process, supplythe refrigeratorand monitorothersystemcircuits.
Wherefitted; designated12Vsockets,en-route reading lightsand en-routeheatingwillremain
operationalwhiletheengine isrunning.
3System Technical Information
The following section providesfurthertechnicalinformation relating to the electricalsystem. You can

3.1Residual CurrentDevice &MiniatureCircuitBreakers
The Residual Current Device(RCD) is
basicallyprovided toprotecttheuser
fromlethal electricshock. TheRCD will
turnoff (trip) ifthe current flowing inthe
liveconductordoesnot fullyreturndown
the neutralconductor,i.e. somecurrent
is passingthrough apersondownto
earthor through afaultyappliance.
Toensurethe RCD isworkingcorrectly,
the test buttonshouldbeoperated each
timethe vehicle isconnected tothe
mainssupply(seesection 2.3)
The MiniatureCircuit Breakers(MCB’s)
operateinasimilar waytotraditional
fusesandareprovided toprotect the
wiring installation fromoverloador short
circuit. If anoverload occursthe MCB
will switchoffthe supply. Ifthisoccurs
you should investigatethecauseofthe
faultbeforeswitchingthe MCB backon.

3.2Generator Usage
Caution should be used before connecting a generatorto yourmotorhome.
WARNING
Neverstart orstopthegeneratorwhile electricalloadsare connectedand switched on.Start the engine,
let it stabiliseand then connect the electricalload.When stopping the generator,disconnect theelectrical
load and let enginestabilise before switching off.
Whilstsomegenerators useelectronicinvertertechnology,others useamorebasicprincipletogenerate
the 230Vsupply.Preferenceshouldbeto chooseageneratorwhichproducesaconsistentsinusoidal
wave formwith accurate voltage control.
The ReversePolaritywarning lighton the PSUmayilluminate when usingaGenerator.Thisisanormal
side effectwhen usingsometypesofgenerator.Instead ofconnectingtheneutralconductorto earth,
somegenerators centretaptheearthconnection making bothneutraland liveconductors 110Vabove
earth. This110Vdifference causesthe neon polarityindicatorto illuminate.
In mostcasesitissafetouseagenerator,but pleaseconsultthe generatorhandbookforfurther
information.
3.3BatteryCharger
The systemincorporatesan intelligent three-stagebatterycharger.
Duringstage1thebatteryvoltage isincreasedgraduallywhilethe current islimitedto startthecharging
process andprotectthebattery.Atstage2thevoltagerisesto 14.4Vtodeliverthe bulkchargetothe
battery.When thebatteryischarged,thevoltageisdecreasedatstage3to13.6Vtodeliverafloat
charge to maintainthe batteryinthe fullycharged state. The chargercan be leftswitched on
continuouslyasrequired.
The batterycharger/powerconverteralsoprovidespowerto theleisureequipment when themains
supplyisconnected.ThismodulesuppliesDCtotheleisureequipment uptoamaximum of25 Amps
(300 Watts),thereforetheavailablepowerisdistributed between theleisureloadandthe battery,with
the leisure load taking priorityasperthe following example:

WARNING
Underheavyloadsthe BatteryChargercase maybecome hot. ALWAYSensurethe ventilation slots

3.4LeisureBattery
A)Type / Selection
Foroptimumperformanceand safetyitisessentialthat onlyaproprietarybrandLEISUREbatteryis
used and itissuggestedtoselectabatteryfromthe NCC Verified BatterySchemewith atypicalcapacity
of75 to 120 Ah(Ampere/hours).Dependingontheprospectiveuseofthe vehiclethe correcttype
shouldbe selected(A,BorC).Anormalcarbatteryis NOTsuitable.Thisbatteryshouldalwaysbe
connectedwhen the systemisin use.
The PSUisconfigured toworkwith standardlead acidleisurebatteries,andinmostcasesisalso
compatiblewith thelatestrangeofAbsorbedGlass Matt (AGM)batteries.The systemisalsosuitable
forLithiumbatterieswith built-inBatteryManagement SystemsBMS).Beforefitting non-standard
batteriespleasecheckthatthechargingprofiledescribed in3.3issuitableforthetypeofbatteryby
referring to the batterydocumentation orbatterymanufacturer.
Somevehicleinstallationscan caterfortwoleisurebatteriesconnected inparallel.Inthesecasesitis
recommended that two identicalbatteriesare used.
The batteryfeedisfitted withaninlinefusebetweenthebatteryandtheelectricalharness,andisusually
locatedimmediatelyoutsidethe batterycompartment orwithin500mmofthe battery.The maximum
ratingofthisfuse is20Aperbattery.Ifasingle batteryisfittedto a motorhome, this fusecouldbeupto
40A,howeveriftwobatteriesare fittedeachbatteryshould be fused ata maximumof20A.
B)Installation & Removal
Alwaysdisconnectthe230Vmainssupplyand turnthe PSUgreenchargerswitchto the off position
(buttonout)before removing orinstalling the battery.
When connectingthe battery,ensurethatthecorrectpolarityisobserved(blackis negative[-]andred
ispositive [+])and that the terminalsare securelyfastened. Crocodile clipsmustnot be used.
WARNING
Explosive gasesmaybe present at the battery.Takecare to prevent flamesand sparks in thevicinityof
the batteryand do not smoke.
C)Operation / Servicing
Undernormalcircumstancesitshouldnot benecessaryto removethebatteryotherthan forroutine
inspection ofthe terminalsand “toppingup”ofthe batteryfluidwhereapplicable. Pleasesee instructions
supplied with the battery.
Note: Donotoverdischargethe battery.Oneofthe mostcommon causesofbatteryfailureiswhen the
batteryisdischargedbelowthe recommended levelofapproximately10V.Discharginga batterybelow
thisfigure can causepermanent damage to one ormore ofthe cellswithinthe battery.
Toprevent overdischarge,the EC700systemincorporatesabatteryprotectcircuitthatwarnstheusers
and thendisconnectsthe batterieswhen theyfall belowset values.
Ifawarningisactiveabeepwillbeemittedbythe controlpaneland informationwillbeshown onthe
screen. Tocancelthe warning, press the okbutton onthe pop upwindow. Thesewarningswill not be
repeated unless the powerswitchisturned off and onagain.Thisisto ensurethe warningdoesnot
become a nuisance.

manage yourpowerconsumption to a discharge
levelofabout 11.5V.
Thiscut off onlyappliestopowerdrawn fromthe
batterybythe leisure equipment that iscontrolled
bythe controlpanelpowerswitch; itwillnotprotect
the batteryfromdischarge bypermanently
connected equipment.
3.512 VoltDC Fuses
WARNING
When replacing fusesalwaysreplace a fusewiththecorrect value. NEVER replace witha highervalue /
ratingasthiscould damage the wiring harness. Ifa replacement fuse ‘blows’ do not keep replacing the
fuse asyou could damage the wiring harness. Pleaseinvestigate the fault and contactyourdealer.
The following tableshowsthe fuseallocationforthe 13fusesfitted to the PSU. Pleasenote that fuses
are dependent onPSUversions, so not allfusesmaybe present.

3.6SolarChargeManagement
The EC700 PSUincorporatesabuilt-insolarcharge management feature, whichwillmonitorthe input
fromaseparate solarpaneland regulator.The SolarActivesymbolwillbedisplayedonthecontrol
panelwhen thereisan amount ofenergyavailabletocharge the battery.Inamotorhome, depending
on thechargestateofthebatteries,thesolarpowerwillbedirectedtothe requiredbatteryand
continuouslymonitored to ensure optimumoperation.
3.7MainsCharging
The EC700 PSUincorporatesasmartcharge feature,whichmonitors bothleisureandvehicle batteries
and automaticallyadjustsand directsthe chargerpower(andsolarpowerifasolarpanelisinstalled)to
maintain the leisure and vehiclebatteriesat an optimallevel.
3.8WaterPump Operation
The EC700 controlpanelpump button operatesthe internalwaterpump drawing waterfroman internal
tankiffitted, oranexternalcontainerwhen no internaltankisfitted.
The watertanks(fresh&waste)incorporatealevelwarning featuretowarntheuserwhenthefresh
waterleveldropsbelow25%orwhen thewastewaterlevelreaches100%.
If the waterpumppoweristurned on and the freshwaterleveldropsto below25%awarningbeep will
be heardandamessage willbedisplayedonthecontrolpanel.Tocancelthe warning, press theok
button.
If the waterpumppoweristurned onand thewastewaterlevelrisesto full(100%) awarning beepwill
be heardandamessage willbedisplayedonthecontrolpanel.Tocancelthe warning, press theok
button.
Thesewarningswillnotberepeated unless thewaterpumppowerswitchisturned off and onagain.
Thisisto ensurethe warning doesnot become a nuisance.
3.9WaterTankHeaters(frostprotection)Operation
The EC700featuresthe abilitytoswitchon watertankheaterto providefrostprotection forthefreshand

Ifthe tankheaters areturned on beforestartingajourney,whentheengineisstarted thetankheaters
willremainon forthe duration ofthe journey.When the engine isstopped the tankheaters willremain
on forafurther15 minutes.Ifthe engineisrestartedwithinthis15minute periodthe tankheaters will
remain on, again forthe durationofthe journey.
When the engine isstoppedthe tankheaters will turnoffaftera15 minute period.Toturnthemback
on you will need to turn the controlpanelon and then tankheaters on.
3.10Lighting &Dimming Operation
The systemcontainsadimming channelforgroupsoflightswhichcanbe controlledbythedimmer
button. Somemotorhome modelsalso featurean additionalfurniture mounted dimming control.
The awning light canagainbe controlledbyanumberofitems,the localswitchadjacent totheentry
door,thecontrolpanelawning lightbuttonandthelockandunlocksystem(dependant onsystemsetting
being set to do so). Eachitemcan toggle the light on and off.
3.11ElectricStepOperation
Onvehiclesfitted withan electricstep,thisisoperated byabuttonnearthe entrydoor.Press and
releasethe buttonto movethe step inorout. One press ofthe button willmovethe step out; afurther
press willmove the step inagain.
Ifthe engineisstartedthestep willmoveinautomatically,afterashortwarningbuzzer.Ifthisoperation
failsdue toan obstacleabuzzerwill sound continuouslyto warnthat thestep isstill out, and therefore
requiresyourattention.
3.12TemperatureReadings
The EC700Temperaturesensormeasuresthe‘core’temperatureofthevehicle,andprovidesafigure
forinformationonly.Thesamesensoralsomeasureshumidity,providingafigure(alsoforinformation
only)fromwithin that area.
It ishopedthat thetemperatureinformation isaparticularlyusefulfigure,forinstancewhenchecking on
the vehicleremotelyduring coldweather.
Heat fromotheritemsinthevehicle(inparticularcomponentsfromthe heating systemitself)willhave
abearingon the reading displayedbythe MyAuto-Trail system.Ventilationisalsopresent, and air
enteringorpassingthroughthisareawillalsohaveaneffectonthetemperaturesandhumiditylevels
displayed.
3.13SystemWarnings
The systemincorporatesanumberofwarningsthatareactiveat specifictimes.Thesearesummarised
below, and also covered byrelevant sectionsofthismanual.
