1Introduction
Thissection ofthe handbookwillguide youthrough the operation ofthe electricalsystem. All details
are correct at the time ofgoing to press. Pleasealso see the online version whichwillinclude anylater
updatesoramendments.
Furthertechnicaldetailsare contained in section 3 orin thesupporting technicalmanualavailablefrom
www.sargentltd.co.uk
Forthe safe operationofall electricalequipment within yourLeisureVehicleitisimportant that you
read and fullyunderstand these instructions. If you are unsureofanypointplease contactyourdealer
/ distributorforadvice before use.
The systemhasa numberofkeycomponentsthat youwillneedto be familiarwithbefore attempting to
use thesystem, these are:
·The EC601, EC602 &EC651 PowerSupplyUnit(PSU)-a combined mainsconsumerunit
and 12Vcontrollerlocated in thebed boxorupperlocker.
·The EC620 ControlPanel(CP)-a remotelylocated usercontrolpanelused to turn circuits
on and off and to displaybattery, watertankand othersysteminformation. Thispaneluses
simple straightforward controlsandreliabledata communication to the PSU.
·The PX300 Intelligent Batterycharger300W.
·The C44 Road Light FuseBox-Thissmall unit, whichisunique tocaravans,islocated in
the front bed box. The unithousesfusesforthe roadlighting circuitsand suppliesfromthe
towvehicle,and also hasconnectors forthe optionalalarmsystemand AutomaticTrailer
Control(ATC)unit.

2.2Activating theSystem
The EC600 systemhasa shutdown feature that canbe used when the vehicleisin storage. This
allowsthe leisureelectronicsto be turned off when not required tosave batterypower. When in theoff
state the alarmand tracking systemsuppliesare stillactive, all othersuppliesareturned off.
Before using the systemplease ensure the systemshutdown switchisin the on position (button in)the
systemisnowactive.
Note: if you plan to usethe Swift Command remote featuresthe systemneedsto be active.
2.3Connecting totheMains230V supplyand Safetychecks
Foryoursafetyit isIMPORTANTthat you follow theseconnectionsinstructionseach timeyourLeisure
Vehicleisconnectedto a mainssupply. Thissection assumesthat the systemiscomplete andthat a
Leisurebatteryhasbeeninstalled (see 3.4).
A)Ensure suitabilityof theMains Supply.YourLeisure Vehicle shouldonlybe connected to an
approved supplythat meetsthe requirementsofBS7671 orrelevant harmonised standards. In
most casesthe site warden willhold information regarding suitabilityofsupply. Ifusing agenerator
you alsoneed to complywith the requirements/ instructionssupplied with the generator.Please
note thatsome electronicgenerators maynot be compatiblewithyourleisure system. Further
generatoroperationalinformation iscontained elsewhere inthismanual.
B)Switchthe PSUinternalPowerConverterOFF. Locate the green ‘Charger’powerswitch on the
PSUand ensure the switchisintheoff position (buttonout)before connectionto the mainssupply.
C)Connectthe Hook-up Lead. Firstlyconnect the supplied hook-up lead (orange cablewith blue
connectors) to the LeisureVehicleand then connect to themainssupply.
D)Check Residual Current Device operation. Locate the RCDwithin thePSUand ensurethe RCD
isswitched on(leverinup position). Press the ‘Test’button and confirmthat the RCD turnsoff
(leverindown position). Switch the RCD backto the on position (leverin up position).Ifthe test
button failed to operate theRCD see section 3.18.
E)Check Miniature CircuitBreakers. Locate the MCB’s within the PSU(adjacent to the RCD)and
ensure theyareallin the on (up)position. IfanyMCB’sfail to ‘latch’in the on position seesection
3.18.
F) Turnthe PSU ON. Locatethe black‘Shutdown’buttonand ensureitisintheon position (press
button in). Locate the green ‘Charger’switchon the PSU and turn totheon position (press button
in). The chargerswitchwill illuminate when turned on.
G) Check correctPolarity. Locate the ‘Reverse polarity’indicatoron the PSU and ensure that the
indicatorisNOTilluminated. Ifthe indicatorisilluminated see section3.18.
H)Check operation of equipment. It isnowsafe to operate the 12Vand 230Vequipment.

Yourcontrolpanelwill havean appearanceasbelow, but depending on yourtype ofvehicle (caravan
ormotorhome)the controlpanelfeatureswill vary. Not all featuresare present in allvehicles.

2.5Control Panel Operation
PowerButton. Press the powerbutton to turnthe leisure poweron. Press the button
again to turnthe poweroff. The adjacent LEDwill illuminate when the powerison, the
screen backlight will turn on and systeminformation willbeshownon the LCD display. To
avoidnight time nuisancethe LED and backlight will be turned off aftera preset time, see
note below.
Menu Navigation UpButton. Use the menu up and down buttonsto scrollthrough the
variousfunctions. The menu operateson a continuouslooparrangement soyoucan go
up ordownto reach all menu items. It isrecommended tostart in the down direction.
Menu Navigation SelectButton. Use the select button make a selection orto changea
value orsetting. Thisbutton isalso used to select the displayortoggle the display
information on manymenu items.

shownin the headerarea.
·Tank-Fill on/off, (Caravan Only)Turn tankfill on to start the externalwaterpump
and to start transferring waterfromthe externalwatercontainerto theinternalwater
tank. Tankfilling will stop when the onboardtankisfullorifmore than 7minutes
have elapsed.
·Tank Heaterson/off, (Motorhome Only)thisfeatureenablesordisablesthe
automaticFresh &Waste watertankfrost protection system. Tankheating willstart
when the tanklevelis25%orhigherand the externaltemperature isunder2 degrees
C.
·ACLimit, theAC current limiter, when enabled, willmonitortheincoming AC current
and ifthe set limit isreached the230Vheating element withinthe heating systemwill
be temporarilyturnedoff until the current fallsbelowthe set limit. Use the select
button toset the limit orto turn thefeatureoff. The ACLimit icon in the header
indicated that a limit isset and willflashifthe limiterisactive. Forthisfeature to
workcorrectlythe Heating setting must be set to Timerso that the EC600 system
can controlthe heating system.
·Temperature & Humidity, Pressing the selectbutton scrollsthrough the internal
temperature, internalhumidity&externaltemperature readings.Pleasenotethat due
to the location ofthe internaltemperature sensorthere maybe slight differencesto
the temperature shownon the heating system. Furtherdetailscan befound in
section 3.18.
·Dimmer%, thisdisplayshowsthe lightingdimming leveland isadjusted in5%
increments. The displaycommenceswherethelevelwaslast set. Press the select
button toincrease the levelup to100%and then backdownagainto 5%. Pressing
the dimming button on thecontrolpanelimmediatelyshowsthisdimming value.
·HeaterSettings, thissub menu allow the heatercontrolsandassociated settingsto
be adjusted. Afullexplanationofthe controlscan befoundintheheatersection.
·AirConditioning Settings, thissub menu allowthe optionalair-conditioning controls
and associated settingstobe adjusted. Afullexplanationofthe controlscan be
found in the aircon section.
·Fridge Settings, thissub menu allow the fridge controlsand associated settingsto
be adjusted. Afullexplanationofthe controlscan befoundinthefridge section.
·SystemSettings, thissub menu allowsa numberofsystemfeaturesto be
configured like theClock, Date, Keybeep,Backlight time, LED time, TankAlarms,
Bluetooth Pairing etc.

Pump Button. With the poweron, press the pump button to turnthe waterpump on.
Press the button again to turn the pump off. The adjacent LEDwill illuminate when the
pump ison and the levelofthe watertankwillbe shown on the screen.
InteriorLightsButton. With the poweron, press the lightsbutton to turnthe main
lighting supplyon oroff.
Light Dimming Button. With the poweron, press the dimmerbutton to turn the dimmed
lighting on oroff. Press theselect button toadjust the dimmerlevel(the menu
automaticallychangesto the adjustment screen). The last settingisremembered.
Awning Light Button. With thepoweron, press theawning light button to turn the
awning light on oroff.The Adjacent LEDwillilluminate when the awning light ison. The
awning light mayalso be controlled bythe caravan alarmsystemorthe motorhome
locking system.
Note, display illumination. The LCD backlight willilluminate forthepre-set time (defaulttime is30
seconds) adjustablebetween 5 and120 seconds. Settingthetimerto 0 secondswillforce the
backlight to bepermanentlyon. The illumination ofthe blue LED’sadjacent to the power,pump &
awning light buttonscan beconfigured inthesame wayasthe backlight. The screen willwake up if
yourhand isplaced nearthe panelorifa button ispressed.
2.6Operation whiledriving
The EC600 systemisdesigned to shutdown partsofthe systemwhile the engine is running. Thisisto
meet Electro MagneticCompatibility(EMC)regulationsand to ensure the safe operation ofthe
caravanormotorhome.
Please ensure the systemshutdown switchon the PSU isin the on(button in)position beforedriving
(see 2.2). Thiswillensure the electronicsystemisactiveand will therefore be able to controlthe
charging process, supplythe refrigeratorand monitorothersystemcircuits.
On motorhomesif/ when fitted, designated 12Vsockets, en-routereading lightsand en-route heating
willremain operationalwhile theengine isrunning.
With the engine running thescreen will showENGINERUNNING, the leisure and vehiclebatteryicons
willbe displayed to indicatetheyarebeingcharged and thecharging voltage willbe show inthemain
display.

The Residual Current Device(RCD) is
basicallyprovided toprotecttheuser from
lethalelectric shock. The RCD will turnoff
(trip) if thecurrent flowing inthelive
conductor doesnot fullyreturndownthe
neutralconductor, i.e. somecurrentis
passingthrough apersondowntoearthor
throughafaultyappliance.
Toensurethe RCD isworkingcorrectly,
the test buttonshouldbeoperated each
timethe vehicle isconnected tothe mains
supply(seesection 2.3)
The MiniatureCircuit Breakers(MCB’s)
operateinasimilar waytotraditional fuses
and areprovided toprotect thewiring
installationfromoverload or short circuit.
If an overloadoccurstheMCBwill switch
off thesupply. If this occursyou should
investigatethe causeof the fault before
switchingtheMCB back on.

3.2Generator Usage
Caution should be used before connecting a generatorto yourcaravanormotorhome.
WARNING
Neverstart orstopthegeneratorwhile electricalloadsare connectedand switched on.Start the engine, let
it stabilise and thenconnect the electricalload. When stopping the generator,disconnect the electricalload
and let engine stabilise before switchingoff.
Whilst some generators use electronicinvertertechnology,others use a more basicprinciple to
generate the 230Vsupply. Preference shouldbe to choose a generatorwhichproducesa consistent
sinusoidalwave formwith accurate voltage control.
The ReversePolaritywarning light on the PSU mayilluminate when using a Generator. Thisisa
normalside effect when using some typesofgenerator. Instead ofconnecting the neutralconductorto
earth, some generators centre tap the earthconnection making both neutralandlive conductors 110V
aboveearth. This110Vdifference causesthe neon polarityindicatorto illuminate.
In most casesit issafe to use a generator, but pleaseconsult the generatorhandbookforfurther
information.

3.3BatteryCharger
The systemincorporatesan intelligent three-stagebatterycharger.
During stage 1 the batteryvoltage isincreased graduallywhile the current islimited to startthe
charging process and protect the battery. At stage 2 the voltage risesto 14.4Vtodeliverthe bulk
charge tothebattery.When thebatteryischarged, the voltage isdecreased at stage 3 to 13.6Vto
delivera float charge to maintainthe batteryinthe fullycharged state. The chargercan be left
switched on continuouslyasrequired.
The batterycharger/ powerconverteralsoprovidespowerto the leisure equipment when the mains
supplyisconnected. Thismodule suppliesDC totheleisure equipment up to amaximumof25 Amps
(300 Watts), therefore the available powerisdistributed between the leisureload and the battery,with
the leisure load taking priorityasperthe following example:

WARNING
Underheavyloadsthe BatteryChargercase maybecome hot. ALWAYSensurethe ventilation slotshave
a clearflow ofair. Do not place combustible materialsagainst / adjacent to the charger.
3.4LeisureBattery
A)Type / Selection
Foroptimumperformance and safetyitisessentialthat onlya proprietarybrand LEISUREbatteryis
used and it issuggested to select a batteryfromthe NCC Verified BatterySchemewith a typical
capacityof75 to 120 Ah (Ampere / hours). Depending on the prospectiveuse ofthe vehiclethe
correct typeshouldbe selected (A,BorC). AnormalcarbatteryisNOTsuitable. Thisbatteryshould
alwaysbe connected when the systemisin use.
The PSUisconfigured to workwith standard lead acid leisure batteries, and in most casesisalso
compatiblewiththelatest rangeofAbsorbed Glass Matt (AGM)batteries. The systemisalso suitable
forLithiumbatterieswith built-inBatteryManagement SystemsBMS).Before fitting non-standard
batteriespleasecheckthat the charging profile described in 3.3 issuitableforthe type ofbatteryby
referring to the batterydocumentation orbatterymanufacturer.
Some vehicleinstallationscan caterfortwoleisure batteriesconnected in parallel. In these casesit is
recommended that two identicalbatteriesare used.

The batteryfeed isfitted with an inline fuse between the batteryandtheelectricalharness, andis
usuallylocated immediatelyoutside the batterycompartment orwithin 500mmofthe battery. The
maximumrating ofthisfuse is20Aperbattery.Ifa singlebatteryisfitted to amotorhome, thisfuse
couldbe up to 40A,howeveriftwo batteriesare fitted each batteryshouldbe fused ata maximumof
20A.
B)Installation & Removal
Alwaysdisconnect the 230Vmainssupplyand turn the PSU green chargerswitch to the off position
(buttonout)before removing orinstalling the battery.
When connecting the battery,ensure that the correct polarityisobserved (blackis negative[-] and red
ispositive [+])and that the terminalsare securelyfastened. Crocodile clipsmustnot be used.
WARNING
Explosive gasesmaybe present at the battery.Takecare to prevent flamesand sparks in thevicinityof
the batteryand do not smoke.
C)Operation / Servicing
Undernormalcircumstancesit shouldnot be necessaryto remove thebatteryotherthanforroutine
inspection ofthe terminalsand “toppingup”ofthe batteryfluidwhere applicable. Please see
instructionssupplied withthe battery.
Note: Do not overdischarge thebattery.One ofthe most common causesofbatteryfailureiswhen
the batteryisdischarged below therecommended levelofapproximately10V. Discharginga battery
belowthisfigure can causepermanent damage to one ormore ofthe cellswithin the battery.
To preventoverdischarge, the EC600 systemincorporatesa batteryprotect circuit that warnsthe
users and thendisconnectsthe batterieswhen theyfall belowset values.
Ifa warning isactivea beepwill be emitted bythe controlpaneland information willbe shown onthe
screen. To cancelthe warning, press the select button. Thesewarningswillnot be repeated unless
the powerswitch isturned off and on again. Thisisto ensure the warning doesnot become a
nuisance.

Leisure 9V Poweristurned off
Thisisan emergencycutoff leveltoprotectthe
batteryfromsevere damage. You should not relyon
thiscut off levelduring normaloperation, but
manage yourpowerconsumption to a discharge
levelofabout 11.5V.
Thiscut off onlyappliestopowerdrawn fromthe
batterybythe leisure equipment that iscontrolled by
the controlpanelpowerswitch; itwill not protect the
batteryfromdischarge bypermanentlyconnected
equipment.

3.512 VoltDC Fuses
WARNING
When replacing fusesalwaysreplace a fusewiththecorrect value. NEVER replace witha highervalue /
ratingasthiscould damage the wiring harness. Ifa replacement fuse ‘blows’ do not keep replacing the
fuse asyou could damage the wiring harness. Pleaseinvestigate the fault and contactyourdealer.
The following table showsthe fuse allocation forthe 13 fusesfitted to the PSU. Please note that fuses
are dependant onPSUversions, so not allfusesmaybe present.

3.6SolarChargeManagement
The EC601/602/651 PSU incorporatesa built-in solarcharge management feature, whichwillmonitor
the input froma separate solarpaneland regulator. The SolarActive symbolwillbe displayed on the
controlpanelwhen there isan amount ofenergyavailableto charge the battery. The voltage and
current produced fromthe regulatorcan be viewed on the multi-functiondisplaybyselecting the Solar
Powermenu item. In a motorhome, depending on the charge state ofthe batteries, the solarpower
willbe directed to the required batteryand continuouslymonitored toensureoptimumoperation.
3.7SmartCharging
The EC651 PSU (Motorhome only)incorporatesa smart charge feature, which monitors bothleisure
and vehicle batteriesand automaticallyadjustsanddirectsthe chargerpower(and solarpowerifa
solarpanelisinstalled)to maintain the leisure and vehiclebatteriesat an optimallevel.
3.8WaterPump Operation
The EC620 controlpanelpump button operatestheinternalwaterpump drawing waterfroman
internaltankiffitted, oran externalcontainerwhen no internaltankisfitted.
The systemincorporatesan automatictankfill feature(Caravan only). When turned on thiswill
automaticallyfill the onboardwatertankfromthe externalcontainerand will switch off automatically
when full. To enable tankfill, select‘Tank-fill on’on the controlpanel. To ensure the externalpump is
not damaged iftheexternaltankrunsdry, the pump runsfora maximumof7 minutes.
The watertanks(fresh &waste)incorporatea levelwarning feature towarntheuserwhenthefresh
waterleveldropsbelow25%orwhen thewastewaterlevelreaches100%.
Ifthe waterpump poweristurned on andthefresh waterleveldropsto below25%a warning beep will
be heardand a message willbedisplayed on the controlpanel. To cancelthewarning, press the
select button.
Ifthe waterpump poweristurned on andthe waste waterlevelrisesto full(100%) a warningbeep will
be heardand a message willbedisplayed on the controlpanel. To cancelthewarning, press the
select button.
These warningswill not be repeated unless the waterpump powerswitchisturned off and on again.
Thisisto ensurethe warning doesnot become a nuisance.
3.9WaterTankHeaters(frostprotection)Operation
The EC651 (Motorhome only)featuresthe abilityto switch onwatertankheatertoprovidefrost
protection forthefresh and waste tanks.The tankheatersymbolisdisplayed on the controlpanel
when thisfeature isenabled. The tankheaters willonlyoperateifthereisover25%in the relevant
watertankand the externaltemperature sensordetectsthat the temperature fallsbelow2 degreesC.
Ifthe temperature risesabove thisleveltheheaters willbe switched off but the featurewill remain on.
Ifthe tankheaters are turned on before startinga journey, when the engine isstarted the tankheaters
willremain onforthe duration ofthejourney. When the engine isstopped the tankheaters willremain
on fora further15minutes.Ifthe engine isrestarted within this15 minute periodthe tankheaters will
remain on, again forthe durationofthe journey.
When the engine isstopped thetankheaters will turnoff aftera 15 minute period.To turn themback
on you will need to turn the controlpanelon and then tankheaters on.
