1. 3 INSTALLATION AND USE
a) Recommendations
Note: before using for the first time, clean,
decontaminate and sterilise the accessories.
Before using the unit for the first time it is
recommended that you plug in the accessories
and operate the spray for several minutes in order
to rinse the equipment's internal water circuits.
Check that the equipment is correctly plugged in
and isolated; the mains plug with earthing pin
must be used.
The user must check the accessories and cords
regularly for faults in isolation and replace them
if necessary.
Do not use the equipment if it appears to be
faulty.
If the equipment develops a fault, it is
recommended that you contact the supplier of
your Cocoon Hygienist rather than using a non-
specialist repairer.
b) Connections
The electrical connexion must conform to current
norms and the air supply system must meet
quality criteria compatible with dental hygiene.
Rear panel of COCOON HYGIENIST :
Connect :
• the blue flexible tube (Fig. 2-1) to the
compressed air;
• the green flexible tube (Fig. 2-2) to the water
supply;
• the mains cord should be connected to its
socket (Fig. 2-6) and the plug should be earthed
(depending on country).
7
!

c) Commissioning and use
Connecting the Suprasson handpiece.
See the instructions supplied with the handpiece.
Mounting the tips
To obtain adequate vibration of a tip it must be
correctly tightened and not forced beyond its
stop. To avoid it becoming locked, the tip should
be removed after each use.
See the Tipbook for the power settings for
SATELEC tips.
Connecting the micro-motor
To connect the micro-motor to its cord connector,
simply screw it on.
The two red marks should line up.
Where a prophylactic contra-angle handpiece is
being used, close the spray tap on the front of the
unit to stop the irrigation flow.
The speed of the micro-meter is adjusted using
the power button (Fig 1-3) on the front, from 1 to
10.
There is a three-way switch on the face of the
unit (Fig. 1-1) to change the direction of the
motor:
In the up position: rotation is in a clockwise
direction.
In the down position: rotation is in an anti-
clockwise direction.
In the center position: the motor is stationary.
Note: Do not change the direction of rotation
with the footswitch depressed. This will cause
the motor to stop. You must wait 1 minute for
the unit to reset.
IMLN motor
Only an approved Satalec technician may adjust
the light intensity of the IMLN motor. The time lag
for the light is 3s after release of the footswitch.
Use of the 3-function syringe
The syringe may be used in conjunction with
other functions and it works independently of the
footswitch.
There are 3 possible combinations:
air alone
water alone
air+water (atomised spray)
d) WARNING
It is essential to turn off the water supply
before leaving the dental surgery.
8

II - MAINTENANCE AND
STERILISATION
The following instructions for maintenance
and/or sterilization must be carried out before
first using the handpiece or its accessories.
Avoid using cleaning and disinfecting products
containing flammable materials. If used, ensure
that the product has evaporated and that there is
nothing flammable on the equipment and its
accessories before using them.
2. 1 MAINTENANCE OF THE SUPRASSON
HANDPIECE
See the instructions supplied with the handpiece
2. 2 MAINTENANCE OF THE TIPS
a) When are they no longer fit for use?
The shape and mass of the tips are the
characteristics that determine the best output
from the ultrasound generator.
Vigilance on the part of the user in regard to
these two characteristics will enable the
optimum performance of the equipment to be
maintained.
In consequence, you are strongly advised not to
alter the tips either by filing them down or by
bending them.
In the same way, over a period of time and normal
use changes occur to a tip.
Be careful to always replace a tip that has
suffered deterioration through use or damage (by
being dropped, etc.).
b) Sterilization of tips
Tips should be cleaned before being sterilized
with a cotton bud soaked in alcohol, by wipes or
by immersion in an ultrasound tank.
Sterilization of tips can be carried out by any
conventional heat process.
Requirements and sterilization cycles depending
on the equipment being used
Equipment: autoclave
Sterilisation by moist heat - instrument not
protected:
134°C at 2 bars (200 KPa) for 18 minutes.
During sterilization metal items of different
types must not touch each other. Any contact
will lead to the formation of electrolytic
couples causing localized deterioration. In
order to avoid this happening, place the objects
to be sterilized in a cloth or sterilizing bag.
2. 3 MAINTENANCE OF THE MICRO-MOTOR
See the instructions supplied with the micro-
motor.
2. 4 MAINTENANCE OF THE CONTRA-ANGLE
Refer to the manufacturer's instructions.
After lubricating the contra-angle, do not
immediately reconnect it to the motor. Stand it
upright on a paper towel (head uppermost) for an
hour to allow surplus lubricant to drain.
9

2. 5 MAINTENANCE OF THE SYRINGE
The syringe should be cleaned and disinfected
(alcohol 96% v/v ethanol and/or disinfectant
wipes) without immersing it.
The Riskontrol must be discarded after each
patient.
2. 6 MAINTENANCE OF THE UNIT
The casing of the COCOON HYGIENIST, as well as the
handpiece cord and the micro-motor cord, should
be cleaned and disinfected (with alcohol and/or
dental disinfectant wipes) (Fig 4).
2. 7 REPLACING THE FUSES
- Remove the mains plug from its socket (Fig. 5-1).
- Insert the tip of a screwdriver into the slot
situated below the three male pins of the power
socket (Fig. 5-3).
- Take out and check the faulty fuse or fuses.
- Replace the fuses by fuses of the same value
and type (see technical data).
- Put the fuse holder back into its housing by
pushing it in (Fig. 5-2).
2. 8 DISPOSAL AND RECYCLING
Disposal of the equipment and its accessories
must be carried out by a collection centre for
electronic equipment or by sending them to
SATELEC's After Sales Service. In no case should
the equipment and its accessories be disposed of
by the user.
Tips which have reached the end of their useful
life must be put in safety containers designed for
this purpose.

Attention : avant la première mise en service,
nettoyer, décontaminer et stériliser les
accessoires.

(Fig. 1-1) pour inversion du sens de rotation
moteur :
3 fonctions possibles :
air uniquement ;
eau uniquement
air + eau (spray atomisé)
d) ATTENTION
Fermer impérativement l’arrivée d’eau en
quittant le cabinet dentaire.
