What is melamine?
Melamine is s clear resin used in the finishing process on particleboard, although
most people use melamine to describe the board.
Schulte uses particleboard with melamine applied. How does this process work?
The board starts out as particleboard, the same type of board used for desktops and
countertops. A vinyl sheet is stretched across the board and coated with the clear
melamine resin. Then, under heat and pressure, the melamine resin fuses the vinyl
to the board. As the board cures, the melamine creates a hard outer coating.
The result:
•The finish is scratch and stain resistant
•The finish is chemically bonded to the wood so that it is impossible to
separate them
Caution: There are many different qualities of particleboard, melamine and vinyl.
There also are different amounts of pressure and temperature that can be applied.
All of these variables control the quality of the board we use!
The top grade available is known as “furniture grade,” and SCHULTE only
uses furniture grade melamine!
To check for furniture grade material:
•Check the density of the board by examining the unfinished side. It should
have small particles and heavy density. It should not have large particles
and lots of air.
•Take a quarter and scratch the material. You should not be able to damage
it.
•Mark the board with a pencil and clean with a non-abrasive cleaner. It will
clean easily and completely.

Benefits of SCHULTE’s Classica
For Consumers:
•Classica is furniture
Classica replaces other furniture in the bedroom and has the look and
feel of fine furniture.
•Classica is functional
Classica combines the look and feel of fine furniture with the utility of
a strong, custom storage solution.
•Classica enhances the value of a home
Melamine systems are perceived as a significant upgrade from other
storage systems and add value to the home. For consumers dissatisfied
with non-quality wire solutions, melamine is the preferred upgrade.

SCHULTE Classica Installation Training Page 4
For Dealers:
•Production oriented
Classica is designed to install quickly and easily by one installer.
•Higher sales per project!
More sales and profits from fewer jobs.
•Matches a dealer’s other product offerings
If a dealer offers shower doors or other home products that are higher
than average quality, Classica can build its quality image.
•Opportunity
Many homes have melamine in the master closet only. By offering
Classica in addition to offering wire throughout the rest of the house,
you can provide a whole solution and not allow another dealer to have
contact with the builder/designer/owner.
•Multiple markets
Classica opens dealers to new construction and retrofit markets,
therefore driving growth and profit opportunities.
•Function
Classica offers solutions for garages, laundries, home offices,
entertainment centers and even some light commercial/institutional
storage. This opens profit opportunities.
Classica was developed by cabinetmakers who saw the need for strength,
versatility and design freedom. There is no system that can match Classica’s
overall performance.
