INTRODUCTION
These Sper Scientific Test Tube pH Pens (Models
SP-850062/ 63 / 65 / 66 / 67) are designed for easy
calibration and simple, accurate measurement.
The 12 cm long probe is capable of testing
samples even in narrow-mouthed containers.
The waterproof meter provides one-button,
automatic three-point calibration. Calibration is
also possible within± 0.5 pH units of 4, 7, and
10. Other features include a data-hold function,
automatic shutoff andlow-battery indicator.
Models SP-850063 / 65 / 66 / 67 also measure
temperature and provide automatic temperature
compensation.

STANDARD CALIBRATION
The meter should be calibrated regularly with
standard USA, NIST or DIN buffers to ensure
accuracy. If the meter is used frequently, daily
calibrationisrecommended.
Voltage Range for Each Calibration Point
pH 4 00 97 mV to 250 mV
pH 7 00 -60 mV to 60 mV
pH 10 00 -250 mV to -97 mV
Calibration Procedure
1 PressPOWER buttontoturnthemeter on
2. Pour the pH buffer into a clean container
and place the electrode into the buffer. We
recommendstartingwithamiddlerange
buffer such as pH 7. Make sure the electrode is
completelyimmersedinthebuffer.
3 PressCAL toenterCalibrationMode.
“CAL”displays for one second, followed by the
pH value. Models SP-850063 / 65 / 66 / 67 also
displaythetemperature.

CUSTOM CALIBRATION
During calibration mode, you can adjust the
buffer values to non-standard values. For
example,
4.00pHmaybeadjusted from
3.50 to 4.50.
7.00pHmaybeadjusted from
6.50 to 7.50.
10.00 pHmay beadjusted from
9.50 to 10.50.
1.Place the electrode inthe non-standard
buffer and press the CAL button. The meter
will display 4, 7, or 10 depending on which
is closest.
2.Pressandhold the Hold button.The
number on the screen will begin to change in a
positivedirection. 6

The electrode should besoakedfor atleast
30 minutes beforefirst use,or anytime ithas
dried out. Itisnormalfor whitecrystalstobe
presentonthe cap orelectrode assembly.
Always handle andstore theelectrode
with care.
•Do NOT touch, wipe or rub the tip of the
electrode.
•The pH tip must always be kept moist. Place
it in the protective storage bottle containing
KCIstoragesolutionwhenever itis notinuse.
•Rinsetheelectrodeindeionizedwater,a
rinse solution, ortap waterbeforeeach use.
•Rinse the electrode in deionized water
betweenmeasurements.
If the electrode has been exposed to a solvent
immisciblewithwater:
•Clean it with a solvent miscible with water, such
as ethanol oracetone.
•Rinsetheelectrodecarefully with water.
