1 UNPACKING
Before shipment, your new Seedburo Model 1200
®
D Digital Moisture
Tester has been thorough y tested and found free of defects. Upon
unpacking the unit, p ease inspect for any visua damage before
continuing. If any damage or missing part is noticed, p ease retain the
packing materia and contact the office from which the unit was
purchased.
The Model 1200D
®
is shipped, a ong with a universa power supp y
with the DUMP CELL and the GRAIN CELL disconnected. Unpack
both ce s and verify that the seria numbers are identica . The uti ization
of components with different seria numbers may resu t in inaccurate
resu ts, since a units are carefu y ca ibrated in the factory to obtain the
most accurate resu ts.

50°F and 95°F.

2 GENERA INFORMATION
The Seedburo Model 1200D
®
Digital Moisture Tester is an automatic,
e ectronic instrument designed for the determination of moisture in
cerea crops and in a wide variety of other products. An outside sca e is
required with accuracy of p us or minus .5 grams for weighing the
samp e.
The officia Grain Standards of the United States specifies that the
percentage of moisture sha be ascertained by:
(a) the use of the air-oven method, or
(b) any device and method which gives equiva ent resu ts.
The Seedburo Model 1200D
®
Digital Moisture Tester is outstanding in
providing this equiva ency quick y and accurate y. The instrument
determines the quantity of moisture in the grain samp e by eva uating
changes in its e ectrica characteristics due to the presence of moisture.
Using interna y stored ca ibration data, this change is automatica y
disp ayed as percent moisture.

Seedburo Equipment Company participates in the NTEP with the Model
1200A Automatic Moisture Tester in the on-going ca ibration program
that represents the NTEP Phase II.
The grains and commodities not isted above can sti be measured for
moisture content using the ca ibration data deve oped by Motomco Ins.,
and are at the discretion of the regu atory body having authority over the
device.

3 TECHNICA REFERENCE
3.1 MAIN COMPONENTS
The Seedburo Mode 1200D
®
consists of the fo owing components:
(1) DUMP CELL
Comp ete y redesigned from the previous version of the 1200D, it
contains temperature sensing probe in the Grain ce . The design of
the DUMP CELL insures that the samp e is a ways deposited into the
GRAIN CELL in the same uniform pattern.

(2) GRAIN CELL
It is ocated direct y under the DUMP CELL and it accommodates a
uniform samp e for maximum accuracy of resu ts. Patented center
post construction compensates for differences in bushe weight and
random dumping. The temperature sensor inside is accurate by 0.5
degrees Ce sius.
The GRAIN CELL is unique y identified by the seria number of the
unit, and is ca ibrated in the factory to work proper y on y with that
unit. The uti ization of a different GRAIN CELL wi cause
inaccurate resu ts.
(3) MAIN HOUSING
The e ectronic circuitry of the Seedburo Model 1200D Digital
Moisture Meter is tota y encased in a rigid die-cast a uminum
housing with components mountings carefu y designed to withstand
the rigors of norma fie d usage. The power-on switch can be found
in the back of the Model 1200D, whi e in the front pane the iquid
disp ay can be found.

3.2 POWER CONNECTION
The Seedburo Model 1200D Digital Moisture Meter is supp ied with
the universa 110/230 VAC power supp y (an optiona car battery cord is
a so avai ab e on request).
The power cord is connected in the AC power in et a so ocated in the
back pane , where the fuse ho der is a so present.
3.3 DISPLAY & KEY PAD
A information, from moisture percent to error messages, is c ear y
disp ayed on the 128x64 pixe s graphic LCD screen (Part a in figure).
Three MULTI-FUNCTION KEYS are ocated be ow the disp ay (Part
b in figure). Their function changes in the operation of the Model
1200D, and is continuous y disp ayed on the ast ine of the graphica
disp ay.
The MEASURE key (part c in figure) button is ocated beneath the
three mu ti-function keys.

3.4 SERIAL COMMUNICATION
An input/output Seria Port (Standard 9DB Pin RS 232) is ocated on the
back pane of the unit. It can be used to connect the Seedburo Model
1200D to a RS232 compatib e printer or to the seria port of a computer.

The 1200D can be configured for 300, 600, 1200, 2400 or 9600 baud
seria communications with 1 stop bit, 8 data bits and no parity.

If the print option on the unit is activated, the unit wi send through the
communication interface the fo owing information: unit seria number,
program and ca ibration version, user identification, date and time of the
measurement, samp e number and product name and percent moisture.
The samp e number is automatica y incremented for each measurement,
and is reset to zero at power-on.
A typica printed ticket is shown in figure.

4 OPERATION
4.1 SAMPLE COLLECTION
The moisture content in various portions of a ot or parce of grain to
be tested may vary considerab y.
In order for the samp e to be representative, grain shou d be removed
from different sections of the ot and thorough y mixed. For the most
accurate resu ts, a grain probe shou d be used and the sub-samp es
mixed and divided in a Boerner divider.
If such equipment is not avai ab e, an equiva ent procedure shou d be
devised and fo owed. The importance of accurate samp ing cannot
be over stressed. This is true no matter what method of moisture
determination is used. In addition, the size of the samp e upon which
the test is made shou d be as arge as possib e in order to average out
sma variations. This is accomp ished in the Seedburo Mode
1200
®
D Digita Moisture Meter by the use of 3½” test ce which, for
most types of commodities, can contain sizes up to 300 grams.
The proper samp e size is shown on the disp ay. An outside sca e
with the accuracy of .5 grams shou d be used.
4.2 POWER-UP
At Power-Up the Seedburo ogo is shown on the screen, as we as the
program version and ca ibration version.
The Empty Grain ce and the empty DUMP ce must be connected to
the unit so that the instrument can perform the initia SELFTEST and
verify that a components are proper y working.
Once the se f test is performed (no error messages) the instrument
wi change to the menu screen.

4.3 MENU SCREEN MODE
In the first ine of the Menu Screen the
current date and time are disp ayed. The
samp e type is disp ayed in the next ine,
fo owed by samp e size to be measured.
Note: When turned on, the moisture meter
Shows the ast grain type used.
If you press ABORT, a samp e
List screen wi appear:
Press NEXT to scro down the grain ist,
or press INDIV. to choose grain type.

SETUP SCREEN MODE (MENU)
In this screen you can change the fo owing:
- DATE; TIME; USER; PRINT OPTION; BAUD RATE;
- AVERAGE MODE (see page 15)
Pressing SAMPLE takes you back to the grain ist, and pressing
SETUP a ows you to change the va ues (date, time etc.)
Once in Setup, press the UP or DOWN key to change the va ues, or
NEXT to move from one variab e to another. Press MEASURE when
done. Pressing MEASURE wi save the changes and a ow you to
get out of the setup mode.

4.4 SAMPLE SCREEN MODE
In this Mode the user can choose the samp e type of the grain being
tested. Besides the samp e name, the moisture and temperature ranges
are disp ayed. The NEXT and
PREV keys are used to scro
forward or backward in the ist of
possib e samp e types. The ist of
the samp e types is given in the
Appendix. This mode is exited by
either pressing the MENU key
which brings the unit back to the
Menu mode, or by pressing the
MEASURE Key which wi start
the measurement routine.

SAMPLE
To speed up the operation of the Model 1200D between two successive
readings on the same samp e, the samp e removed from the GRAIN ce
can be direct y p aced into the DUMP ce and the measuring process
activated by pressing the MEASURE button, and dumping grain in Grain
ce . In this case, the correct size is a ready present in the ce . This
procedure can a so be used to perform statistica measurements on the
samp e.
To insure great accuracy of resu ts, the instrument performs
ca ibration, after pressing the MEASURE KEY, if any of the
fo owing conditions are satisfied:
1. Before the first measurement after power-on (initia ca .).
2. If the equipment temperature has changed more than 2 C since ast
ca ibration (Temp. diff.).
3. After an interrupted or erroneous (not comp ete) ca ibration (prev.
aborted).
4. If the new y se ected grain has a different interna ca ibration va ue
than the previous grain (diff. ca . va ue).
5. If the user quits from the measurement mode and enters into the
SETUP mode. This is the on y way to force a reca ibration at any
time (forced by SETUP).
In addition, the instrument performs a se f-ca ibration on every
measurement.

5 MAINTENANCE
The Seedburo Model 1200
®
D Digital Moisture Meter is a high
precision moisture meter, and care shou d be taken in maintaining the
instrument.
5.1 ROUTINE CARE AND MAINTENANCE
The presence of any foreign materia in or on the inside of the DUMP
and GRAIN ce s wi affect the accuracy of moisture determinations.
To c ean the inside of the ce s, swab out with a soft c oth dampened
with water. Do not use a coho or other so vent, which can affect the
p astic housing present in the ce s.
Verify that the butterf y mechanism in the DUMP ce is working
correct y, and that both wings are opening in the same manner.
Check if the contacts in the DUMP and GRAIN ce are good, verify
that the spring mechanism of the contact brackets is strained enough
to assure good e ectrica connection .
When cleaning the grain cell, please be extra careful not to
damage the temperature sensor.

5.2 FACTORY SERVICE
Before shipment, a Seedburo Mode 1200D Digita Moisture
Meters are ca ibrated against the factory Primary Standard. This
Standard is maintained in continuing agreement with the Master
Standard he d by the Grain Division of the United States
Department of Agricu ture.
To assure continuing accuracy, meters in commercia usage shou d
be returned to the factory or to any authorized dea er periodica y for
rep acement of any worn parts, since any rep acement requires
reca ibration against the primary Standard. This service shou d be
schedu ed during your “off season”, when the meter can be most
convenient y spared from your operation.
Frequency of service wi depend necessari y on the amount and type
of usage and it is recommended that any meter be returned for factory
service not ater than the end of its first three years of fie d usage.
To return a product for repair, first contact the AgPoint Precision Scales
Service Department at 1-866-668-4855 for a return authori ation number.
An RMA (Return Material Authori ation) is required for any returned product.
A delay in the repair can be expected if a product is returned without proper
documentation, including the RMA number.

6 TROUB ESHOOTING
6.1 ERROR MESSA ES
The Seedburo Model 1200D Digital Moisture Meter has error
codes incorporated into its program. These error messages are used
to warn the operator of ma functions of the equipment and/or
procedura errors committed by the operator. In the case of an error,
p ease note the error number and check the fo owing tab e of error
messages, which a so ists the possib e cause and a suggested
corrective action, for each error.
If no corrective action can be taken or fai s to a eviate the prob em,
p ease ca Seedburo Equipment Company with the error number, and
the sequence of operations performed to obtain such error.
The errors can be divided into two types:
1. Equipment errors and
2. Procedura errors.
In genera the equipment errors resu t in the in operationa status of
the unit, whi e procedura errors can be easi y fixed.
After an error has occurred, p ease verify your steps, and correct them
according y to the instructions set in this manua .
