CCM 164
Communication and Control Module
CCM 164 is a control and monitoring module with analog and digital inputs and relay outputs. All inputs and
outputs can be monitored and controlled via SMS (Short Message Service) or via a smartphone app. The
network is defined by the service provider’s SIM card.
oAn analog 4-20 mA input.
oSix digital (24 VDC) or analog (0-10 V) inputs.
oFour relay outputs - two power relays and two switching relays.

The MODE button beneath the cover can be used to unlock the module. Refer to “13.4.
Manually unlocking the configuration”.
SIM card1.3.
Newer versions of the CCM 164 hardware (V2) uses SIM card Nano 12.3 x 8.8 mm type and is
compatible with 1.8V and 3V SIM cards.
Older versions of the CCM 164 hardware (V1) uses SIM card Mini 85.6 x 53.98 mm type and is
compatible with 1.8V and 3V SIM cards.
Note : There must not be a PIN code on the SIM card.
Refer to “13.1. Removing a PIN code from a SIM card”.

Connection3.
+V
Supply output (20-24V) that can deliver up to 100mA. Can be used to power
external sensors and inputs.
0V
Chassis potential for all inputs and supply voltage +V.
AI1
Current input 4-20mA, reference in relation to 0V.
I1 –I6
These inputs are per default configured as digital inputs (12-24V), they can be
configured as analog inputs (0-10V). When the inputs are configured for
digital, the input resistance is approx. 3 kΩ and the analog approx. 20 kΩ.
L & N
Net supply nominal 230 VAC with external fuse
Q1
Relay contact set 1, terminal 11 –14 is closure (NO).
Q2
Relay contact set 2, terminal 21 –24 is closure (NO).

Relay contact set 3, terminal 31 –34 is closure (NO)

Getting started4.
1) Mount the module as described in “3. Connection”and in accordance with the specifications in
“19. Electrical specifications”.
2) Insert a SIM card into the holder beneath the cover. Note that the SIM card must not have a PIN
code. Refer to “13.1. Removing a PIN code from a SIM card”.
3) Turn on the power supply and wait 30 seconds until the internal backup battery has charged.
4) The module is ready when the STATUS lamp flashes slowly.
(If necessary, refer to “1.1. Control lamps”)
5) If an error occurred this is indicated with the STATUS LED and/or the MODEM STATUS LED. E.g. in
case of EEPROM error this is indicated with the STATUS LED. Please refer to 1.1 Control lamps for
an overview of error indications.
6) Send an SMS to the telephone number of the SIM card inserted in the module.
Use the text: #sys info
See “13.2. Retrieving the module’s status information”.
7) If the module answered locked in sys info, then the module must be unlocked before you can
continue with the configuration.
Refer to “13.4. Manually unlocking the configuration”.
8) The connection to the module has now been tested.
9) Configuration of the telephone book –Refer to 7. Telephone book and insert the telephone
number that will receive the messages or that will have access to the module.
10) Configuration of messages –Refer to 11. Rules.

There may be multiple controllers each with their own CCM 164 module. A module name can be added so
that it appears at the start of the SMS messages that are sent from the module.

Telephone book7.
CCM 164 has a telephone book that includes a list of up to eight telephone numbers [P1...P8]. These
telephone numbers can be configured to receive messages from the module. If the module is locked, then
only the numbers in the telephone book will be capable of communicating with the module. (Refer to
section “13.3. Locking the configuration”)
To obtain an overview of the telephone book’s contents, the content can be retrieved as described in “7.2.
Retrieving contents from the telephone book”.

CCM164 has one 4-20mA current input. The following command is used for setting up the current input for
various types of sensors:

Voltage input10.
CCM164 has 6 inputs, that each can be configured as either analog/voltage or digital inputs. All 6 inputs are

Rules11.
CCM 164 can be programmed with up to 16 rules. These rules can be set up to activate changes in the
output states or activate sending of SMS messages to one or more recipients in the telephone book.
Creating rules11.1.
n = [1..16] Rule position number,
(txt) Rule text in parenthesis. This is the text that will be sent in the SMS, if the rule
is set up for sending an SMS when activated. Must not be empty.

<condition> <condition A><operator><condition B>
Condition A and B can be a digital or voltage input { I1..6 }, or a current input {
AI1 }, or another already defined rule with a lower position number { A1..15 },
or a fixed value when comparing with a current or voltage input.
Digital inputs and rules can be treated as ’active low’ by prefixing with the ’!’
character, e.g. ’!I2’
Operator can be: { >, <, &, + }
a. > and < can only be used with current or voltage inputs, and always
in combination with a fixed value or another voltage input as
condition B.
b. ’&’ corresponds to logical AND, and ’+’ corresponds to logical OR .
Can only be used with digital inputs and other rules.
<action> The action that must be performed when the rule is activated. Can be selected
as either changing the state of one or more outputs, or as sending an SMS
message with the rule text to one or more recipients.
Change output state: <output> <output> <output> <output>
<Output> can be: {Qx, !Qx, =Qx, =!Qx, TQx, QxDt, !QxDt}
Qx -> set output high
!Qx -> set output low
=Qx -> output state follows condition state
=!Qx -> output state follows opposite of condition state
TQx -> toggle output once
QxDt -> set output high for ’t’ seconds
!QxDt -> set output low for ’t’ seconds
Multiple outputs can be combined in one action, e.g. Q1 !Q2 TQ3 =Q4
E.g. if output 1 must be activated for 10 seconds: Q1D10

<phonebook>: Defines the positions in the telephone book that a SMS
message must be sent to. E.g. P146 to send to the position 1, 4, and 6 in the
telephone book.

It is allowed to have a rule without an action, and it can for example be used
for logical combinations in the setup of other rules.
oExample 1: When input 4 is activated, the module must send a SMS message with the text
”Door is open”. The message must be sent to position 1 in the telephone book
([phone]), and the rule must be stored in rule position 1 A1.

Counters, times, number of SMS sent and more12.
The module has possibilities for reading various counters. This includes the number (quantity) of activations
of inputs and outputs, as well as how long they have been active. Various events are also logged, for
example the number of SMS messages sent and counts of the various error conditions.
The following counters are defined:
r = [1..6] Analog/Digital input 1..6
r = [81..84] Relay output 1..4
r = 200 Number of Net power fallouts.
r = 201 Number of (+V) 20-24 V supply output short circuits.
r = 202 Number of alarms that have been generated.
r = 203 Number of SMS transmission attempts (including failures).
r = 204 Numbers of SMS that were not sent due to errors.
r = 205 Number of communication errors with the MODEM.

Removing a PIN code from a SIM card13.1.
Mount the SIM card in a mobile phone. If the telephone shows that the card requires a SIM or PUK code
under startup, then use the telephone’s configuration menu to disable this code. Confirm that the code has
been disabled by powering the telephone off and on again. If the telephone does not request the code then
the SIM card is ready for use in the module.
Retrieving the module’s status information13.2.
CCM 164 has a status message that informs of the model name, version number, active functions, the time
the module has been connected to the power network, as well as whether the module’s configuration is
locked or open for change. Sys info can be retrieved from all telephone numbers, even if the module is
locked.

the module’s configuration and outputs.
