1 Pyrometer Specific Characteristics
Before adjusting a Metis MS / MI pyrometer, the upper and lower limits of the analog output should be set.
This is done via 2 potentiometers inside the device.
Then the calibration or, if necessary, adjustment via interface and adjustment software will be carried out.
2 Mechanical Preparations
The disassembly of the pyrometer must be done on a clean and dust-free workstation, so that the internal
optical components are not polluted.
ATTENTION: Work on electronic components is only allowed by qualified personnel. The device
may only be opened at a suitable workplace that complies with the applicable regulations for an
electrostatic workplace.
Caution: If the device is connected to the power supply when it is open, touching live parts
may cause damage!
Attention: On devices with video module the two
connection wires of the video module cable have to be
cut through. During assembly it must be ensured that
they are connected and soldered together again and
insulated with heat shrink tubing.
6. Carefully remove the front cover together
with the conjunct printed circuit boards.
7. Reconnect circuit
boards with the 2
connectors.

from the circuit board (if
necessary, use pointed
pliers).
8. Connect the
pyrometer

5. Loosen the 4 front cover screws
(hexagon, 7 mm)
1. Unscrew rear cover screws
(hexagon socket 2.5 mm)
2. Pull out the screws as far as
possible and then unscrew
them completely.
3. Carefully pull off rear cover

On the upper side of the device there are 2
holes with the adjustment potentiometers
underneath, once for the current at the
beginning of the temperature range (labeled 0
mA on the printed circuit board) and once for the
end of temperature range (labeled 20 mA on the
printed circuit board).
Note: The adjustment work on the potentiometers may only be carried out with a suitable
adjustment kit.
Supply the pyrometer with voltage.
Connect the analog output of the pyrometer to an
amperemeter.
Connect the pyrometer to a PC via its interface
and connect it to SensorTools software (for details,
see the pyrometer user manual).
Note: Use only a calibrated and approved high-accuracy amperemeter with a suitable
resolution.
3 Setting via SensorTools Software
The pyrometer must once "see" the beginning of the temperature range and once the end of the temperature
range, while adjusting the respective potentiometer. This can be done by simulating the current output via
software.

*)Defining the beginning of temperature range: The potentiometer must be set a few degrees above the
beginning of the temperature range in order to be able to set a current value of 0.2 mA. The necessary
temperature must be calculated, it depends on the pyrometer temperature range as well as a possibly
adjusted sub range.
Attention: Matching with the potentiometers affects each other, so these steps must be repeated until the
output is set for both currents.
4 Assembly
The assembly takes place in reverse order of disassembly:
Remove pyrometer connector and flat cable connector at rear cover
Push the optics unit with the printed circuit boards into the housing (the laser sticker points to the front) and
tighten the hexagon screws corresponding to the tightening torques for aluminum castings.
Connect the plug of the flat cable to the printed circuit board on the back cover (if necessary, solder the
cable from the video module (same color) and insulate with shrink tubing.
Carefully push the rear cover into the housing and screw it with the 4 hexagon socket screws.
Slider to the left to set the current for the beginning of temperature range
Analog output 0-20 mA: adjust until the amperemeter indicates 0.2 mA
Slider to the right to adjust the current for the end of the measuring range:
adjust until the amperemeter indicates 20 mA (+16 µA)
Analog output adjustment:
Move slider to the left (a few
degrees above the beginning
of the measuring range *)) or
right (or enter simulation

Call up simulation
Activate simulation
Set analog output to 0-20 mA
Call up device configuration
and start simulation:
