Your new high fidelity Amplifier is designed to deliver maximum enjoyment and years of trouble free
service. Please take a few moments to read this manual thoroughly. It will explain the features and opera-
tion of your Amplifier and help insure a trouble free installation.
Please unpack your Amplifier carefully. We recommend that you save the carton and packing material.
They will be helpful if you ever need to move your unit and may be required if you ever need to return it
for service. Your Amplifier i is designed to be placed in a horizontal position and it is important to allow
at least two inches of space behind your unit for adequate ventilation and cabling convenience. To avoid
early damage, never place the unit near radiators, i in front of heating vents, in direct sun light, or in exces-
sively humid or dusty location.

ensure

operation
the
three-pin
plug
supplied
must
be
inserted
only
into
a
standard
three-pin
pow-
er
point
which
is
effectively
earthed
through
the
normal
household
wiring.
Extension
cords
used
with
the
equipment
must
be
three-core
and
be
correctly
wired
to
provide
connection
to
earth.
Wrongly
wired
ex-
tension
cords
are
a
major
cause
of
fatalities.
The
fact
that
the
equipment
operates
satisfactorily
does
not
imply
that
the
power
point
is
earthed
and
that
the
installation
is
completely
safe.
For
your
safety,
if
in
any
doubt
about
the
effective
earthing
of
the
power
point,
consult
a
qualified

shipped
to
Europe
are
designed
for
operation

Rear Panel Connections
1 SYSTEM GROUND TERMINAL
To reduce hum to a minimum, this terminal is used to interconnect the chassis or ground lead of the Turnta-
ble to this Amplifier. Attach the ground lead from your Turntable to this terminal. To further minimize
hum, it may be necessary to connect the GROUND terminal with a wire to the nearest water pipe which
goes directly to true ground.
2. PHONO INPUT JACKS
Input for turntable with a magnetic or variable-reluctance cartridge having-47,000 ohms of load impedance.
‘Connect shielded cables from your phono arm to the LEFT and RIGHT input jacks. To avoid loss of high
frequency response, it is recommended that these cables not exceed 6 feet in length.
NOTE: Do not place your turntable on a speaker enclosure. This will avoid howling caused by transmitting
of the speaker vibration to the turntable.
3. TUNER INPUT JACKS
Input for connection of your matching Tuner. You will have leads from the Tuner to connect to this Ampli-
fier. One lead will carry the LEFT channel information and should be connected to the LEFT TUNER
input. The other lead should be connected to the RIGHT TUNER input.
4. AUX INPUT JACKS
This extra stereo input is provided for any high level sources you may wish to connect to your Amplifier. An
additional compact disc player (CD), Video Disc Player, video tape recorder (VTR), a turntable with
ceramic cartridge or similar high level source can be plugged into this auxiliary input and selected by the
FUNCTION selector switch.
. 5. CD INPUT JACKS
Connect the output cables of the compact disc player to these jacks marked CD, matching the L cy) and
R (right).
6. TAPE PLAY JACKS
The output signal coming from your Tape Deck during playbacks is fed into these jacks and selected as a
listening source by depressing the TAPE MONITOR switch on the front panel (MONITOR ON) regardless -
of the position of FUNCTION selector.
These PLAY jacks may be connected to the line output of the audio processor like an additional graphic.

7. TAPE REC JACKS
Signal from this jack is fed to the Rec of Tape Deck for recording purposes. Select the source to be recorded
with the FUNCTION selector on the front panel. Tone controls, loudness and volume settings have no
effect
on
the
signal
from
this
output
for
recording
except
the
FUNCTION
SELECTOR
switch.
For
monitoring this source while recording, depress the TAPE MONITOR switch and adjust VOLUME, etc. to.
_ the desired listening level.
These REC jacks may be used for the line input of the audio processor like an additional graphic equalizer.

8. DIGI LINK JACK
Connect this jack to the DIGI LINK jack of another component including logic control cassette deck. You
can control the other components of SHERWOOD in your system remotely by this DIGI-LINK system.

10. SPEAKER OUTPUT TERMINAL
Connect

speakers
to
the
correspond
speaker
terminals.
For
all
speaker
connections,
make
sure
that
the
phasing,
speaker
ohms
and
speaker
selector
position
are
correct.

11. AC INPUT CORD
Plug this cord into wall AC outlet.
12. AC SWITCHED OUTLET
This
switched
AC
outlet
can
be
used
to
control
the
power
of
your
audio
system.
Connect
the
AC
cord
of
your
matching
cassette
deck,
EQ
of
surround
processor
into
these
AC
outlets
and
connect
the
other
components
of
your
system
to
the
AC
outlets
on
the
cassette
deck,
EQ
or
surround
processor,
etc.

1. Strip off the vinyl covering and twist the tip of the wire core,insert the wire core into the terminal hole.

Pressing
this
switch
activates
the
speakers
connected
to
the
MAIN
speaker
terminal
on
the
rear
panel.

3. HEADPHONE JACK
Stereo
headphones
can
be
plugged
into
this
jack
for
private
listening
or
monitoring.
For
private
listening,
set
the
SPEAKER
switches
to
OFF.
Headphone
impedance
should
be
between
8
and
2,000
ohms.
Best
results
between
200
and
400
ohms.
4, INFRARED RECEIVER WINDOW
This
consists
of
an
infrared
filtering
window
and
an
infrared.
remote
sign
receiver.
This
amplifier
receives
the
pulse
code
modulated
(PCM)
infrared
signals
transmitted
by
the
commander
and
converts
it
into
the
electrical
signal
to
control
the
system.
The
infrared
filtering
window
effectively
filters
out
interfering
lights
to
prevent
the
amplifier
from
responding
to
the
unwanted
noise
and
light.
Do
not
obstruct
this
window
with
any
material.
5. BASS CONTROL
Modifies
the
low
frequency
sound
of
left
and
right
channels
as
much
as
+
10dB.
Set
this
control
as
a
suitable
position
for
your
taste
room
acoustics.
6. TREBLE CONTROL
Modifies
the
high
frequency
sound
of
left
and
right
channels
as
much
as
+
10dB.
Set
this
control
at
a
suitable
position
for
your
taste
room
acoustics.
7. BALANCE CONTROL
For
balancing
the
relative
sound
volume
of
the
left
and
right
channel
speakers.
clockwise
rotation
reduces
the
volume
from
the
left
speaker,
counterclockwise
rotation
reduces
the
volume
from
the
right
speaker.
8. DIRECT SWITCH
In
OFF
position
(pushed-out),
bass
and
treble
controls
function
normally
as
they
are
set.
In
ON
position
(pushed-in)
the
pre-amplified
signals
are
directly
connected
to
the
main
amplifier
without
passing
through
tone
control
circuit,
producing
flat
frequency
response,
minimizing
phase
shift
and
improving
sound
quality.

FUNCTION
INDICATOR
Displays
the
input
mode
such
as
PHONO,
CD,
TUNER,
AUX,
TAPE
MONITOR.
10. LOUDNESS
To
compensate
for
the
response
of
the
human
ear
at
low
listening
level
known
as
the
Fletcher-Munson
hear-
ing
curve,
the
low
frequency
is
automatically
boosted
when
the
switch
is
in
ON
position.
In
OFF
position
the frequency response is flat at all volume levels.
11. VOLUME CONTROL
Turning
this
control
clockwise
increases
the
volume
of
both
channels.
12. TAPE MONITOR SWITCH
This
switch
permits
playback
or
monitoring
of
Tape
Deck
connected
to
the
TAPE
IN
jacks
on
the
rear
panel.
Setting
this
switch
in
“MONITOR-ON”
will
select
your
Tape
Deck
ds
a
listening
source
regardless
of
the
position
of
FUNCTION
selector.
To
release
the
TAPE
MONITOR,
depress
this
button
again
then
the
“TAPE”
indicator
will
go
out.
In
recording
mode
with
your
compatible
Tape
Deck,
this
button
can
be
used
as
a
recording
quality
check.
That
is,
it
is
possible
to
hear
whether
the
recording
is
equivalent
to
the
source
being
recorded
by
depressing
this
switch
repeatedly.
In
all
other
cases,
leave
this
switch
in
MONITOR-OFF
position.
If
you
connect
an
equalizer
to
the
TAPE
IN/OUT
jacks
on
the
rear
panel
of
this
amplifier,
it
will
function
~
as
an
equalizer
ON
or
defeat
switch.
In
this
case,
leave
this
switch
in
MONITOR-ON
state
and
use
the
EQ
DEFEAT
and
TAPE
MONITOR
switches
on
the
equalizer.

Switch

selecting
desired
program

DIGHLINK III System Remote Control Operation
You can remotely control not only AX-3030R but also Sherwood compatible components. The remote com-
mander mode No. RM-30 supplied with this amplifier is a common key operation type, for example there is
one play button on the commander and it can be used for playing cassette deck, CD player and CD changer
etc., SO we recommend you to read this section thoroughly. It will explain many features. —

The

buttons

and
MUTE.
When
the
MUTE
button
is
pressed,
Mute
indicator
(3k
MUTE)
of
the
front
panel
will
flicker
and
the
sound
is
not
coming.
This
is
very
useful
when
you
make
or
receive
phone
call
while
operating
the
amplifier
at
high
listening
level,
or
when
you
adjust
extremely
low
volume
level
at
midnight.
To
release
muting,
press
the
MUTE
button
again.
9. DRY BATTERY CASE
This
battery
case
is
provided
as
the
power
source
for
the
commander.
To
remove
the
cover,
press
it
down
with
the
thumb
and
pull
it
toward
the
back
side.
Two
UM-4,
size
“AAA”
or
R03
1.5V
dry
batteries
are
used.
When
loading
the
batteries,
make
sure
that
the
polarity
is
correct.
Remove
the
batteries
from
the
case
if
the
remote
commander
will
not
be
in
use‘for
an
extended
period
of
time.
