IMPORTANT WARRANTY INFORMATION.

If you remove the HDMI screw posts, you must use the provided HDMI Locking Post

replacement screws to keep the internal HDMI jack secure. Removing the HDMI screws

without installing the HDMI Locking Post replacement screws will void your warranty.

SAFETY INFORMATION

1. To ensure the best results from this product, please read this manual and all other documentation before operating your equipment.

Retain all documentation for future reference.

2. Follow all instructions printed on unit chassis for proper operation.

3. To reduce the risk of re, do not spill water or other liquids into or on the unit, or operate the unit while standing in liquid.

4. Make sure power outlets conform to the power requirements listed on the back of the unit. Keep unit protected from rain, water and

excessive moisture.

5. Do not attempt to clean the unit with chemical solvents or aerosol cleaners, as this may damage the unit. Dust with a clean dry cloth.

6. Do not use the unit if the electrical power cord is frayed or broken. The power supply cords should be routed so that they are not

likely to be walked on or pinched by items placed upon or against them, paying particular attention to cords and plugs, convenience

receptacles, and the point where they exit from the appliance.

7. Do not force switched or external connections in any way. They should all connect easily, without needing to be forced.

8. Always operate the unit with the AC ground wire connected to the electrical system ground. Precautions should be taken so that the

means of grounding of a piece of equipment is not defeated.

9. AC voltage must be correct and the same as that printed on the rear of the unit. Damage caused by connection to improper AC

voltage is not covered by any warranty.

10. Turn power off and disconnect unit from AC current before making connections.

11. Never hold a power switch in the “ON” position.

12. This unit should be installed in a cool dry place, away from sources of excessive heat, vibration, dust, moisture and cold. Do not use

the unit near stoves, heat registers, radiators, or other heat producing devices.

13. Do not block fan intake or exhaust ports. Do not operate equipment on a surface or in an environment which may impede the normal

ow of air around the unit, such as a bed, rug, carpet, or completely enclosed rack. If the unit is used in an extremely dusty or smoky

environment, the unit should be periodically “blown free” of foreign dust and matter.

14. To reduce the risk of electric shock, do not remove the cover. There are no user serviceable parts inside. Refer all servicing to

qualied service personnel. There are no user serviceable parts inside.

15. When moving the unit, disconnect input ports rst, then remove the power cable; nally, disconnect the interconnecting cables to

other devices.

16. Do not drive the inputs with a signal level greater than that required to drive equipment to full output.

17. The equipment power cord should be unplugged from the outlet when left unused for a long period of time.

18. Save the carton and packing material even if the equipment has arrived in good condition. Should you ever need to ship the unit,

use only the original factory packing.

19. Service Information Equipment should be serviced by qualied service personnel when:

A. The power supply cord or the plug has been damaged.

B. Objects have fallen, or liquid has been spilled into the equipment.

C. The equipment has been exposed to rain.

D. The equipment does not appear to operate normally, or exhibits a marked change in performance.

INTRODUCTION

The SB-3879 is a professional high performance video graphics

scaler supporting (7) different Input and Output signal types;

Analog Video, S-Video, Component Video, VGA, DVI, HDMI,

and display port signals. The Inputs are comprised of Composite

Video & Audio, S-Video & Audio, Component Video & Audio, VGA

& Audio, DVI & Audio, Display Port and HDMI. The available

Output ports are HDMI, VGA, S/PDIF and Stereo Audio.

Supports S-Video with 3D comb lter, HDMI 3D 1.4a formats,

HDCP 2.0 Compliant, HDCP supports DVI/HDMI/Display Ports.

(The VGA port is not HDCP compliant.) Video input signals

Auto-Detects the video standard format from NTSC/PAL/SECAM

system. Supports high denition RGB digital HD signal. The

scaler also supports full HDTV resolution data rates enabling

480i/p, 576i/p, 720p or 1080i/p formats, higher DVI resolution

(1920x1200), HDMI 1080p-60, DP (2550x1600) is ideally suited

for high denition 3D TVs, HDTVs, Plasma displays or monitor

applications. Control is provided via front panel buttons with LED

readout, RS-232, Ethernet, or IR remote control (included). A RS-

232 interface is provided for interfacing with third party controller.

A windows-based control software package is included to provide

completely control of the SB-3879 from a PC.

SPECIFICATIONS

FRONT PANEL

1. POWER ON SWITCH: The power switch turns the unit on and off. The LED will illuminate blue to indicate the switcher is ON and receiving

power. The scaler will remember the last setting during a power cycle. When turned on again, it will automatically apply the setting last

used.

2. MENU: Press menu to open the On-Screen Display interface. Press again to exit menu. To Lock/Unlock the front panel, press and hold

the MENU button for 5 seconds to toggle modes.

3. ENTER: Press enter to conrm your entries.

4. ARROW KEYS: Use the arrow keys to move between the On-Screen Display options. Press the up key to enter the upper layer and the

down key to enter the next layer. Press the left and right keys to select options in the same layer or change the value of a parameter.

5. IR SENSOR: The IR sensor receives IR commands from the supplied remote controller or a third party IR remitter.

6. OUTPUT SELECT BUTTONS: Select the desired resolution supported by your display devices. Press OTHERS for resolutions other than

XGA, WXGA, 720p, 1080p. The button will illuminate blue to indicate it is selected. Advanced resolution adjustment can be found in the

OSD options.

7. INPUT SELECT BUTTONS: Select from one of the (7) video signal buttons you intend to be scaled. The button will illuminate blue to indicate

it is selected.

BACK PANEL

1. DC POWER INLET: The scaler suits a DC power plug-pack input

connector. Please ensure the plug-pack used is of an approved

type and of correct current, voltage output, and connector

polarity. DV 12 Volt, power supply 3A.

2. ETHERNET CONNECTION: Connects a CAT5 cable to the Ethernet

port for control of the scaler from a computer.

3. RS-232 CONNECTION: Connects a serial cable to the RS-232

port for control at the scaler from a computer.

4. LINK: Connected the link port for rmware updates. Used for

testing purposes.

5.IREXTENDERCONTROL: Supports remote control via IR extender.

Extends a maximum distance of up to 1000 feet (300M).

6. YPBPR + AR / AL AUDIO INPUT: Connects a signal of component

video directly to the female RCA connector, which supports

component video (YPBPR) to HDTV display devices. Connects

the output port of your source audio device to the AR/AL inputs.

7. VGA + VGA AUDIO INPUT: Connects a signal of VGA (RGBHV)

to the HD-15F female connector. Connects the output port of

your source audio device to the audio input.

8. DVI + DVI AUDIO INPUT: Connects a signal of DVI to the digital

video connector. Connects the output port of your source audio

device to the audio input.

9. HDMI INPUT: Connects (8) HDMI digital video/audio signal

links direct to the HDMI connector, which supports HDMI digital

video/audio and DVI digital video sources. If you remove the

HDMI screw posts, you must use the provided HDMI Locking

Post replacement screws to keep the internal HDMI jack

secure. Removing the HDMI screws without installing the HDMI

Locking Post replacement screws will void your warranty.

10. DISPLAY PORT INPUT: Connects a signal from the display port

to the DP port, which supports digital video and audio.

11. VIDEO + AR / AL AUDIO INPUT: Connects a composite video

signal to the RCA connector. Connects the output port of your

source audio device to the AR/AL inputs.

12. S-VIDEO + AR / AL AUDIO INPUT: Connects a S-Video signal

input to the connector. Connects the output port of your source

audio device to the AR/AL inputs.

13. SPDIF: Connects for digital audio output.

14. VGA OUTPUT: Connects a VGA (RGBHV) signal source to

the VGA connector.

15. HDMI OUTPUT: Connects a HDMI digital video/audio signal

link direct to the female HDMI connector, which supports HDMI

digital video/audio and DVI digital video sources.

REMOTE CONTROL

Before making any connections to the SB-3879. Observe the following:

• Ensure the main voltage supply matches the label on the supplied plug-pack (+/-10%)

• Ensure that the power switch is OFF

• Ensure that all system grounds (earth) are connected to a common point.

• Avoid powering equipment within a system from multiple power sources that may be separated by large distances

• Connect all audio video sources and destination equipment

• Power up all source and destination audio-visual sources

• For each destination output select the appropriate input source by using the front panel input select buttons. The supplied IR remote

control. Or through the RS-232 serial communications port.

• Upon power up the switcher will return to its last used setting before being powered down.

4. SOURCE (HDMI, VGA, DVI, DP, YPBPR, VIDEO, S-VIDEO): Selects your input signal type

5. ENTER: Conrms your selection/enter the next layer of OSD options

6. ARROW KEYS: move up, down, left or right between the OSD options. Use left and

right keys to adjust the value of a parameter. Use down key to enter the next layer

of options and up key to move back

7. RETURN: Return to the upper layer of OSD options

8. MENU: Opens up the OSD menu

9. INFO: Checks the connection status of input/output/RS-232/Ethernet ports

10. EXIT: Leaves the OSD menu

11. OUTPUT (XGA, WXGA, 720P, 1080P, OTHERS): Selects the desired output resolution

supported by your display device

12. OSD TIME OUT: Adjusts the OSD menu display time

13. VIDEO WALL: Opens the video wall options

Note: The External IR jack has voltage on the “Ring” portion of a 3-conductor plug. You must use a 3-conductor plug (aka: stereo plug).

Using a 2-conductor plug will short out the power supply. Always make connections with the switcher power off.
