SIIG’s goal is to provide its customers with reliable, high quality

Before installing the board, please review this chapter for unpack-
ing instructions and an overview of the key features. Then refer to
later chapters for installation instructions.
1-1 Unpacking the USB 2.0+1394+UltraATA RAID
Before installing the board, verify that the following items are in-
cluded in the packaging carton:
•One USB 2.0+1394+UltraATA RAID controller
•Two driver diskettes
•Two 40-pin/80-wire Ultra ATA cables
•This comprehensive user’s manual
Please consult your dealer if any item is damaged or missing.
1-1.1 Static Electricity Precaution
One of the routine precautions you must be aware of when work-
ing with computer components is the problem of static electricity
discharge. Leave the product in its static-resistant bag until you
are ready to install it.
Caution: Static electricity discharge may permanently dam-
age your system. In order to avoid possible static electricity
discharge during installation procedures, please follow the
guidelines below:
• Discharge any static electricity build up in your body by
touching a large grounded metal surface or the
computer’s case (if plugged in), for a few seconds.
• Avoid any contact with internal parts and handle card
only by its edges.

The USB 2.0+1394+UltraATA RAID is a three-in-one board design
to add USB 2.0 (480 Mbps), IEEE 1394a (FireWire) (400 Mbps), and
UltraATA/100 RAID (100 Mbps) interfaces into your computer at
once.

• Fully compliant with PCI Plug-n-Play 2.2
USB 2.0 Interface:
• Compliant with USB specification rev. 2.0
• Supports high-speed (480 Mbps), full-speed (12 Mbps) and
low-speed (1.5 Mbps) data transfer modes for simultaneous
operation of multiple USB 2.0/1.1 devices
• Hot-swapping feature allows you to connect/disconnect
devices without first turning your system off
• Works with various types of USB devices including hubs, PC
video cameras, printers, scanners, CD-R/Ws, DVD-RAMs,
CF/SM/SD/MMC/Memory Stick memory card readers,
removable drives, digital cameras, and more

Note: USB 1.1 devices are limited to USB 1.1 speeds even when
they are connected to USB 2.0 host adapter or USB 2.0 hubs.
1394a (FireWire) Interface:
• IEEE 1394-1995, P1394a (rev. 1.1) and OHCI Interface specifi-
cation 1.0 compliant
• Supports serial bus data transfer rates of 100, 200 and 400
Mbps
• Hot-swapping feature allows you to connect/disconnect
devices without first turning your system off
• Works with various types of 1394 devices including DV
camcorders/cameras, hard disk drives, CD-RWs, DVD-
RAMs, removable drives, scanners, and other audio/video
devices
UltraATA 100 RAID Interface:
• Supports up to 100 MB/s data transfer rate with Ultra ATA/
100 hard disk drives
• Provides backward compatible with ATA 66/33 and EIDE/
Fast ATA-2 hard disk drives
• Supports RAID 0, RAID 1 and RAID 0+1 and allows RAID
set to act as bootable drive
• Built-in 128-byte FIFO per ATA channel for faster data
transfer
• Allows HDDs with different sizes to be configured in a RAID
set
• Functions as regular controller when RIAD function is not
configured
• System GUI monitoring utility to manage RAID arrays
• Supports Drive Mode Ultra DMA 0-5; Multiword DMA 0-2;
and PIO 0-4.
• Supports up to four devices including hard disk drives,
