3. Aluminium profile system - The Basics
If you are new to working with aluminium profiles, here a couple of tips to start off
with. The logic of aluminium profiles revolves around the slots the profiles have
and in a lesser degree the cores which can be provided with a thread. The slots
(grooves) facilitate nuts to be slotted into them. They have threaded holes in them,
which come in different sizes. For our profile system, M8 (8mm thread) is used
to build the general structure. Hardware or, for example, corner brackets can be
fixated, and later loosened up to change the position of them. This versatility makes
aluminium profiles very fit to build a sim-racing chassis.
Corner bracket assembly:
• T-slot nut can be inserted from outside, or pushed in from above the slot.
• T-slot nuts have a spring ball, and are guided, which allows them to stay in their
place when pushed into a vertical profile.
• The corner brackets have guided lips to lock them into the slot. They can be
broken off with the tip of a screwdriver where needed (figure 1).
