DIGITAL RADIO
CONTROLLED WATCH
INTRODUCTION
Congratulationsonyourpurchaseofthe
SimaRCW. Beforeyoubegin using the
RCW,pleaseread this manualcarefullyand
keepthismanualforfurtherinformation.
ABOUT NIST
TheRCW utilizes a highly sensitive radio
receiverto automatically setthe time and
date. TheNationalInstituteofStandards
andTechnology(NIST)measureseach
secondoftimeas9,192,631,770vibrations
ofa Cesium133 atomin avacuum. The
measurementofthe Cesium 133atomis
accurateto one second everyone million
years. Thetime isthen transmitted from
FortCollins, CO to the rest of theUnited
States (US). NIST is the official time used
bythe US; it governs shipmovements,
radiostations, and spaceflights. The RCW
alsoautomaticallyadjusts for daylight
saving time, leap years, and leap
seconds. For more details about

AUTOMATIC TIME SETTING
TheRCW receivesthe NIST signal
automaticallyat 3:00AM everynight. Once
theNIST signal is received the watch will
displaythe officialU.S. time. The time and
datearesetautomatically for Eastern
StandardTime,which will needto be
adjustedif you arelocated in a differenttime
zone. Ifthe signal cannotbereceived, the
RCWalso can be set manually.
BEFORE USING THE RCW
Thetime zone thatyou arelocated in must
beselected. Setting the correcttime zone
willallow the watch to set itself to the
correcttime.
Thiswatch should beset manuallyfor the
firsttime. After that, the watch will
automaticallyadjustitselfto maintain
accuratetime.
SETTING THE TIME ZONE
TheRCW willautomatically set the time and
datewhen a NIST signal isreceived
successfully. However, you will still have to
setthe correct timezone.
(Note: The RCWwill not automatically
adjustto anew time zone if you are
traveling. Youmustchange the timezone
settingtocontinue to keeptheexact time.)
TIME ZONE SETTING
1. Pressthe MODE buttonthree times and
thetime zone willbe displayed.
2. Pressand hold the SET button forthree
secondsor until theoffsethours digits
begintoflash.
3. Pressthe RECEIVE buttonto increase or
presstheLIGHT button todecreasethe
hour-offset.
4. Forstandard time: (Eastern = -5)(Central
= -6) (Mountain = -7) (Pacific = -8)
5. Pressthe SET buttononce to return to
normaloperation.
MANUAL TIMEAND DATE SETTING
1. Press and hold the SET button for
three seconds and “12” or” 24” will blink
on the LCD.
Pressthe RECEIVE orLIGHT button to
changethe setting from12 to 24or 24 to
12.
2. Press the SET button to advance to
theyearsetting.
Pressthe RECEIVE buttontoincrease
theyearor LIGHT buttondecreasethe
desiredyear.
3. Press the SET button to advance to
the month setting.
Pressthe RECEIVE buttontoincrease
themonthorLIGHT button decrease the
desiredmonth.
4. Press the SET button to advance to
the day of the month.
Pressthe RECEIVE buttontoincrease
thedayor LIGHT button todecreasethe
dayofthemonth.
5. Press the SET button to advance to
the day of week.
Pressthe RECEIVE buttontoincrease
WATCH DISPLAYICONS & BUTTONS
orthe LIGHT button to decreasetheday
oftheweek.
6. Press the SET button to advance to
hours.
Pressthe RECEIVE buttontoincrease
thehouror the LIGHT buttonto
decreasethehour.
7. Press the SET button to advance to
minutes.
Pressthe RECEIVE buttontoincrease
theminuteor the LIGHT buttonto
decreasetheminute.
8. Press the SET button to advance to
seconds.
Pressthe RECEIVE button orthe
LIGHT buttontoreset the secondsto
“00”.
9. Press the SET button one more time
to return to normal operation.
BUTTONSANDFUNCTIONS
RECEIVEBUTTON
PressingandholdingtheRECEIVEbutton
forfive seconds activatesthe manual signal
receiver.
Pressingthe RECEIVE button whilein
manualsetup will increasethe digits
displayedontheLCD.
Pressandhold the RECEIVE button to
increasethenumbers at a fasterrate.
LIGHT
PressingtheLIGHT button activatesthe
RCWbacklight.
Pressingthe LIGHT button whileinmanual
setupdecreasesthedigits displayed on the
LCD.
Pressand hold the LIGHT buttonto
decreasethenumbersat a faster rate.

SETTINGALARM 1 & ALARM 2
TheRCW has two alarms thatcan be
activated,AL1andAL2. Pressing any
buttonwillturn the alarmsoundoff once
activated.If no buttonis pushed, it will
automaticallyshutoffaftertwominutes.
1) Press the MODE button once for
AL1, twice for AL2. The icon will
blink on the right side of the LCD.
2) Press and hold the SET button for
threeseconds.The hour section of
theclock will begin blinking.
3) Press the RECEIVE button to
increase the hour or the LIGHT
button to decrease the hour.
4) Press the SET button to move to the
minutesection of the clock.
5) Press the RECEIVE button to
increase the minute or the LIGHT
button to decrease the minute.
6) Press the SET button to advance to
the ON / OFF setting.
7) Press the RECEIVE button to set the
alarm to ON or OFF.
The icon for ON/OFF is located above
the second portion of the clock (on=ON,
oF=OFF).
8) The RCW will return to normal
operationinapproximately15seconds.

Pressingandholding the SET buttonfor
threesecondsentersthemanualsetup
mode. Differentsettingscanbe accessed
bypressingthe SET buttonrepeatedly.
MODE
Pressthe MODE button toenter the
alarm-settingmenu.
EL(RCW-101only)
Pressingthe EL button willactivate the
RCWbacklight.

SIGNAL SEARCH
AUTOMATICSEARCH
TheRCW is designed to receive the NIST
signalautomaticallyeverynight at 3:00AM.
TheRCW willsynchronize the time and
datewiththe NIST broadcastsignalfrom
Fort Collins, CO. Note: You must set the
watch manually the first time for it to
auto synch during the night.
RECEPTIONSTATUS
Ifthe NIST broadcast is successfully
received,thetower icon inthe upper left
cornerof the LCDwill remain“on” all day.
TheRCW willsearch for the signal again at
3:00AM.
Ifthe reception was notsuccessful, the
towericon will be“off”whichmeans that the
signalwas not received in thepast 24
hours. TheRCW willautomatically search
at3:00AMeveryday to updateits time.
(Note:If the towericon is not“on” in the
upperleftcorner,followtheinstructionsin
theMANUAL SIGNAL SEARCH section).
MANUALSIGNALSEARCH
Whenthe tower iconis not presentin the
upperlefthand corner oftheLCD the NIST
signalhas not been receivedin the
previous24 hours. The RCW searches for
theNIST transmission at3:00AM every
night;which isthe best time to receive the
signal. Inthe event thatyour RCWdoes
nothavethe tower icon displayedthe
RECEIVEbuttoncanbepressed to attempt
toreceive the signal.
1. Pressand hold the RECEIVE button for
tensecondsto activate thesignal
receiver. The tower icon will begin to
flashfor up totenminutes.
2. Donot press anybuttons during the
manualsignalsearch time.
SIGNALSTRENGTH
Whilethe RCWis searchingfor theNIST
signalthe towerwill have rings that blink
arounditto display thestrengthof the
signalbeing received. If thetower only
displaysonering around the towericon,the
receptionis poor inthe area thatyouare
located. Movetoa different area and
attempttoreceivethesignal again.
Ifthe RCWis receivinga strongsignal,
threeringswill be displayedaroundthe
towericon. However,evenwhenastrong
signalis received the RCW may not
automaticallyadjust the timedueto RF
interference.
TIMECHANGEADJUSTMENT
Ifthe RCWreceives theNIST signalat
3:00AMduringthe fall or springtime
change,it will automaticallyadjust to the
correctDaylight Saving Time.
DuringDaylight Savings time,eachtime the
signalis received,the “sun”icon willalso
bedisplayedwiththetower.
(Note:If you livein anarea that doesnot
observethedaylightsavingstime change,
youwill have tomanually change the time
zonesettingahead one timezone as this
featurecannotbeturnedoff).
TROUBLESHOOTING
At times the RCW may be placed in a
locationwheretheNISTsignalreception
becomesdifficultduetointerference.
Interferencecanbeduetoelectrical
appliancessuchas televisions,
refrigerators,computers,fluorescentlamps,
ornatural events suchas thunderstorms. It
isimportant that youdo not leaveyour
watchon a metallic surface andkeep it
awayfromany sources of electromagnetic
interference.
Ifyou continue tohaveunsuccessful NIST
signalreception, you may wantto place
yourwatch near awindow where it shows a
strongreception signal. The NISTsignal
willusually be receivedat approximately
3:00AMwhenthe signal reception isthe
strongest.
CARE OF YOUR WATCH
- Neverattempt to open the caseor
removetheback-cover,asthe watch
containsnocomponentsthatareuser
serviceable.
- Never swim with the RCW or submerge it
underwater. Shouldwateror
condensationappearinthewatch,take
theRCW toa jewelerto check
immediatelyaswater can corrode
electronicpartsinsidethe watch.
- Avoidexposing the watchto longperiods
ofextremetemperatures. Normal
operationbetween oftheRCWis0° C-
50° C/32° F-122°F.
LIMITED WARRANTY
Sima Products Corp. (“Sima”) warrants that if the accompanying
product proves to be defective to the original purchaser in material or
workmanship within 90 days from the original retail purchase, Sima
will, at Sima’s option, either repair or replace same without charge (but
no cash refund will be made).
What you must do to enforce Warranty:
You must deliver, mail or ship the product, together with both the
original bill of sale and this limited Warranty statement as proof of

SERVICE
TheRCW isonly to be opened by an
experiencedjeweler. Theusershould
neveropentheRCW.
BATTERYREPLACEMENT
TheRCWrequires CR2025 battery. Your
RCWis a delicateinstrument and requires
specialtoolsforchangingthe battery;
therefore,Simastronglyrecommendsthat
qualifiedpersonnelonlychangethebattery.
Automaticreception of theNIST signal will
activateoncethebattery is replaced.
